I am a biologist and am self-employed as an environmental consultant, specializing in writing Environmental Assessments. I have a sailboat and a 12' skiff to explore the bay with my family, and we enjoy clamming, crabbing, and fishing. I also enjoy snow skiing (love Mt. Bachelor!), bicycling, hiking, and traveling.
It is my dream to return to the cruising the world's oceans once more.
I graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1984, focusing on marine and environmental sciences. Fresh out of college, I went directly into the Peace Corps and taught middle school science in Swaziland, Africa. This led to teaching high school biology and marine science after the Peace Corps at a private college preparatory school in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Returning to my field in the early 1990s, I worked a number of contract jobs as a biologist, including five contracts as a fisheries observer on commercial fishing boats in Alaska, surveying for spotted owls in Southwest Washington for one breeding season, working for two different tribes (Makah and Coquille), and working for 15 years as an environmental specialist at numerous locations throughout the country for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
On the side, I have had rentals for the past 20 years and even ran a small side Bed and Breakfast for several years out of our house in Girdwood, Alaska from . In Coos Bay, I have converted several of my rentals to furnished vacation rentals. I'm happy to share local knowledge on where and how to dig your own clams or catch your own crabs. I enjoy meeting travelers passing through the area and strive to make their time in the Coos Bay area extra special.
