Tec is very nice and helpful, she has a lot of good will. the apartment is very basic and simple , the village is a small fishermen's village with very nice people. the beach is quite dirty. we mostly enjoyed being in the simple village and rest there. from there you can walk for an hour to two nice beaches

We arived to the nice house at the front of the beach welcomed by so many smiling faces. The house has two bedrooms and a large open area with a kitchen. Outside is a bench which was a meeting place for our kids and village kids to play and share hours of fun. The people here are so friendly and helpful you can experience real fishing village life. Tic the owner is not there but was always available by text or phone and did everything to help us feel at home. In the village there are many small shops with the basics. From the fishermen there is huge variety of fresh fish and fresh bread rolls from the bakery. Two recommendation I would give are buy food supplies at Puerto Princess and not El Nido before you arrive and be aware that there are sand flies buy "Off Lotion" and wear a t shirt to swim. If you are looking for a relaxing time out of the tourist trail and be the only tourist in the village it a great place to spend some time.

The Refuge place is placed in the most amazing village we have ever visited-Bucana! The village sits on a beatiful bay while the house itself is 10 meters from the beach at high tide. In the house there are 2 big bed rooms and a living room and kitchen, and ofcourse a huge yard which is great to seat and stare at the see and the local kids playing. But on top of all, the best thing here are the lovely people of Bucana, you can really experience the rural life here and feel soooo welcomed that you wanna stay for good. My family and I(2 kids at the age of 6 and 3) stayed at the refuge place for a week and had one of the best weeks in our 9 months jurny, we all recommand this place for those who love simplicity, nature and wanderful community

This listing has a beautiful beach that you will have virtually all to yourself. However I would only suggest someone stay here if certain conditions were met, all of which require big changes on the part of the owner. None of what I write is a complaint about the owner as a person, and I do not wish to make complaints about the owner as a person, it is strictly a statement of facts that occurred during my stay. 1: THE OWNER NEEDS TO ARRANGE TRANSPORT BY VAN AT A REDUCED COST. The owner has a local contact who drives a tricycle. This is the most common method of transportation throughout El Nido. As other reviewers have noted, the house is quite a long way away from town, but this is not the main issue. Because the road to the house is not paved a ride in a tricycle is both physically painful and generally unsafe. We asked to have a van transport us to and from town and the cost of this became so prohibitively expensive that it was one of the reasons we left the listing prematurely to stay at a hotel in town. 2: THE OWNER MUST FIND A DIFFERENT LOCAL CONTACT. I was in constant communication with Tec before our arrival. She answered all my questions confidently but almost none of her answers were reflected in our experience. We confirmed with Tec that we would visit a market in town after our flight to get food to prepare meals during our stay given the remote location of the house. It took an entire afternoon to communicate to her local contact (same tricycle driver as above) that we needed to go to more than just a convenience store, despite the fact that she had told us that she had shared our request with him before our arrival. This resulted in a lot of confusion and wasted time. The listing said that boats would be able to pick us up at the house directly instead of going into town if waters were calm. We were told the waters were not calm. The local contact had arranged for our boat tour (for which we would need to go into town) before our arrival at the house. On the day of the tour we chose to take a van instead of the local contact's tricycle. However, the local contact told the van driver to drop us off at a meeting place (NOT the boat) where he would later meet up with us. We only found this out when we were stranded at this "meeting place" and asked the driver why we weren't at a boat. The local contact never showed up and by the time we asked he driver to help us find another boat there were no available tours for the day. We never saw nor heard from the local contact again. Tec informed us that he had gotten a flat tire on his way to meet us, however,...

Tec was very easy to communicate with. She offered help with transportation and prompt in her replies. I did not stay in the place because I booked it for my sister so unfortunately they had problems with it. The location was a bit far for them as they were only staying for few days. It was hard for them coming to the place in the evening after 5-6 hours van ride from Puerto Princesa. According to my sister the best part of it is they had fresh fish and oysters from the local fishermen. The local people were very friendly. There were no other tourists and they actually preferred it that way.

Ms. Tec is an awesome host though my friends and I did not meet her. She is very prompt in her replies and communication with her has been easy, either via email or phone. The staff host of Refuge Place were very accommodating and each went out of their way to ensure that me and my friends are comfortable during our stay. As for the listing, it is as described. The kitchen has electric stove, wok, pans, kettle, knife and chopping board. Both inside and outside of the beach house are spacious. The hammock at the front yard offers a relaxing view of the sea and an amazing sunset. Stargazing is a must on a clear night. As for the neighborhood, a bakery is nearby and a grocery store is just around the corner (though prices of goods here are more expensive, so if you are coming from Puerto Princesa and you are on a budget, it is better to buy and stock up there). If dining out is an option, Shoreline Hut Bar and Restaurant, which is also in the vicinity and the only one at that, has some fresh seafood in their menu. All in all, staying at Refuge Place was a pleasant experience.
