Nestle into a cute 60's caravan for your stay in Melbourne. You'll swear you're in the country. Meanwhile, you'll be walking distance to Sydney Rd and 2 minutes walk from the No.1 tram into the city, via East Brunswick and Carlton. The van is stylish, immaculate and comfortable, with sun streaming in through the north-facing windows. Gaze out over the garden with local plants and veggie patch, or open the rear gates to view the 'paddock', and beyond it, Merri Creek and Joe's Market Garden.

Le logement
The van is an urban retro holiday experience. If you're looking for a genuine trip back to the simpler caravan holidays of yore (with wifi!), then the place may well be just what you're after. If you're looking for the traditional space and comforts and mod cons of a house, I'd suggest this is probably not the place for you. Please read my notes below for more information about this.

The van is set in my small but green and leafy garden, with views over the creek. It has its own entrance via my garage. You will also have access to your own external bathroom nearby, with a toilet, shower and washing machine. Walk or cycle along the creek bike path into neighbouring Brunswick, Preston, Thornbury and Northcote, or beyond, or tram it into the City.

Autres remarques
Please read the following to ensure that you know that to expect from your stay:

This accommodation is a vintage caravan and it is in a backyard, surrounded by garden. I'd describe it as more of an urban retro caravan holiday experience than a traditional house-based Airbnb experience.

The caravan is in immaculate and original condition, and it's comfortable, however it is old and it is small. It needs to be treated with care. It's best suited to solo travellers.

The dedicated bathroom is a short walk from the van, along a brick garden path. It's my external laundry, which has been converted into a bathroom with a toilet and shower There are external lights and solar lights to find your way in the evenings.

There is no plumbing in the van. Drinking water is accessed via bottles in the fridge which can be refilled in the nearby laundry. There is a sink in the van with a pump tap with cold water, which can be used for washing, with boiled water from the kettle if you so wish, and for rinsing.

Cooking equipment is limited. There is a microwave. There is a small fridge. There is also an electric frypan, sandwich maker, toaster and kettle. Ample crockery and cutlery, and pots and pans and utensils for food preparation for small snacks and meals are supplied. There is also an outdoor BBQ, which can be used for cooking. -- The van gas cooker and hotplate is not for use. --

The van has fans for heating and cooling, however there is no air-conditioning currently. This means that when the weather is hot, the van becomes hot. I would suggest that it is not suitable for stays where the weather is predicted to be very hot, by which I mean, sustained hot weather over 30 degrees.

This is a safe and welcoming space for people who identify as women and/or LGBTIQ.

Coburg, Victoria, Australie

Coburg is diverse in every which way, but particularly culturally. There's lot of cheap, fresh and tasty food -- you're likely to get the best felafel you've ever tasted here. There are a few hipster cafes, not too many however. It's not overly gentrified, though it's getting that way.

The Merri Creek winds its way along between Coburg and West Preston/Thornbury. The bike path that follows along this path and threads its way through to the Yarra River and the inner city is very popular with cyclists and dog walkers.

The Creek is a particularly significant area for the Wurundjeri community, who are the traditional Indigenous owners of the area. The most recent archeological reports show Australian Aboriginal culture to be the most ancient culture in the world, with 120,000 years of history and inhabitation.

White settlement in the 1700's brought dispossession, displacement and genocidal treatment of Aboriginal communities in Australia, which has been ongoing and continues today. The Wurundjeri Tribe Council continue to protect and manage cultural heritage across the lands in and around the Merri Creek.

Coburg has an interesting history in the settlement of Naarm (Melbourne), having been it's own 'Burg' of sorts historically, outside of the Melbourne city limits, with a number of industrial mills and factories. The infamous, but now defunct, Pentridge Prison is a major landmark, and holds many stories within its walls.

Pendant votre séjour
I will be in the house that the van is in the backyard of. I am keen to give guests as much privacy as possible, as well as ensure my own, so will be contactable by mobile only. I am currently landscaping the yard to ensure the van has its own patch of outdoor area to enjoy and spend time in.

There are two dogs that live in the house, who will occasionally bark (not at night however), and may potter in the yard, but can be kept out of the van areas and vicinity if preferred.
