Dear friends,

Welcome to San Francisco and our home!

We’re getting the hang of Airbnb but there is always more to learn so please do let us know if there’s anything we can improve upon.

About our home

Whew.... Okay, got that out of the way…

WIFI: Network = HH & Password = harrisonhowe
Router is in the utility room with the washer dryer if you need to reboot it for any reason. If you do, give it a couple minutes and make sure all the lights are flashing green.

Please help yourself to tea, coffee, condiments, spices and of course all the kitchen equipment.

The carpet in the master suite and guest room was just laid this year. Please help us keep it pristine for as long as possible by not wearing shoes or having food in those areas. Laughable really because with our 6 and 3 year old, we're doomed!

Trash. If you need to empty the trash/recycling, take the elevator down to the garage and turn immediately left out of the elevator to the door straight ahead. The code is 1201. Our neighbor (Bill, he’s immediately below our unit) takes the bins out for collection on Wednesday mornings. He’ll know if anything gets put in the wrong receptacle - San Franciscans are pretty serious about their recycling and trash!

Additional info around the neighborhood, I’ve put a lot of this on AirBnB but not sure if it’s one to one so here’s some suggestions if you like.

There's no shortage of amazing restaurants for all budgets and all cuisines here. There's a lot of emphasis on sustainability, local and farm to table here, which makes for fresh, delicious fare.
Here are some neighborhood favorites...
Another Cafe, down the block on Pine @ Leavenworth. Great coffee. Decent pastries, breakfast sandwiches, etc.
Aliment - our favorite neighborhood restaurant on Bush @ Mason. Food is excellent and our regular go to place. Tell the owner Erik that Rob sent you and that he’s a jerk and he’ll probably buy you a drink.
Liholiho - a rather odd combination of Hawaiian, Japanese and Indian, but it works! Opened up a couple months ago and the food is delicious. Service unpretentious and attentive. Super popular - make a reservation. Sutter @ Leavenworth.
Go up the hill to Venticello, great Italian on Taylor @ Jones. Or, its more casual sister, Nob Hill Cafe, a block closer to use - Jones @ Sacramento.
Seven Hills on Hyde Street (walkable from our place) – need a reservation, wonderful Italian food (I’d say better than Venticello, which is great). Hyde Street is pretty at night with lights wrapped around the trees. The cable car goes right past, so you could hop on it on the way home.
La Folie on Polk St is a fabulous four star french restaurant. If time, reservations, or budget make this a challenge, check out:
La Folie Lounge, next door to La Folie, is much easier to just drop in and enjoy a drink and appetizer in a more fun, neighborhood, and casual setting. Between getting to watch them make the cocktails and the enjoy the people watching this is a great place to visit.
Polk Street is also choc-full of great, inexpensive restaurants: Co Nam or Aux Delices for Vietnamese, Rangoon Ruby for Burmese, Swan Oyster Depot (tiny hole in the wall, open only at lunchtime - be prepared to queue), Blue Barn for salads and sandwiches, just stroll and see what takes your fancy.
For takeout our faves are: Za for amazing pizza; T'ai Chi for Chinese; Aux Delices for Vietnamese, Mehfil for Indian.

Things to do - so much to see and do here, for the whole family
Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park. This is great for all the family. The De Young museum is directly opposite, check out any new exhibits that interest you. Or, you can just head straight to the restaurant for lunch after the Academy of Science. The food at the De Young is very good. You can also just go to De Young viewing tower - great views of the city from there.
Alcatraz - a must. Go at dusk - it's pretty creepy. The audio guide is totally worth it; really helps you feel what it might have been like for the inmates.
Cable car. It's fun to ride the cable car, but the lines are tiresome. The most scenic route is Powell-Hyde line which runs from Nob Hill and Russian Hill (some of the city's hilliest areas) before ending at Aquatic Park/Ghiradelli square. You can walk from there north to Crissy Field, or south to Fisherman's wharf. Try catching it from line, but could be full by the time it reaches you. Alternatively, walk down to the car turntable @ Powell and Market – be prepared to wait ~30-45 mins, the line can be looooong!
Crissy Field. Walk towards the Golden Gate bridge for breathtaking views of the bay and bridge - get lunch and hot chocolate at the Warming Hut and then walk back with a city view.
Rent a bike. San Francisco is hilly, but it's a great way to get some exercise and take in the sights. I think the rent-a-bike routes take you along mostly flat areas. They’ll include Crissy Field.
Keep going and bike across the Golden Gate bridge and into Sausalito. Sausalito is dense with tourists, for good reason… it has amazing city views. If you go through Sausalito a little further north (about 10 mins by bike) to a business park on the water (bear with me…), there's a great casual restaurant called Fish - away from the crowds of Sausalito center, though it's a hugely popular restaurant. Worth the effort. Amazing Fish and Chips, ceviche and lots of other delicious food and drink which you can enjoy outside by a harbor.
Head to the Embarcadero and take a stroll. The Ferry Building has great food. On the Embarcadero you can get a ferry to Sausalito or Tiburon. We like Tiburon. You can take bikes on the ferry too.
Tiburon - very pretty coastal town a little further along from Sausalito, which also looks back at the city. You can bike here from the city if you’re feeling energetic, and get the ferry back. We like Luna Blue for lunch/dinner. Sam’s is very casual and the food overpriced and underwhelming, but people go for the view, which is amazing.
Indoor mini golf - Urban Putt. Never experienced mini golf like this. Each hole is really cool. They have food and a full bar (for mum and dad!).
Bowling - Mission Bowling Club, good excuse to check out this eclectic neighborhood. Amazing restaurants here, but you do need to have your wits about you. There’s also an enormous Lucky Strike bowling alley in SOMA (South of Market). And a smaller one in the Presidio, which is a beautiful area to stroll in – great views of bridge. Check out Tracy de Jardin’s restaurants here.

Out of town trips
Healdsburg and Dry Creek Valley are our favorite wine country haunts. Healdsburg town is lovely. Eat at Dry Creek Kitchen (fancy) or Willi's Seafood and Raw Bar (mid-range). Get coffee and pastries and shop the gourmet foods and kitchen equipment at The Barn. Or, grab a deli lunch from The Dry Creek General Store - sit outside and enjoy the views of the vineyards. Spectacular.
Hike the Marin headlands. Mount Tamalpais has many trails to choose from.
Muir woods in Marin - enjoy the giant redwoods and hiking trails for any level of activity.
Stinson Beach - enjoy the incredibly windy roads and spectacular scenery along Highway 1, reaching Stinson beach where you can pick up a picnic and enjoy the beach.
Head south to Monterey. The aquarium is amazing. Carmel, a few minutes further south, is a pretty, sleepy town with great little cafes and shops and art galleries to browse.

Best burgers are Roam (one on Union St, another on Fillmore), and Super Duper burger (several locations around town).
Off the Grid in the Presidio - Sunday from 10:30am - check out the amazing food trucks and enjoy the view
Cooking in? Trader Joes and Wholefoods are nearby. The Mayflower market one block down on Bush @ Jones is handy for basics. The quickie mart kitty corner to our building is pretty empty - honestly don't know how it survives!

Getting around
Uber and Lyft, ride sharing apps for anywhere you can't walk to (download the app if you don’t have it), and much faster and better service then SF taxis which are notoriously so bad someone had to make a multi-billion dollar industry get rid of them.
rent a bike
Gocartours - another way to enjoy the city at your pace

TV Info:
Couple things.

First, we’ve cut the cord. We get some Over The Air channels but no traditional cable. However, we do have:
Over The Air Digital TV
Apple TV

Second, it’s complicated so bear with me as I try to walk you through this. Feel free to call with questions.

Step 1. Find Remote Controls - 3 of them should be under the TV
There are three of them under the TV.
Denon Remote - Use to turn on Tuner, TV, Select Source and Control volume
Tivo Remote - use to browse TV selections, stream Netflix Hulu, and Amazon.
Apple TV remote – for, you guessed it, Apple TV.

Step 2. Turn on Denon Tuner with Denon Remote
*Two Red Buttons Top Right to Power On or Power Off
(or the power button on the bottom left of the Denon tuner).

Step 3. Turn on Samsung TV with Denon Remote.
*Bottom Left White button with Red stripe turns TV On
(or you can hit the power button on bottom venter of the Samsung TV)

Step 4. Select one of three viewing source with Denon Remote
Source 1. Tivo DVR -
Select DVR Button (on Denon Remote (3rd Column, 5th row))
Tivo DVR can access:
Over The Air Channels

(we don’t mind if you watch pay for movise within reason - code is 46836)
Netflix (also accessible on Apple TV)
Hulu (also accessible on Apple TV)

Source 2. Apple TV
Select V.AUX Button on Denon Remote (4th Column, 4th row)
Apple TV can access:
Apple TV apps.
Netflix (also accessible on Tivo DVR)
Hulu (also accessible on TIVO DVR

Apple TV can NOT Access

Over The Air Channels

Step 5. Watching TV Source. Choose which source you want and follow these steps.

1. Tivo Box – Use Tivo Remote.
*With this Remote you can access
Over The Air Channels
Netflix (Please use AirBnB Guests profile)

(*If you’d like to order a movie on Amazon, feel free to use our code 46836, within reason. If you really go crazy for a movie weekend you’re on the honor system)

2. Apple TV – use Apple remote

Step 6. - Sound Quality
You’d really think the sound would be better, especially for streaming services. It’s great to be cutting the cord and streaming whatever whenever but there is room for improvement on sound quality here. Anyway, here’s what you need to do.

FROM THE ACTUAL TUNER (not the remote) –
scroll through the Surround Mode”button looking for,
Multi-Channel Stereo. You’re welcome to select others but this is likely the best.

Step 7. Troubleshooting
Should be Troubleshooting only for when you got confused and hit too many of the wrong buttons or sat on the remote and who knows what happened.

Troubleshooting TV Source
TV Source needs to be HDMI 2
(use input button on Denon remote, bottom left, to the right of the red PowerTV Button
OR TV “Source” button is on the side (right side) of TV, top button. Press to move through

Troubleshooting volume or misc weirdness
From Denon Remote
Make sure “Zone Select” is set to “Main”. Otherwise,
Press “Zone Select”, (Row 2, Column 2) to to cycle through Zone 1, and Zone 2, to Main Zone

That's it! We hope you have a wonderful stay.

Best wishes,

Lin & Rob

Me and my family (4 adults and 2 children) had a great time in San Francisco. The apartment is beautiful and the location is awesome. We didn't meet Rob but he was always in communication with us. Trust me this is the place you want to stay while in the city.

This is a great apartment. Lots of beds and bedrooms and oodles of living space. Beautiful bathrooms, great laundry, good kitchen, fab patio and all this very well situated a short distance to Fisherman's Wharf or in to Union Square. San Francisco is very hilly and we would walk down the hills and uber up. Rob asks that guests don't walk on their bedroom carpets with shoes so we took ours off at the lift and walked with socks which is what we do at home: nice! Rob is a good communicator and very hospital. WE hope that we get to stay there again in the future.

My coworkers and I had a great stay at Rob's apartment for a conference in San Francisco. The place itself is surprisingly huge, very clean, well located, and very comfortable. Rob was a great, communicative host who was very interested in making sure we had a good stay. Thanks!

To be honest, the description and the photos weren't as good as the place actually was! This apartment is gorgeous and there's tons of space. I'd guess it's somewhere in the ballpark of sf and with my group of 8 we had plenty of space. We made dinners and breakfasts together, spent plenty of time enjoying the balcony and the fireplace in the living room and enjoyed many of the restaurants and attractions in the area. The master bedroom itself is huge, and allowed for me to sleep in while the rest of the group was up early chatting in the kitchen. Rob and his wife were fantastic hosts - they left us a great gift basket (that he even customized for our group after some back-and-forth chatting) and he remained available all weekend if any questions came up. Overall, I'd highly recommend a stay here, especially with a larger group or two families. With the king size aerobed set up in the guest bedroom four people can comfortably sleep there, while four more can sleep in the other two bedrooms with plenty of breathing room in the common areas to stay out of each others way if you need some space. Also - the fact that the elevator opens directly into the place made it feel a little extra special. Overall, this place and it's owners get a solid 5 stars from me and my friends.

Well there were ups and downs to say the least. The positives are they have a beautiful home in a fantastic location. The negatives are they were not prepared to rent their home AT ALL. They left all personal belongings out. I'm talking about personal bills, car keys, clothes, dirty towels, toys, clothes on the bed, unmade bed, and the list can go on. My family was very uncomfortable because it felt as if we walked in the front door as they left out the back. Overall Linda was very kind. Rob refused to answer me the second I voiced displeasure. It was not a great Airbnb experience BUT their home is beautiful and in a great location. I would not stay here again.

Sorry it didn't work out, we are both disappointed. We thought we had an understanding as we received your request Friday July 1st to arrive Saturday June 2nd. We messaged and spoke and shared that we had already left so would not be there to prepare the place as usual. We specifically asked that if you willing to work with us that we were happy to accommodate your last minute request and even make an exception to our no pets policy and accommodate your two dogs. We understood you were comfortable with this. Given this accommodation and asking if you were willing to work with us since we had already left and we were accommodating a last minute request and your pet, we didn’t expect small things like mail and car keys in the valet or a pair of fresh washed folded jeans on the bed, or having to go into the drawer for fresh towels would be an issue. But clearly we were wrong. In the future we won't risk a misunderstanding and simply explain I can't accommodate requests like this. Very sorry it didn’t work out.
