We've dubbed our 360 sq ft backyard cottage Grandpa's Bunkhouse since it really was our grandfather's. Expect pride of ownership from 3 generations.

We have 2 studios here at The Johnson House, Grandpa's being our most private and spacious. If you are a more budget conscious traveler you might check out our daylight studio, Auntie's Hideaway. Either way, please see our reviews from 7 happy years hosting travelers.

Feline Alert: We have 3 indoor/outdoor cats. They go into the studios on fairly often so we cannot host anyone with allergies.

Common areas include the back, side, and front patios complete with fountain, dining table, LL Bean hammock, lounger, and chairs.

If you need laundry services, we can point you to a great laundromat sandwiched between a cornmeal crust pizza parlor and a colorful Cuban restaurant where the desserts delight.

Your host, Jean Johnson, is a retired historian and 4-season organic gardener. She uses maps to help orient guests to Portland and it's unique areas. Jean also enjoys taking interested guests with her for Chinese foot massage--a truly unforgetable experience. Ditto for the local neighborhood 4 of July fireworks, special 70mm indy film showings, wild blackberry picking in the neighborhood, and of course weekly yoga and qi gong classes. In short, Jean is glad to share Portland beyond Portlandia with guests. She is a retired historian and real estate broker with Portland's largest local company.

Ours is a neighborhood just off Noodle Flat in NE Portland. Pho Van is around the corner where we in the neighborhood go, and Thien Hong is just blocks away and where Portland's Vietnamese community goes for pepper salted squid. Otto's Wood Fired Pizzeria is near by as well, and a real asset to our Rose Way District.

There is free street parking, room for 2 vehicles . Our neighbors are friendly--join our impromptu happy hours during summers when we gather to watch to the kids play--and it's safe to walk about at night here.

Sandy Boulevard, Portland's 4 lane diagonal artery, is 2 blocks away and gives guests 10 minute access to the airport, 20 minutes to downtown, and 15 minutes to several of Portland's unique neighborhood destinations.

We're artists at heart here, and this home has been in our family for 3 generations. Expect nicely appointed historic and cultural touches, accompanied by quality furnishings and linens. What we do, we try to do right--going the extra mile with a little finesse.
