Description

Visit us at Mt Barney. Enjoy your own room in a unique 2 bedroom house tucked away in the bush at the base of Mount Gillies, overlooking farmland. It's a bush house with composting toilet but all other mod cons. Art studio on site.

We will be onsite to welcome you and make sure you can get things working. But we stay in the art studio next door so you have your own private space.

Third bedroom is a small teardrop caravan.

This is a unique bush cottage built from converted shipping containers sitting on a wide ironbark deck. The house was built using ironbark timber milled on-site. The internals are refined. All sealed and painted. Very clean and comfortable. The large verandah/deck is where most time is enjoyed. Plenty of seats and tables. Also workbenches available for painting and other art activities.

It's rustic. It is a bush retreat designed for city escapes. It's also a wonderful place for visitors to enjoy the Australian bush, complete with local wallabies.

Guests have access to all parts of the house except the main bedroom. Laundry, bathroom, toilet, kitchen, study and, of course, the verandah. We have a mini movie theatre (projector and lounge) which can be used at night to watch videos or DVDs. There is also a TV in the lounge (inside).

Visits to Barney View are fully hosted. We need to be here with you to help you work the electricity (generator) and other amenities. We can help you build a bonfire (restrictions permitting) and to explore the adjacent forest. This property (58 acres) backs on to the national park and there are a few walks you can do from the property (guided by arrangement).

Barney View is 1.5 hours drive South-West of Brisbane through Beaudesert. It is part of the Scenic Rim area and surrounded by lakes, dams, bushland and national parks.

You need a car to visit Barney View but you don't need a 4WD. We have a good quality dirt road leading up to the property. If you are worried about driving off-road we can pick you up at the gate. And if you want to visit, but you don't have a car, we can arrange to help you find a lift up and back.

Need to let you know:
(i) We have a composting toilet. It's inside, so you don't have to go out in the dark. It doesn't smell bad but it is different to septic and sewered facilities.
(ii) We use gas for cooking. There is a two-burner cook top in the kitchen and bar-b-ques on the deck. There is also a microwave which you can use when the generator is running.
(iii) This is a bush retreat not a Country Living-type establishment. It is cosy and peaceful, clean and fun but there are no polished floors or lavender cushion covers.
(iv) There is a working turntable in an old radiogram and a truck full of old LPs which make a fun night.

Règlement intérieur
Pas de fête ni de soirée
Peut ne pas convenir aux enfants (0-12 ans)

Pets may be accommodated. Contact to discuss. There are bush ticks on the property, of course, and it can be very expensive to have dogs treated for paralysis tick infections.

Smoking is not allowed in the house or on the verandah.

Profil utilisateur de Sue

We are Sue and Ian! We live at Barney View on a small block which is all trees and escarpments. Our little cabin overlooks the valley between Rathdowney and Mt Barney.

We can't live without morning coffee, time alone, quiet spaces, recycled timber or (sadly) our iPads.

If you are visiting us at Barney View we will meet you there and take care of you during your stay. There is a second living space on the block, above the art studio, so we can give you plenty of privacy but be around to help if you need it. We enjoy sitting around a camp fire, drinking red wine, watching old movies and making pizzas in the pizza oven.

Sue is an artist. She has the studio next door. Ian is the builder. He has created Barney View, with a platoon of hard working mates, as a base camp for bushwalking and generally relaxing with the boys.

You are welcome to join us for the weekend to get away from it all, and enjoy the silence.
