Terrible experience - avoid this place at all costs.
Although our hosts were kind enough to wait up for us until 11pm because we were delayed in a traffic jam for 3 hours at the French-Spanish border, everything after that was a nightmare experience. The apartment was filthy and smelt horribly of damp, which had been covered up with a sickly sweet air freshener smell. The two smells together were hard to bear. The host said in later contact that the apartment had been flooded and this explained the smell and the damp marks on all the walls, but I don't understand why they still accepted guests when the apartment clearly needed to be refurbished after flooding. Add to this that it was dirty, with stains on the two tablecloths covering the two tables, cobwebs and insects everywhere, dirt on the trailing socket, toilet, and everywhere. A cockroach appeared in the kitchen, too! The soap in the bathroom was dirty. We had no towels and no washing-up liquid to clean our dishes and the bed linen was not in a good state. There were dirty lamps with no bulbs, but new lampshades had bizarrely been placed on them still in their plastic coverings! One pillow appeared to have no cover and we really did not want to sleep in the beds. We had to stay one night because it was late at night in a rural village in a remote part of France and we had no other option. My husband had been driving for 12 hours and was exhausted. We left as soon as we awoke after a terrible night in the morning. Our host responded to the complaints by complaining that we had left the beds unmade and had not emptied the rubbish! I took photos of the dirt and cockroach so her denials of the state of the place were in vain.
