Le logement

Set in an almost secret valley on the edge of Exmoor but only 8 miles from Taunton the Hoccombe valley is the place to unwind. At night the only noises are the hoot of owls the sound of running water from the mill stream and snuffling of nocturnal wildlife. On clear nights as there is no light pollution, the skies are inky black and dotted with a million stars. The cottage itself has the feel of country living whilst retaining the comfort of a modern home - light and airy in the summer -warm and cosy in the winter.
The modern paintings on the walls and the careful design of each room have been put together with an eye for style and comfort. The sitting room has French windows leading out to a terrace and the garden. The Mill house adjacent is the home of the owners who are on site if needed.
Parents of young children should be aware that there is both a river and a pond close to the cottage.

Hoccombe Cottage is a small detached barn which was converted at the end of the 80’s. It has been refurbished more recently to make a stylish and comfortable base for two couples or a family wishing to explore the delights of Somerset.
It consists of:-
A double with en suite toilet
A twin bedded room (with cot)
Included: All linen and duvets ,(excl cot) towels and Bathrobes hot water & central heating
Bathroom inc power shower
Sitting/dining room with French windows, Ipod docking sound system & Colour TV with DVD,
Well equipped Kitchen
Electric oven & grill, fridge & freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, Microwave, Toaster and Kettle, iron etc. Re-chargeable torch, maps and picnic stuff available for you to use.

Louise and David's welcome to their beautiful cottage was incredibly inviting and informative. The cottage itself is beautiful and very well equipped for any length of stay. The countryside it is set in is gorgeous, remote and peaceful, but also close to plenty of attractions and things to do, from exploring Exmoor, going to the beach to sampling the local cider! My little family loved playing in the large garden, wandering down the country lanes, exploring round the pond and chatting to the chickens! We can't recommend Louise and David's cottage enough and would love to spend more time ther in the future.

I don't often write reviews but I knew I had to write one about this beautiful place. Be prepared for peace and tranquillity, as well as some serious single lanes:) But that only adds to the charm of this cottage. We were welcomed by David and were explained everything that we needed to know and it was all done in such a welcoming and friendly way. Louise baked us an orange drizzle cake and left some goodies in the fridge to get us started. We were also offered freshly laid eggs as well as freshly baked bread...Kids loved the garden and although the weather wasn't great, they ran around, come rain or shine. Our older daughter is autistic and she loved it, especially, the garden, the chickens and the walk in their fields.Every day we got to observe rabbits and squirrels running around and it was very refreshing to be falling asleep to the sound of (URL HIDDEN) is suitably located to people who would like to explore Somerset, everything is very close. We loved our little trips and coming back to this beautiful place. David and Louise are very friendly and when they see you, often stop for a chat and ask about your day. We will definitely be coming back, if they have us:)

Co Director of small Arts related company, retired husband and two sons (29 and 24) a darling chocolate labrador, her new companion a yellow rescue Labrador and some hens and we live in the middle of nowhere - but a very beautiful nowhere!. Need to be in London sometimes - son lives in Hammersmith area but v small flat!
Also now a son at Oxford in Engineering - and the need to pop up occasionally and feed/see him.
Really enjoying hosting in our totally separate holiday cottage, in what we think is the most beautiful valley, where we brought up our boys- we bought it for them and they still love coming home bringing friends in tow. Now we have new friends from all over the world coming to enjoy this hidden magical little piece of Somerset Countryside.
