This beautiful Mini House is a 285 sq. ft. guest cottage with a sleeping loft. It is an open, light, peaceful and private retreat perfect for up to 3 people. Guests experience a peaceful feeling of comfort, simplicity and beauty, and consistently feel that they are having a true retreat in their own private oasis. This is a peaceful and relaxing place that delights the senses. The house is designed to stay cool in the mild Seattle summers, and cozy and warm in the winters. It is tucked away toward the back portion of the property with it's own private back patio and yard space. During the day the space fills with light. The windows are strategically placed to keep the space feeling open, but provide privacy from the main house that is located in the front portion of the property.
The Mini House is conveniently located just 6.5 miles from the heart of downtown Seattle.
The house features a cozy sleeping loft that is reached by an old ship ladder (indoor slippers are provided for climbing the ladder for guests with extra tender feet), with windows that let in the fresh air and look out onto a sunrise over the Cascade Mountain Range. French doors that open out onto a private back patio with a garden, fruit trees and a beautiful red Japanese Maple tree, outdoor cafe table and chairs, and a soaking tub with a hand held shower in a large, stylish bathroom.
The Mini House was originally a little shack of a garage that Seattle artist, welder and designer Michelle de la Vega designed and built in 2006 and lived in for 5 years. The result was a personal and unique environment made with many found elements, custom made fixtures and salvaged industrial materials.
The house has been featured in the New York Times, MORE Magazine, Western Australian magazine Scoop Homes and Art, several high profile design blogs, to televisions shows, as well as Terrance Conran’s book How to Live in Small Spaces and Joanne Palmisano's book Salvage Secrets. It will also be featured in the April 2013 issue of L'Uomo Vogue.

Please call the owner at your arranged check in time (4pm unless otherwise arranged) to access the key and take a brief walk through over the phone. This system works very well!

I interact with my guests by phone, email or text. For anything pressing I ask guests to call or text and I respond within an hour (but usually sooner). I appreciate communication!

The neighborhood is urban residential, and multi-cultural. There is quick and easy access to both I5 and Hwy 99 - a rarity in Seattle! The house is close to town, but guests feel like they get to come back to a peaceful retreat after a busy day of touring.

Bus line 2 blocks away.

Smoking is allowed outside. Please dispose of evidence in an outside trash facility.

Wood burning stove: The wood burning stove can only be used during the months of October – March. No exceptions.

Michelle was a great communicator and very welcoming. She described lots of details that were useful in operating things during my stay. The Tiny House is a well-planned space with tons of artistic thought put into it. The steel rungs on the ladder are pretty tough on middle-of-the-night feet, so avoid drinking a bunch of anything before you hit the sack in the cozy loft! Tub is comfortable and the sprayer is easy to use, but if you are used to showering only, it may be a challenge. Relatively close to both the airport and downtown. told me it was closer to where I needed to be, unfortunately. $20+ Lyft rides to Pioneer Square were the norm, and it was $18 to the airport.

My boyfriend and I loved our time in this charming micro home! It had everything we needed and more (loved the garden...wish we had spent more time in it). Michelle was there to happily greet us and was easy to reach if we had any questions. Going up and down the ladder to the loft bed took some care but we got used to it. We rented a car and zipped in and out of the city pretty quickly (15 mins). Great place to stay outside of the city just know that there in not much to do in the immediate neighborhood but you will definitely get some peace and quiet. Thanks michelle!

What a wonderful stay my daughter, son in-law and I had at the Mini House! Michelle was the perfect hostess and she offered us a lovely time in her little home by the garden. The house was just big enough for the three of us and it offered every convenience that was needed to make us feel at home for our time in Seattle. The house is not far from the downtown area and very close to shopping and great restaurants. We did not do any cooking, but the little kitchen offered all one needed to make a meal. The beds were very comfortable and the ladder to the loft was an easy climb. The bathroom was a haven for relaxing in the bath or for privacy when getting dressed. It truly was the best and I recommend it to anyone who likes to enjoy the feelings of home when away. I will absolutely be back, thanks so much Michelle for making our 4 night stay in the Emerald City so easy and affordable.... also for the plums off of your plum tree... they were the best!!!!

Michele was good about orienting the guest to the space. She was initially responsive and polite and then less so as time went on (I stayed for two weeks). The space was a lovely space. The listing was mostly accurate. I can recommend it for shorter stays but I would not recommend this listing for a longer term stay especially with children. In order to accommodate a longer term guest I would recommend additional change of sheets, clean sponges, and cleaning supplies. The stove is a little hard to cook on especially for a family of three for for long term use as it is a camping stove which does not get to a full enough flame to boil water without a lid. Also the host lives very close to the property and because of this make comments about how she wants the space used so it does not feel private. This would most likely not be an issue with shorter term stays. It is a fine and lovely space for shorter term use.

My wife and I stayed at the Mini House and had a relaxing stay. Michelle is a great host. She has taken everything into account for your stay and is extremely helpful. The Mini House has personality with its design and is also very functional. The location gives you easy access to the highway and downtown Seattle. We were very happy to find the Mini House.

I'm an artist designer and welder living in Seattle. I designed, built and remodeled the Artisan Oasis property and now live around the corner in a 1959 view house my husband and I remodeled together. We have a workshop and welding shop there as well! I love the neighborhood because it's close to down town, multicultural, and is one of the highest points in the city. I love being up on a hill and having easy access to so many great resources!
