Le logement

Our condo is 2 stories with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, fireplace, living room, dining room, kitchen & a laundry in the “basement”. We co-habit with 5 really sweet kitties, so we have new hardwood laminate flooring throughout the house, new oak stairs & new tile in some areas for easy cleaning & throw rugs are washed almost weekly. Fast WiFi throughout. A large HDTV in the living room for everyone.

Our guest room is located on the 2nd floor & has a large window overlooking our deck where I grow herbs & flowers. Comfortable Queen-size bed with new sheets, pillows & comforter. Large closet & a laundry basket; 2 fold-up chairs & a 24" X 16" TV table (or two tables if you wish). Hopefully, you will like the chocolate treat that may appear on your pillow.

If there's a kid along, we have a twin-sized Memory Foam Roll-Out Lounger that rolls out on the floor and the guests can roll it up during the day if they want to.

New bath towels (etc.); we provide soap, shampoo & conditioner. Guests will use a very clean bathroom that is used a little bit by one of us as well. Also, we've added a hair dryer!

Our neighbors are quiet, mostly high tech white & blue collar professionals & very nice!

Accès des voyageurs

Bedroom, Bathroom, Kitchen, Dining Room, Living Room, Laundry, Deck.
We welcome you to use the full condo or even grab some herbs for cooking from the deck. Guests have access to the kitchen to cook, reheat, or store some food, but so far most guests have not scheduled kitchen time or even requested breakfast or coffee! There are a lot of great breakfast & coffee places nearby, so I’m not surprised.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

Most of our guests have been here for work-related trips, and have really appreciated the WiFi, the quiet neighborhood & the facilities. We may only see these guests once a day if at all, but love to chat if there’s time. Others are on leisure time, but are buzzing around the Bay Area having fun (I hope!). So far, no one’s used the kitchen much except to make tea.

I work and my daughter & her boyfriend will be at classes, studying, working or sleeping, so they are in & out daily but barely have time to say “Hi” to me.
The cats are banned from the guest room, but are very sweet & even the shy one is becoming more friendly!

Le quartier

We are in a quiet neighborhood in Sunnyvale - but you can do a lot of exploring for food, entertainment & outdoor activities here or nearby. Many “authentic” eateries exist close by (Japanese, Mexican, Indian...) as well as Fusion, Tapas, Burgers and Pizza. Coffee houses, breweries and wineries (even in Sunnyvale ...!)

About 15-20 min to: Shoreline Amphitheater (concerts) & Computer History Museum, tech companies, NASA, Great America Theme Park, Levis Stadium (4 miles), Tech Museum, Flint Center.

We are located about 1 mile from the nearest Light Rail or CalTrain station, 9-10 miles from SJC (~16 min) and 27-28 miles from SFO (~37 min).

If you have a car, overnight parking is not allowed in the "Visitor Parking" on La Mesa Terrace (HOA policy). So, guests must park overnight on California Avenue or other streets.

Autres remarques

We do have cats.
There are steps to get up to our front door from the street or visitor parking & the bedrooms are on the 2nd floor.

Please close the front door so none of our 5 cats escape. Check that you have locked it.
I park on the street: There is absolutely no overnight parking in the Visitor's Parking - it's against our Homeowner's Association (HOA) Rules & passes are issued to the homeowner only. Parking in the Visitor's Parking is allowed during the day or to load / unload your vehicle. Closest parking is on the street (not our private drive), even to unload luggage.

Linda is a good host and her place is conveniently located. The room, though small was comfortable and quiet. You share a bathroom with another guest in an adjacent room. Parking - on the street - especially late in the evening, is hard to find. Don't book there if you do not like cats or their odours.

I stayed here for about three months as I was transitioning from my old place in San Jose to my new place in San Francisco. Linda has been an amazingly sweet, attentive, and considerate host, and I'm really glad I went the route of staying in an Airbnb sublet where the host also lived there. Anytime I had questions or needed anything, Linda responded with a sense of urgency; she also showed care and concern when I got sick! My room had everything I needed and more, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The shared bathroom stayed relatively clean throughout my entire stay. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and living room areas anytime, though it was sometimes difficult to find space to prepare food or sit down to eat. What really helped was the new mini-fridge Linda bought for Airbnb guests to share. As long as guests don't need to cook, I'd say the kitchen is perfectly adequate for prepping cooked food or quick & easy meals. Linda and her family are very quiet and the family-friendly neighborhood doesn't get noisy. The sound of the Caltrain might take a little bit of getting used to, but won't wake you up from your sleep. The four cats are extremely sweet and well behaved, and Linda cleans after them practically every day, so there were zero issues with smells or messes. Street parking is a little tough, but I've never had to park more than a 7-minute walk away. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my experience here! Thank you, Linda!

Thanks, Vicky! I really enjoyed having you here and appreciate your suggestions! Yea, the kitchen isn't very big ... I'll see what I can do to re-arrange things more. Thank you!

The plus of this stay is that Linda is a gracious person, very pleasant. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The microwave was clean. The neighborhood is safe and very walkable. The location is very convenient. Be prepared to walk, parallel park, use stairs, and share space with several cats. We have cats ourselves, but were not comfortable since puke and pee were ever-present on the floors and throw rugs and several cat boxes occupied the dining room. There was no clean spot to sit to put one’s shoes on, read, or eat. Understanding breakfast would not be provided was fine. We had hoped for a spot to fix and eat breakfast, but that was not available. Refrigeration space is piled, so dinner leftovers might not stay upright. Linda is a gem, very hard working, and extraordinarily knowledgeable on many topics. It’s good to know what to expect when sharing someone’s home. Respectfully, Shaari and Len Unger

Réponse de Linda :
I do my utmost to keep up with the cats' messes, by vacuuming and/or dry-mopping and subsequently wet-mopping (or wiping) the wood floors and washing the throw rugs and couch and chair covers as needed/regularly (e.g., if a cat yaks on them), but before Len and Shaari were here, my clothes dryer broke. It took a few weeks to research what was wrong and I finally decided to get a new one with financial help from a friend. While I evaluated what was wrong with the dryer, I was using other resources to dry our laundry (neighbors, friends or a laundry mat) - all of which took LOT of extra time and resulted in not being able to keep up with my other cleaning - & many other things - nearly as well as usual. This problem was compounded as both of our cars were in the shop (mine for 22 days, resulting in bumming rides or using a service; the other car was also in the shop a few times in the same period). Consequently, without a working clothes dryer and the huge amount of additional time it took to do laundry as a result, I was unable to do my regular washing of the couch & chair covers (I ran out of clean extras I used to swap out) and the multiple throw rugs and the mop heads, or to take as much time as usual to vacuum or mop as much and as thoroughly as usual (daily at least). Plus I was working full-time. The situation that Len and Shaari observed was unusual as I'm generally fastidious about cleaning, but I was pretty exhausted. I removed all the carpets in the house in 2014 because I can keep the hardwood floors immaculate almost all of the time. Carpets are much dirtier, especially with pets. I do object to the comment regarding cat puke and pee everywhere: There was no pee anywhere except in the cat litters. If there had been any pee on any of the throw rugs, I would have removed it and replaced it immediately or just left the wood floor bare. I usually obsess about cleaning up any messes immediately, but I was drained due to the problems we were having due to the broken machine and some other additional expensive, unexpected bills (we have very limited resources). Some of the cat boxes are located in a contained area, under a very large shelf that I built for them that is in the back corner of the dining room. In general, there usually is almost no odor, and I do clean the litters and vacuum and dry-mop/wet-mop the area daily. The kitchen is small and is shared by my family and guests, so the refrigerator is used by multiple persons. I'm always willing to sort it out to make space available. My plan is to purchase a 4.4 cu. ft. refrigerator for our guests, but I have not had the money to do so. There is also a very nice, large dining room table with a clean table cloth and place mats (I change them regularly & wash them) and nice chairs. Yes, you can eat there. Lastly, I always sit on the stairs in the entryway to put my shoes on; the stairs are very clean. It never occurred to me that anything else was needed to sit on...even my nicest white pants have never gotten dirty ...and there is no place to put a chair near the entryway / shoe there are stairs going both up from the front door entrance and down.

I stayed at Linda's house for 6 weeks for business while relocating from Germany to California and looking for an apartment in this area. The location was perfect as the Caltrain station and Sunnyvale downtown is in walking distance and grocery stores can be reached by bike. I brought my own bike but Linda even offered hers. Communication is easy as she is living here and after work usually at home and open to a talk or questions. Part of the family are 4 cats, so you should at least be cat-friendly, though the cats won't go into your room. In the room, I could fit my two large bags easily into the closet and still had enough space for all clothing as in addition you can use the drawers in the cabinet on the right in the photo. The mattress was a really good one, firm, more European style. You share the bathroom, which is well kept by her, only with the one other guest room as the house offers two additional more shower / toilet rooms used by the family. I enjoyed to use the well equipped kitchen for making breakfast porridge and dinner.

I am a Scientist (Environmental Microbiology / Analytical Chemistry) with a creative bent, and I really enjoy being an Airbnb Host. To that end, I re-modeled my home (removed carpets, installed hardwood laminate flooring & wood stairs), and I did the tiling around my Fireplace & elsewhere myself.

I also have been doing Aikido Yoshokai for 30+ years (I'm NiDan) which I still practice actively and teach. I have many Youth students (7 - 16 years) and have a lot of fun teaching them (& some adults, too). But the best thing is how well Airbnb fits with this study: harmony and fitting with others!

Lastly, I like to sing and enjoy Madrigal singing as well as classical & jazz pieces; and am fond of classical guitar ... and much else. My most exciting adventure was singing Beethovan's Ninth as part of the Penn State Choir in Carnegie Hall with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
