Description

This Guemes Island house sits on 5 acres of forested land, with a west facing view of the San Juan Islands. Hike to the top of Guemes Mountain with a panoramic view of the San Juan Islands or down to Square Harbor, a pristine cove.

This secluded home sits on 5 acres of forested land, with a west facing view of the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Mountains. The home was built in 2007 by Guemes Island contractor Matt Simons and was designed by Seattle architect Ariel Kemp.

The home has one bedroom nestled into the woods, a spacious and private loft, and a comfortable fold-down couch near the wood stove. A large deck and raised balcony provide plenty of space to watch the sun set over the islands, water, and mountains.

The house has a master bedroom with a queen bed, a loft with a double bed, and a fold down couch in the living area.

The home is a hikers' paradise. A 20 minute hike up the hill brings you to the top of Guemes Mountain which has a 270 degree panoramic view of the San Juan Islands and looks directly at the 11,000 foot tall Mount Baker. A 20 minute hike down the hill brings you to Square Harbor, one of the most secluded and pristine coves on Guemes Island.

Guemes Island is a special place. It's less developed and more rustic than the other San Juan Islands.

Search for "Guemes Island Ferry" to see the ferry schedule to the island. It's a short ride, with frequent ferry service.

Please be very careful on the wooden deck, it can be slippery when wet!

Matt's house is an absolutely delightful island getaway. Secluded in beautiful woods with options to walk up or down the island. The view from the top of the island at sunset was wonderful. Highly recommended and looking forward to returning. Precisely as described. Thanks for sharing your house, Matt!

Matt's Guemes Island home is absolutely stunning. Tucked away in the trees with an amazing view of the water, it's the coziest little oasis perfect for a weekend getaway. The home was comfortable, clean and perfect for me, my boyfriend and our dog. We did lots of cooking using the well-stocked kitchen (cookware wise) and enjoyed the wood burning fireplace. The only issue we had was with the water pressure, but Matt emailed me back within less than an hour of me reaching out to him with a solution that did the trick. Quick & easy communication is always appreciated. The island itself is lovely - quiet and not crowded whatsoever. We explored the property around Matt's home, drove our dog to the resort to play on the beach, and had yummy soup & beers at the General Store right by the ferry dock. Can't say enough positive things about our weekend, we will definitely be back!

I live in Seattle with my wife and two boys. I love the Pacific Northwest and love introducing people to the area. I bike to work almost every day and try to play a little music when I have free time.
