San Gil is a colonial town founded 325 years ago. Today it is a dynamic and growing medium size city and the center of an active tourist region. It is a mix of new malls and old colonial buildings. There is a huge daily farmers market one block from the central plaza. People are friendly and welcoming and safety is not a problem. Grocery stores are within walking distance and the attached building next door is a small mom and pop store that has a surprising variety of groceries.
