The apartment is 67 paces in length. Renovated in 2014, the finish is luxurious yet homely. There are fantastic river views and the south facing garden and balcony enjoy sun throughout the day. The neighborhood is central, yet quiet and charming.

The apartment is 67 paces in length, created by linking two buildings. The north end was built in 1903 and we believe the southern part in the 1950's. The principle bedroom is on the left as you enter the apartment, noteworthy for its fine ceiling, Pierre Cardin bed, and stylish en-suite bathroom. There is an adjacent smaller bedroom with en-suite
bathroom, opposite which is a closet containing cupboards for linen and storage. As you continue through the apartment, you reach the dining room with an impressive carved ceiling, created when the apartment was built in 1903. The eight-seated dining table can be extended using the conservatory table to accommodate fourteen. Double doors take you through to the kitchen, from which you have your first view of our small garden and the Tagus river.
A small "conservatory" opens to a sunlit breakfast terrace that comfortably seats four, and also leads to a long corridor that links the front and back of the apartment. From this
corridor, you can enter a blue tiled guest bathroom and a further three bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom. One of these is our children's room, which may be used to store our possessions. Finally, you reach the drawing room. The view is magnificent, encompassing the river Tagus, iconic statue of Christ and Ponte 25 de Abril bridge. There is a south facing balcony, that catches the sun through to teatime, and another balcony from which a circular staircase takes you to
our small garden. This is sun drenched through to lunchtime, and provides very welcome afternoon shade.

Guests have access to all the apartment. Each bathroom has a hair-drier, and walk-in shower. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the larder has a washing machine. There is a garden (rare for Lisboa) accessible from the drawing room.
Music can be played throughout the apartment, controlled at the wall as you enter the drawing room. The switches turn the unit on / off, control volume and determine the
channel to source the music. Channel 1 is fed by a white "male" adaptor that fits most
audio devices including iPOD, iPhone etc. Channel 2 is fed by the ZON cable receiver
(useful as this can pick up a variety of radio stations).
Apple TV is also available. If you do rent any movies, we ask that you reimburse us the cost. A useful feature is to stream internet television via an iPAD through Apple TV. This allows you to watch British TV channels on the big screen; enabled by websites / apps like (website hidden).
High-speed WiFi is available throughout the apartment, (but not as far as the principle

You will be welcomed on arrival; but thereafter left to enjoy the apartment, as if it were your own cherished home. There will be an agent available to help if needed.

There is a sweet restaurant just across the street, called Tasca do Marquês. They
provide simple Portuguese fare, and are happy to cook and deliver if you wish. There are several other good local eateries, particularly in the adjacent road, Rua da Esperança (known for its restaurants);
Madragoa Cafe is good. TripAdvisor can inform you. 100 yards down our street is a cool, quirky bar called Wanli. Further afield, we recommend you have a drink in the bar by the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga in Rua das
Janelas Verdes; and for a really cool evening drink try the rooftop bar atop the car park
(yes, really) called "Park" at 58 Calcada do Combro in Santa Catarina.
The best local supermarket is Ping Doce, in Rua Jorge Alves. Another is in Rua San
Bento. This is just by the nearest stop for the famous 28 tram; purchase tickets in the
corner store at the bottom of our road.
Our neighbourhood is charming, particularly for the old-world experience of buying food
from small shops. We buy our fruit and vegetables just down from the French Embassy, enjoying a freshly squeezed orange juice on the way. There is an adjacent charming wine store. There is a butcher and baker nearby, but no candle stick maker. There is a local fishmonger too. The nearest cashpoints are at the bottom of our street. Santos railway station is 5 minutes walk away, from where trains travel to the beaches of Estoril and Cascais. Tickets can be purchased at the station, but remember to "activate" your ticket. The beaches of Caparica are fantastic, accessed most easily by car (30 min), or for a longer journey by public transport take the ferry from Cais do Sodre and then a bus to the beaches ( 1 h).

Lisboa is a delightful city to explore by foot. Taxis are in-expensive; and the famous 28 tram is just a few moments away.
Free parking is available in our road but be warned, roadside parking spaces are limited ! There is a car park at the end of our road, costing just a few Euro each day.

The apartment is lit with a combination of picture lights, dado rail uplighting and masses
of natural light.
There is no A/C but the flat is very cool even in summer months. Creating a breeze with windows opened at the top is the perfect solution.
The windows can be opened by quarter turning the handle to the
horizontal, or opened vertically with a half-turn of the handle. There are wooden shutters
in every bedroom to provide darkness overnight. Each room can be heated using electric powered marble radiators, switched on and off at the plug socket (these are expensive to run, so please ensure they are turned off when not required). Don't ask why, but the plug sockets in the blue and yellow bathroom operate when the lights are on. There is a wood burning stove in the drawing room, and a fireplace in the master bedroom,
although neither must be used as the flues have not been lined. The electricity, water and gas supplies can be turned off in the cupboards by the front door. There is a fire
extinguisher and fire blanket in the larder, and another fire extinguisher next to the
television. The entry phone is in a cupboard by the front door, although the bell is muted and often inaudible if you are in the south part of the apartment.

Règlement intérieur

This is an old building and however all attempts were made to insulate it when we restored it in 2013 noise is still an issue and we would ask our guests to avoid using heels on the wooden floor and kindly keep the noise down to the bare minimum from 11pm onwards.
The apartment is very secure. You will be asked to replace the apartment lock and keys if a key is lost, which will cost about €150. Please close the breakfast terrace and balcony doors when leaving. We strongly advise you to avoid fully opening the windows facing the street, for obvious reasons. The fireplaces MUST NOT be used.

I was born in Lisbon and it became a special part of me ever since.
At the moment I live in England where I run my own Interior Design practice. We aquired this flat as I seem to have more and more work in Portugal and my children absolutely love it there too, maybe one day in the future it will become more permanent, at the moment we are lucky to enjoy both countries and it is a wonderful blessing.
