Any visitor to Stroud really needs to visit the Farmers Market on Saturday morning for takeaway food/ food stalls. Its been voted the best local market in the UK.
Stroud is very much the country version of alternative places such as Camden or Shoreditch- it’s a quirky, quixotic, bohemian town with very strong community roots and local free trade shops including art and vintage shops. It has a HUGE amount of artists living in and around the environs. It was voted as one of Britains best places to live in a recent Sunday times article. Stroud is indeed, incredibly special and definitely embodies the hidden bohemian more authentic experience of the Cotswolds. There are always festivals or events, from literature, art to theatre taking place throughout the year.
The many mills are part of Stroud’s Industrial Past and house a bustle of workspace sharing co-operatives, artists studios, vintage shops, upholstery and jewellery making workshops. Many guests visit to take part in these workshops to experience this rich arts and crafts heritage. A short 10 minute walk from the house is a wonderfully authentic real ale typically British pub called ‘The Crown and Sceptre’- call in for a great Sunday roast.
Other notable nearby establishments to visit are The Subscription Rooms, Giffords Circus, Westonbirt Arboretum, Stroud Valley Artspace, Pangolin Gallery, Hawkwood College (for workshops). Minchinhampton Common is a beautiful common ground area where cattle roam freely across the roads and amongst golfers
There are many walks right from the doorway of the house. The Heavens is one beautiful area to explore as is the Stroud micro Brewery Walks to Rodborough Common across the Valley with great views of the river Severn and Wales and a visit to Winstones Ice Cream factory is a must. The Cotswold Way is near by, as are walks to Slad to visit the Woolpack, frequented by the famous author Laurie Lee. For those requiring a flatter walk – take in the beautifully restored Cotswold Canals with access from the towpath to unique pubs and cafes.

Painswick, the queen of the Cotswolds, Tetbury, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Bath and Bristol are also definitely worth a visit and are all within easy driving distance from Stroud.

'The Maverick Lodger' Artistic and Sporty- in equal measure. Love skiing (am a ski instructor for a couple of companies in Italy and Switzerland). When not throwing myself down mountains, I have worked for 15 years at an internationally renowned arts centre doing events for a wide range of different arts disciplines and am a trustee of an arts centre in Stroud. I also sit on the Stroud Tourist Forum- a Forum that provides support and advice to help me get the most of the area for guests. I come from a stage management background having worked on the west end and toured the UK. I also have sung in a few bands and achieved an album with the second band. Ive just completed a part time Masters in Arts Management. I LOVE creative tourism. I attend as many arts happenings as I can in London and Stroud and am lucky enough to have lots of artist friends who are an inspiration to me. Im well travelled, having been to the Cook Islands, Fiji, most of Europe, USA (East, South and West Coast), Malaysia, Thailand, Bali, Lombok, Bermuda and Roatan in Honduras. I started taking lodgers into my home in 1999 and switched to airbnb in 2014- achieving and keeping superhost status all this time. My second property in Stroud commenced bookings last December. My life motto is to make the most of living in the present and treat others how you would like to be treated yourself. My job has involved top level customer experience, anticipating audience needs before they know what they want themselves and I use this experience to ensure that I anticipate guests needs in a creative way. Airbnb has been fantastic experience - I've enjoyed learning about guests different backgrounds/cultures and some nights have wiled away the hours discussing various subjects. Love it!I know Ive succeeded at good hosting when guests come back several times to stay. Do check out my business page too by searching for "The Maverick Lodger"

Pendant votre séjour
I reside at the property and am more than happy to provide a ‘tea and cake’ welcome for guests and help them with information and ideas about the area to make their stay as fulfilling as possible. I have lived in London for 20 years as an Arts Event Manager/ Theatre Stage Manager and know all about the importance of solid customer experience in arts venues. I am trustee of the Subscription Rooms (the local venue in Stroud) and like to keep tabs on all the interesting events happening in and around the area. My airbnb in London has taken in over 300 guests since 2014 and I have been a Super Host continuously for the last four years having received wonderful reviews. I am also on the Stroud Tourist Forum. Guests that book my Camden Property in London after booking this listing will receive a discount.
Occasionally, I have to head back to London but guests will be given self check in details if I am unable to check them in personally.
