Pat is kind and warm and generous. You can tell she enjoys having guests in her home. I appreciated the opportunity to do a work/trade for a few days. I did end up leaving earlier than originally planned. Having stayed in other airbnb old farmhouses, I would say this particula…

Hi Wendy, Yes it was really great having you stay with us this week. Your help on some projects is really appreciated. We do have several BIG projects in the planning stages as we continue to move our 1840 farmhouse forward. I'm not sure, though, if there are other farmhouses from this era still around. There are many farmhouses from the 1900's - but other early 1800's farmhouses are almost non-existent around here. It's a good point to notice for guests considering staying with us - our farmhouse definitely shows its historical era. So good for guests to like old houses if they are considering staying with us. Some folks love old houses - and some don't! Thanks again for your help - and best wishes as you continue your travels!
Pat was a friendly and welcoming host, and made a lovely gesture of emailing ahead asking if I wanted to have dinner with her and guest. I greatly appreciate the offer but in all honesty the kitchen looked too old and not my standard of clean. The description "survivor from anoth…

Dear Andree, *** Thank you very much for taking the time to address your concerns and observations for your brief overnight stay. We really appreciate guest comments and suggestions to make our house an even better experience. *** Re some of your points: *** We welcome bats in our environmental ecological development program. They are beneficial to the environment. Bat Rescue org reports: "A single little brown bat (myotis) can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in a single hour... ". *** We have developed our property along the guidelines of the National Audubon Society backyard wildlife habitat program. Bats are nocturnal and avoid light. They navigate by sonar (sounds waves). Most likely it was a moth outside the window, drawn to the light from the inside room. Moths will try for hours to access a light source. Sorry you were disturbed. *** As an aside, bats are regarded as "Good Luck" in Chinese culture - and are often featured on Happy Chinese New Year's cards. We feel lucky to have a few bats on our property. *** Yes, our 1840's farmhouse is old - as is indicated on our description - but not so old that there are dinosaurs hatching in the attic! *** The house is on municipal waste management. There is no septic tank - so not sure what the odors were that you were experiencing. *** The pool is a managed habitat for fish, frogs and natural plants. It looks like 2 water lilies are getting established this year. We are very happy about that! The water garden pool is not stagnant and cannot breed any mosquitos due to the resident frog and fish population that eat (almost instantaneously) any insects that land on the water - including mosquitoes. Indeed, a vibrant frog population is a known ecological mosquito control and recognized as a sign of a healthy ecosystem. The natural pool is being developed and balanced for eventual hydroponic food production along the principles of permaculture design. *** Inspectors have approved our emergency exit plan. Smoke detectors are being checked throughout the house. *** We appreciate your offer to assist with our house along the lines of our intern/work trade option and are sorry it did not work out. Thank you again for your observations, Andree. We really appreciate them. Wishing you well for future airbnb stays. Best, Pat
Pat made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived, and continues to make my stay pleasant and rewarding. I'm learning a lot as an intern and I feel happy in the house and gardens that Pat created over the years. The surrounding areas are picturesque; iris lined ponds, quaint tow…
