À propos de ce logement

Faithfully reconstructed 1880s boarding house with 2nd-floor efficiency. Authentically preserved, unspoiled British-founded historic village. Surrounded by river gorges and historic trails, bordered by Big South Fork National Recreation Area.

Le logement

This is a private, spacious area, with a great view. The unit contains an antique double bed, a fold-out single bed, sitting area with loveseat and desk, full kitchen with cookware and dishware. Our guests always comment on the peacefulness of the "Perrigo Perch."

Échanges avec les voyageurs

Alexander-Perrigo House is owned by Donna Heffner and Annie Patterson. We are very often at the site, either running our shop (also located in the front of the building) or socializing with friends and guests, and also have two wonderful part-time employees. We are available to our guests 24/7. Rugby is a small, very friendly community - visitors are warmly welcomed, and our guests often leave having made new friends.

Autres remarques

Historic Rugby, Tennessee has many events and on-going happenings - festivals, our Appalachian author series, classic car shows, Ghostly Gathering, Christmas at Rugby and much more. We would be glad to give you more information!

I don't even know where to start with this review! There really are no words to describe the hospitality I experienced from not only Donna and Annie, but also from the entire community of Rugby, TN on my recent visit. I'll try to capture just a bit of my experience below: Alexander-Perrigo House: The accommodations in the "Perrigo Perch" were simply wonderful. The house itself is a replica, at least on the exterior, of an historic house and lodging facility that once sat upon the same plot of land. The second story room was beautifully constructed, decorated, and stocked. It felt as though I was staying with family. A truly beautiful place. The shop downstairs was beautiful as well. Filled with Donna’s art and that of other local artists, as well as vintage oddiments, as Donna describes them. Donna was the perfect host. Upon my arrival, I met her at the Harrow Road Cafe, which is essentially across the street from the house. There we had a drink and she introduced me to some of the locals. Together they told me about the history of the town and surrounding area, shared some personal stories, and gave me some trail tips for my upcoming weekend adventures. It was quite a warm welcome, and very much appreciated. Throughout the visit, Donna was communicative, friendly, and such a warm, friendly soul. Thanks for everything, Donna! Village of Rugby, TN: After my initial introduction to the café, I returned for dinner on the night of my arrival. I returned once again the following evening for a lecture by a recently retired Ranger from the National Parks Service who worked in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. It was fascinating, funny, and really, quite informative. Some of the people I had met the previous night and earlier that day were there and we chatted a bit more. They were so friendly and it was like I was already a part of their community. I truly felt like they cared about me as a human. It is a rare feeling these days, and again, very much appreciated. The following morning, I got up and after a "run" along the beautiful trail to the Gentleman’s Swimming Hole and then returned to the cafe for breakfast on my way out of town. Once again, some of the people I had met previously were there, including those who run the cafe, and welcomed me with questions about my weekend, stories of theirs, and some other general friendly chatter. One gentleman even gave me his card and encouraged me to stay in touch. If I felt like I was starting to feel like part of the community on Saturday, by the time I left on Sunday, I REALLY felt like was a neighbor to these kind folks. Rugby is a truly unique place on this planet and I encourage everyone to visit. It’s filled with smart, friendly, caring, cultured, artistic people. Go there! And when you do,...

Thank you, Christopher, you're a special young man and we felt so "at home" with you also. One of the joys of hosting is meeting wonderful people such as yourself, and all of us hope to see you again! (And next time, God willing, there won't be a monsoon....)

This is such a nice little town. The trails were awesome as well. No TV but quality time playing board games was amazing!! Just remember to bring food because they aren't any restaurants anywhere near this location.

We enjoyed meeting you and Nick, Chelsie, and are sorry your visit was on a day our wonderful café, Harrow Road, was closed - as it's just across the street from the lodging it's very convenient. We always suggest checking café hours before arrival and also provide an information notebook in the lodging containing suggestions for restaurants, groceries, etc. in the area. Come back and see us and have breakfast or lunch at the café on us!

The hosts are perfect. Everything was in order when I arrived including all the little extra amenities I might need. The bathroom cabinet was nicely stocked, not only with the usual shampoo and bath supplies, but also little cases for headache and sinus relief. The apartment is beautiful and the kitchen is well stocked. Rugby is a great little town with lots of little shops, one of which is owned by the hosts. Plan some time to check out the store and you will come home with nice gifts for friends and for yourself. My only regret is that I could stay only two nights. This is a great place to stay for a week of hiking in Great South Fork National Park, or just driving around Tennessee. I will be back soon and hopefully to spend longer.

Great space in a neat, restored village. We stayed in the Perch on the second floor and it was a great base for visiting Big South Fork. Very cozy and functional. Small, artsy shops and a restaurant across the street. Only wish we had access to the porch on the second floor, but this section of the house is closed to guests. Stars are incredible on clear nights. Highly recommend.

Our stay at the Alexander-Perrigo House was wonderful! It is centrally located in historic Rugby which made it easily accessible to walking trails, shops, and tours of the community. The locals and hosts were very friendly and helpful by providing activity ideas, maps and other information about local attractions. Our efficiency apartment was very comfortable and perfect for a quiet getaway.

This place is a gem! Beautiful and clean. A great place to stay if you're hiking in the National Park. We didn't get a chance to meet Donna, but I'm sure she's as wonderful as her partner Annie. We hiked the Honey Creek Loop trail and it was fantastic. We got breakfast at the place across the street and it was delicious. We will always stay here when hiking in this area. Thank you! Greg and Madelyn.

We have lived in beautiful East Tennessee since 1985, and feel so blessed to call this home. My partner, Annie, is from Michigan, and I'm from Pennsylvania originally (also have lived in Flagstaff, Arizona). We enjoy our rural life immensely; I'm a nature/wildlife artist, and my subjects are everywhere here - from our "critters" (deer, bear, coons, skunks, innumerable birds, etc.) that we see on a regular basis to the occasional bear or bobcat passing through. At 67, I value the peace and neighborliness of our area; there can't be many places left like this in the hurly-burly world we live in today! We are bookaholics, love to play games, enjoy all kinds of music but especially gospel and bluegrass, and LOVE to cook (and eat!). Our community of Rugby is a wonderful one, and we are here for good. And - one of our most favorite things is hearing "We loved staying here - we'll be back!"
