Description

Characterful, cosy, self-catering apartment in historic Moorish house with lovely plant-filled patios. In quiet street off vibrant Albaicin square. Beamed ceilings, free wifi; sleeps 2 in double bedroom with own lounge/kitchen and bathroom.

A characterful ground floor apartment in a 15th century listed Moorish house with central plant filled patio in the lovely Albayzin area.
The self contained apartment consists of 3 rooms. Firstly, a combined sitting area/kitchenette and dining area, then a double bedroom and a bathroom. It is decorated throughout in warm colours and with a great attention to detail.

The sitting area has a 2 seater sofa, an attractive window seat which looks out onto the patio and old aljibe (or water store, it's like a ceramic well). The small kitchen/dining area is well equipped and has a microwave, a 2 ring hob, a dishwasher, larder fridge with small icebox, washing machine and dining table for 2. Please note there is no oven.

The bedroom is a good size with a double bed, large wardrobe and dressing table. The beams, alcoves and ancient window provide plenty of character. The bedroom looks onto the small back garden. It's rather lovely lying in bed and looking out at the pomegranate tree as the sun floods in in the morning...

The bathroom has yet more beams, a bath with overhead shower and also looks onto the central patio (frosted glass maintains your privacy!).

The apartment has low consumption heating panels which keep it very cosy in winter. In summer it is the cool due to the 50 cm thick old walls and being at the bottom of the house. We also have fans if they are needed - although they rarely are. Free wifi is available. (Please note the wifi works in the sitting/kitchen area and the patio but doesn't reach the bedroom.)

Outside is a small patio with lots of plants and a table and chairs for outside dining.

We lived in the apartment ourselves for a year whilst we were restoring the rest of the house. We thoroughly enjoyed living there and we hope it has the feel of a home rather than simply a holiday facility. We hope that you enjoy it too!

One thing to note is that the photos were done by the Airbnb photographer. We think they are lovely but they do make the space look rather larger and lighter than it is.

You enter the house through a "zaguan" - an attractive foyer with bench and plenty of cushions. You then come into the patio which has a 15th century carved wooden gallery above (you don't have access to this I'm afraid, but it's very nice to look at!). Across the patio you enter your own apartment which is separate from the rest of the house. The patio is for your use only although the hosts (a couple) pass through to get to the front door. We also have a small patio garden at the back which you share with your hosts.

Please note that from mid Jan to mid Sept 2016 we (John and Anna) will be in the UK. We'll be taking our pets with us too - sorry animal lovers.
You'll be hosted instead by a lovely Italian couple called Sandy & Livio. They will be staying in the house on the floor above and are happy to help out with any queries you might have - or to leave you alone if you prefer your privacy.
John and I are also available by email or phone for any questions or concerns - or if you just want to tell us what a great stay you've had! :)

The Albaicin is a world heritage site. It is fantastic historic quarter made up of little higgledy-piggledy streets and attractive squares with lots of places to eat and drink. Nearby there are lovely views of the Alhambra. Practical things like banks, supermarkets, chemists etc are all 5 minutes walk away.
Granada centre is a 15-20 minute walk (there are lots of different routes and they are all attractive) or a 10 minute bus ride.
We are a 5 minute walk from Sacromonte - a fascinating area of cave houses and flamenco.

There are very regular small buses that come from the town centre. They are fun to catch to see how the bus drivers manage in the narrow streets. We tend to walk into town and get the bus back (uphill!)

Parking is tricky in the Albaicin as the streets are so narrow. It is easiest to park on the edge of the Albaicin (near the Fajalauza ceramic factory). It's a 7 minute walk from there to our place.

There is no need to have a car to explore Granada itself. It is very appealing to stroll, the buses are regular and the taxis reasonable. A car does come into its own if you want to go further afield. For example, it's 1 hour to the coast (we recommend Salobreña), 45 minutes to the Sierra Nevada national park (for mountains, ski-ing, hiking etc) and 20 minutes to the Sierra de Huetor natural park (we love going hiking there as we often have it to ourselves). Please ask us about things to do in the area. We are still finding new things to do and we've been here over 10 years...

We recommend that you BUY YOUR ALHAMBRA TICKETS IN ADVANCE as they sell out quite often.
Bring comfortable shoes (the Albaicin has cobbles) and your swimsuit - the Arab baths are a must!

Règlement intérieur
Non fumeur

L'heure d'entrée dans les lieux est 15:00 - 22:00.

In general we're pretty easy going… and we hope that you have a great stay and enjoy Granada as much as we do.
Please don't smoke inside - there is a covered area outside.
We try to be flexible about check in and check out times and we can certainly keep luggage until your departure time.
