My husband and I stayed at La Casa del Rio for a few days to explore the Valle de Bravo area and to visit the nearby Monarch Butterfly Reserve. We loved the hot tub, breakfast and beautiful forest view. Also, Saul (the hotel receptionist) was super helpful; he answered all of our questions, provided items that we asked for (like firewood and wine glasses) and gave us some great recommendations for places to visit in the area (like directions to the butterflies, to a scenic overlook of the town, and to a waterfall). He really made our stay extra welcoming! The room itself was pretty standard and got a little cold at night, but the fireplace kept us warm. My only real complaint is that our bathroom window directly connected to the service area, and it was a bit awkward to use the restroom with someone standing there doing laundry (the windows were a little obscured, but shapes were still very easy to make out).
