Very private 2 bedroom riverfront cabin to get away from it all. Have Directv Satellite w/ pay channels, Internet, radio and the sound of the river and the occasional cow mooing in the background. No phone. Great chance to just get away and unplug.

We now have Wireless High Speed Internet and Directv with pay channels. This is a small 625 square foot cabin with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath located on the North Fork Holston River in Mendota, VA, just on the north side of Bristol, VA. One bedroom has a bunk bed with a full size bottom bunk and a twin size top bunk. Suitable to sleep three. The other bedroom has a queen sized bed. Suitable to sleep 2. Living room with one couch and chair. Full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishware, and cooking utensils. Kitchen table to seat 4. Picnic table on the porch, just outside the kitchen. Currently there is no land line. There is directv satellite tv with all the premium channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc.) and music channels, High Speed Satellite Internet, along with a DVD Player. The only cellular signal that works out here is through Verizon. So if you come, you are coming to RELAX and Unplug!

There is over a mile of river frontage. You can sit on the front porch and enjoy the sounds of the river, while being secluded on this private farm. Relax and read a book, or break out the swimming gear and rafts or tubes and go for a tube ride from one end of the property to the other. We have 3 tubes and a canoe available to use. Or you can go a mile or so up the street to Adventure Mendota (a(URL HIDDEN) and rent their tubes or kayaks. They even include drop off and pick up as well right from their property. Either way you can float down the North Fork River which is a Class 1 very slow river. Great for easy going floating.

The property is hidden over a ridge, so when you come up the driveway and crest the hill, you are pleasantly surprised at the phenomenal view. Total privacy since the cabin is just off the river and well off of the road so you will never see a passer-by unless someone passes by in a canoe, raft or kayak.

This is an active cattle farm, so there are cows and care takers on the property. You will probably never see the caretakers, but they are there in a house located at the center of the property. You can not even see their home from your cabin. During the spring, summer and fall, you can enjoy most of the river frontage without being disturbed by the wondering cattle. There are a few areas where the cattle roam free so you will want to drive through those areas. You can drive from one end of the property to the other and have picnics, relax in the river, on the front porch or under a tree. The cattle are fenced off away from the cabin to keep them from coming right up to you or your vehicle. They are cattle, not pets, so please do not attempt to pet or feed them. Enjoy their beauty and company from a distance. A majority of the river frontage is free from cattle, so you will be able to enjoy and explore most of the frontage. We will be available for a tour to show you all the areas of the property you can enjoy and explore freely.

The cabin is located in a private location on the property with mountain long range views. The views from all areas of the property are just phenomenal. There is even a 'beach' where you can go and easily lounge around by the river. Have a picnic under the massive trees offering shade. Run around in the hay fields. Go tubing or canoeing, or just sit back and listen to the river passing by.

We are located about 45 minutes from the Bristol Motor Speedway and
30 minutes to Abingdon. Downtown Bristol is approximately 35 minutes. The closest mall is about 35 minutes away in Bristol. Bass Pro shops is about 30 minutes from the cabin along with the new Pinnacle Shopping area/mall. The nearest convenience store is about 15-20 minutes drive. Walmart and grocery stores are about 30 minutes drive for all your grocery and miscellaneous needs.

This cabin is small and is best suited for 4-5 people to be comfortable. There is a shower (no tub, but the head is detachable for smaller children), sink, vanity in the bathroom. Linens, towels, sheets and blankets are provided. There is a 'micro' sized washer and dryer. The driveway is dirt/gravel off of the main road. I do not recommend sports cars (i.e. Corvette sized vehicles, super low vehicles not recommended) to drive on these roads. If you come in the winter months, you should have a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

You can feel free to open the windows to enjoy the fresh air, or there is a wall unit air conditioner in the kitchen/living/dining area if it gets too warm. There is a ceiling fan in the queen sized room (not in the bunk bed room). In the winter, there is a gas log fire place in the living room to enjoy.
If you have questions, please feel free to call or email.

The entire cabin is yours for your stay. There is a caretakers house on the property that you do not have access too. But you can feel free to roam about the entire property. Walk all along the river frontage (there is over a mile). There are several areas along the river that make great camping or picnicking areas. There are quite a lot of areas not accessed by the cows along the river so you do not have to worry about them accompanying you on your picnic. It is best accessed by driving when you have to carry things such as picnic items, or rafts and such. To get to these areas, a truck, SUV or crossover vehicle is recommended. You can do it by car, but not a low riding or sports car. With a mile of river frontage, you have plenty of room to walk! You are welcome to bring your own 4-wheelers or off-road vehicles for use on the property. There is plenty of room to park trailers and drive around, if that is what you are interested in doing, but it is not necessary to enjoy all the beautiful areas of the property. You could easily walk the river as well. If you come in the winter months, you should come with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. This property is not wheel chair accessible.

I try to keep my interaction with guests to a minimum, if at all while you are here. It is your vacation, you enjoy it. If you want me to show you around, I would be happy to. I leave a map of the property and some instructions. Sometimes it is easier if I show you, but if you can easily read the map, have at it. The property is set up in such a way that it is so private and you would not find a way to trespass on to neighbors properties because there is no way to (not easily anyways). I can offer as much interaction as you would like or I can leave you alone just as well. I start off just leaving you alone, when you want my help, ask and I will be there.

There are rocking chairs and a picnic table on the front porch overlooking the river. Warning: it will put you to sleep! The sound of the river is so relaxing. You can sit in the rocking chairs and just relax and read a book. Open the windows to enjoy the fresh air and hear the sounds of the river from the inside. The best place to visit on the property is the bottom land across the hay fields on the river where we call 'the beach'. There are magnificent shade trees lining the river where you can sit and relax or wade in the river, or bring a blanket to have a picnic.

We fell in love with this property because of the view as you crest over the ridge from the entrance. It is total privacy and seclusion. Phenomenal views from many areas of the property, all of which are easily accessible. The property had been a cattle farm in the same family for 3 generations when we purchased it. We felt we were purchasing a piece of history as well as a gorgeous place to come and relax and enjoy what this area has to offer while still maintaining it as a working cattle farm. You are out in the mountains for privacy, but not too far from town for when you want to go shopping, out to eat, or need the usual grocery items. The cabin is simple with the necessities for a lovely stay, but we will be adding upgrades as time goes on both inside and out. So, even though you will enjoy your stay, each time you come back, it will get better and better!

My husband and I visited the Carter Family Fold and this cabin is in a perfect location for that. It's just about 12 minutes down the road. It was very clean and had essentials like towels, shampoo, coffee and tea. Super quiet except for the sound of the nearby river. We loved it.

Absolutely perfect little cabin for our weekend adventure. Listening to the river while enjoying the view of the farm was so relaxing. We loved our time spent here with the cows. Teresa was an awesome host and we hope to stay again sometime.

The cabin was beautiful and so homey. Waking up and seeing the river and the mountains was amazing. This cabin had everything we needed and were looking for. The porch was huge, the couch comfy and the view is breathtaking! Myself and friends are already talking about coming back! Loved it

My husband and I stayed here, so we could go to the Carter Fold to celebrate our anniversary. It was really convenient to the Fold. We didn't venture out, because we didn't want to miss out on the peacefulness of the entire place. It was amazingly quiet and a wonderful place to spend time away from children! We talked about bringing the kids back another time so they could tube down the river and play on the farm.

Hi Nikki, Thanks for the nice review. I agree on the fire pit! It just makes me nervous that some people may not be careful. Although it would make a nice touch for sure, I will still think about it. Thanks for staying with us. I hope you return in the future! You're kids will love it too.

We had a great experience! Teresa is a very well organized host, providing the necessary information to make the most of your stay. We appreciated being left alone to enjoy the cabin but also knowing that we could ask for more help or hands-on care if needed. The cabin was very well maintained and appointed. For a relaxing stay in the country, I would highly recommend!

This little cabin was exactly the respite we needed! It is very remote, so expect to do a lot of driving if you don't plan to hang out on the property. I would recommend arriving before dark (that was our plan, but then we took a 5 hour unplanned hike at 3 pm on our way down, so we arrived at 11 and it felt a little harrowing, but we did it in a honda hybrid!). Cabin is not fancy, but has all the amenities you might need. Loved being on a working farm and seeing the dogs herd the cattle.

Hi Caitlin, Thanks for the great review. I can't believe you showed up that late. Brave! But you found it in the dark, good for you! And in a Honda Hybrid, I'm impressed! Thanks for coming!!!

We absolutely loved our stay in the cabin! It was very clean and had everything we needed. The kids loved playing in the river and floating down on the tubes. We would definitely come back. It was a great weekend get away!

We live locally. We like to leave people alone when at our cabin. We leave you the keys and leave. We believe people want to have their own vacation. But we are always available to advise on good places to go, eat, recreate, or show around our property.
