Barbara’s lovely apartment in this quaint old building is a very comfortable and spacious place to stay. Barbara kindly left a few goodies in the fridge for us (which made my daughter very happy in particular!) and some cold water (which was much appreciated on a hot evening). There is a main bedroom and a sofa bed both of which are comfortable. There is a good strong shower. The kitchen is large and well equipped. Beyond the kitchen in a lovely sun room where we ate breakfast. Thank you Barbara for a very pleasant and hassle-free stay.

Barbara was a great host. Good communication and easy check in/out. The fresh fruit and eggs were a real treat. The house is older and so are the furnishings but that is part of its charm. Wifi worked great. Also surprisingly quiet given all the units were occupied.

This was in very quiet neighborhood. It is an older home/apartment building, but everything was in working order. Barbara was easy to communicate with and left a plate of goodies upon our arrival.

Overall pretty cute , its not as nice as the pics suggest. Super comfortable bed tho which was why we booked it! We arrived and found it to be really hot with no A/C and only one window to open in the whole place . Most of the time that wouldn't be an issue I suppose . Super happy it had a washer dryer .

Réponse de Barbara :
The photos are up-to-date, so I'm not sure what the guest is talking about. But her statement that only one window opens in the entire place is false. The dining room has a large window that is open with a screen. The bedroom has a window on each of the two walls with windows that open. The living room has a tall window that opens. I also provide a stand-up rotating fan to help cool things down. To find a home in Coos Bay with air conditioning is unusual, as it just doesn't get that hot here. I have room darkening curtains in the bedroom that I leave down (closed) in the summer to help keep the room cool. I'm sad that if she had a problem with the windows that she didn't tell me. I just checked the windows mentioned before, and they still open just fine.

I am a biologist and am self-employed as an environmental consultant, specializing in writing Environmental Assessments. I have a sailboat and a 12' skiff to explore the bay with my family, and we enjoy clamming, crabbing, and fishing. I also enjoy snow skiing (love Mt. Bachelor!), bicycling, hiking, and traveling.

It is my dream to return to the cruising the world's oceans once more.

I graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1984, focusing on marine and environmental sciences. Fresh out of college, I went directly into the Peace Corps and taught middle school science in Swaziland, Africa. This led to teaching high school biology and marine science after the Peace Corps at a private college preparatory school in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Returning to my field in the early 1990s, I worked a number of contract jobs as a biologist, including five contracts as a fisheries observer on commercial fishing boats in Alaska, surveying for spotted owls in Southwest Washington for one breeding season, working for two different tribes (Makah and Coquille), and working for 15 years as an environmental specialist at numerous locations throughout the country for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

On the side, I have had rentals for the past 20 years and even ran a small side Bed and Breakfast for several years out of our house in Girdwood, Alaska from . In Coos Bay, I have converted several of my rentals to furnished vacation rentals. I'm happy to share local knowledge on where and how to dig your own clams or catch your own crabs. I enjoy meeting travelers passing through the area and strive to make their time in the Coos Bay area extra special.
