This is a year round retreat.
In the summer, bring your boat, or rent one from several local outfitters. Birchwood is the "Bluegill Capitol of the World" and the lakes that surround you are famous for Bluegill, Perch, Crappie, Northern Pike, Large and Small Mouth Bass and Walleye.
Like to golf?? The cabin is located adjacent to the Loch Lommand Golf Club--an beautiful 18-hole course.
In the Fall you are surrounded by hundreds of miles of hiking and ATV trails. You can rent an ATV from the local businesses, or you can bring your own. The Tuscobia trail runs right through the town of Birchwood and the Ice Age Hiking trail is 1/4 mile from the cabin. Don't miss Stone Lake's annual Cranberry Festival in October if you enjoy shopping and crafts.
Winter in the Wisconsin is one of the best times to visit. Ice fish in one of the local lakes, or grab a snowmobile for 100's of miles of groomed trails straight out our backdoor.

Fun Things to do at the Northwoods Retreat
(Recommend you call ahead to make sure these are open—some operate seasonally)
ATV TRAILS, BIRCHWOOD: If you have your own ATV’s bring them along. It is not legal to ride directly from the roads in the area, you must stay on the trails (Don’t worry, there’s 100’s of miles of gorgeous trails winding through the forests of Sawyer Co, WI!). If you bring your ATV’S with you, just trailer them to Ed’s Pit Stop in Birchwood. There is a huge parking lot in back of Ed’s where you can unload the ATV’s and park for the day, no charge. If you don’t have ATV’s you can rent them from SEASONAL POWER TOYS (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) . The Tuscobia Trail is located adjacent to Seasonal Power Toys and Ed’s, so you can just jump on the trail and go! (Sawyer Co Snowmobile Trail and ATV Trail Maps are located at the cabin.) (K, A)
SNOWMOBILE TRAILS, BIRCHWOOD: If you have your own sleds, bring them, you can take off right from the backdoor of the cabin. Or, if you would like, you may rent dock space just down the road (at the Tagalong Golf Course Boat Landing—Red Cedar Lake); or you may rent a pontoon for the day from the folks at Tagalong or many of the local resorts. Red Cedar Lake is a huge lake, great for swimming/fishing and it is connected to Hemlock and Birch Lake as well. (K, A)
GOLFING: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) . Tagalong Golf and Resort is located adjacent to the cabin. This is an 18-hole golf course that’s lots of fun for everyone, (K, A, G)
SNOWSHOE, HIKE, CROSS COUNTRY SKI—The Tuscobia Trail runs right through Birchwood, and this is a great trail for snowshoeing, hiking or cross country skiing. The Ice Age Trail is located about 3 blocks from the cabin and it is a non-motorized trail that is wonderful for hiking. NOTE: The Ice Age Trail is not as well marked as it could be. Be sure to take a compass and let someone know where you are going—cell phones do not always work in this area. Also, I would not recommend the Ice Age for cross country skiing, it is just too rough in areas. (K, A, G)

JASON'S MARKET, BIRCHWOOD—Main Street, Birchwood. They have a good supply of all the “Basics”. THE FIRESIDE, HAYWARD: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) W County Rd K, Hayward.
This is the one of the nicest restaurants in the area. It is the place to go for a romantic couples’ dinner or a nice night out (I would not recommend bringing the kids, just not that kind of vibe). Fireside offers a unique menu for this area-high end food that would likely be considered expensive when compared to most other local restaurants. The restaurant offers a relatively small selection of entrees but each time we eat here we find the food well prepared and enjoyable. (A)
ANGRY MINNOW BREW PUB, HAYWARD— (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) .This is a fun, quaint, little brewery on the edge of Hayward. The menu is small and eclectic, but always enjoyable. Not a place I’d bring the kid’s, but a great place for the girls, or the couples to visit for lunch if you are shopping in Hayward. (A, G)
HAYWARD SHOPPING, HAYWARD. There are tons of fun shops in Hayward, most of them located on the main street. Just find a place to park and wander. The kids will enjoy the shops, too. Many of them are “tourist-oriented”, so both kids and adults will enjoy an afternoon spent walking about. (A, K, G)
