Our favorite part about our stay at Gusti's Guesthouse: generous portions of fresh fruit every morning, having such a large space to relax in, and coming home every evening after dinner to see that Ayu had made up the bed and left a lamp on for us. Both Gusti and his wife, Ayu, were nothing but welcoming hosts.

We stayed at Gusti's villa for 4 days -- the place looked just like the pictures and in day light reality its beautiful! Gusti is a warm host, ever ready to help -- We had requested for a airport pickup which he gladly obliged even though the flight was very late (midnight). His wife Ayu came in and made breakfast every morning -- they were very flexible with the time - limited choice but good breakfast to get started your day. Gusti also arranged for a motorbike (150cc -- you need it to drive up the hills) immediately with 2 helmets. One of the days it rained heavily and he also gave us a good poncho. The place is a 15 drive to the ubud center -- we loved driving through the paddy fields in the ups and downs. This villa is in a rustic village setting -- we get to hear the cocks crowing all thru the day and in the nights the dogs bark and howl -- we enjoyed and it added to the village experience -- if you are a light sleeper, you might want to take note of that. Gusti also gave us an extra fan and few electrical adaptors for charging our phones. One of the days, he took us around to see the rice terrace, the elephant safari and tirta ampul. He also had very good recommendations for food (try Bali Bunda) and places to visit ( the Kampto Lampowaterfall, the Kechak dance ) and helped coordinating the cultural classes (classical painting and batik) that we took at the muesum. All in all, very helpful and a great place for a calm and peaceful vacation! I highly recommend his villa!

Gusti and Ayu are well-deserving of their superhost status. Friendly, fast communication and a real attention to detail were hallmarks of their stellar service. They even welcomed us into their family compound and taught us a lot about Balinese culture. Ayu (Gusti's wife) was such a sweet, daily presence (while never being intrusive), coming by to cook us delicious breakfasts and cleaning the house daily while we were out. She even turned on the outside lights for us in the evenings so we didn't have to come home in the dark. The villa itself is so charming and spacious, with tall ceilings and a unique outdoor bathroom. The gardens are gorgeous and it really feels like a private home. Good wifi, a nice kitchen, and multiple areas for reading, working, eating and relaxing are available. This is not your standard cramped hotel room. Some downsides: The villa is 15 mins by scooter from Ubud. A chorus of animals can be heard just before sunrise. Roosters, dogs, geckos, pigs, ducks, insects... it took a few days to sleep through the ruckus, but once I acclimatized it was totally fine and I slept like a baby. This is probably true of most stays in Ubud, I wouldn't let it put you off staying here. Just bring ear plugs! I would definitely recommend this place. Gusti and Ayu are wonderful hosts, the villa is very lovely and it felt like a home away from home.

Gusti and his wife were incredibly kind and accommodating. They treated me like a special guest and checked in regularly to see that I had everything that I needed. I unfortunately was ill while I was staying at the house, and they made sure I was comfortable, and food and took me to the pharmacy.

I stayed in this place for several days. The hosts are mostly welkome and helpful. It was really a pleasure to comunocate. The house is wonderful. You can really feel real Bali in there. I even didn't want to get out. The saroundings are lovely and beautiful. Temples and rice fields. You can even have a walk around. Location is fine. Gusti can always take you to Ubud and pick up from there. Andit is much cheaper than taxi. Also he can organize an excursions to some interesting places. That was really good.

I have had many exceptional airbnb experiences, but this was the first time I had stayed with the same host twice. It was mainly due to fine service and facilities, but I also wanted to experience Kuningan with a host that I already knew. It was a real cultural immersion and an excellent research for my book. The day after I arrived, Banjar Sembuwuk hosted the post-Galungan Barong procession, so Ayu brought me along, with their adorable little boy, Ngurah. I also had fun following the Barong anak-anak when they performed from house to house in neighbouring villages. At dawn on Kuningan eve, I watched pigs slaughtering nearby and how the neighbourhood men divided the meat to more than 20 families. Gusti's mother and Ayu showed me offerings preparations for the big day. I also got to celebrate Kuningan with Gusti's family. His father was knowledgeable and took time to answer all my questions on Balinese Hinduism practices. Ida Bagus Anom Gangga whom Gusti arranged to teach me Bahasa Bali was also insightful and informative. His language approach was practical to suit my needs, and he gave interesting historical and spiritual leads for my research. Made Arta, the driver that Gusti arranged, took me to locally-priced shopping spots as I needed to buy ceremonial sarong. He also recommended that I interview Jero Dalang Sija in Blahbatuh. The internationally-known senior puppeteer invited me to their temple odalan with sacred and entertainment performances, which was the highlight of my trip. There are some areas of improvements though. The driver assigned to take me to the odalan, Gusti's cousin, could have been better briefed on my requirements. He gave me some wrong information and I had to ask people at the ceremony myself to know what was happening. There was also some misinformation on Pura Desa Pejeng ceremony on Umanis Kuningan where Gusti had asked me to get ready at 9.00am. However, he told me that the ceremony was already over when he picked me up the next morning. That was disappointing. I would also recommend that the host consider offering more variety for breakfast. In addition to bubur injin, perhaps other local delicacies can be added to the breakfast menu. (There is no nearby cafe, so it was good that a local has returned from Italy and opened an Italian cafe, Warung Damuh. The owner even assured me that she could serve halal meat if I informed her in advance.) Overall, it was another great trip. I hope the few things I mentioned could be looked into for me to consider a third stay. I also hope I could join the community's laughing and shaking Yoga organised by Gusti's elder sister next time. She was delightful to talk to. Thanks again, Gusti and family!

We loved our stay at Gusti's place! He, his wife Ayu and neighbour/driver Made are all super friendly and great to chat with, eager to share their culture and the interesting facts about the village and Bali life. Ayu made us breakfast each day and it was delicious. The house itself is beautiful, spacious and very private with a lovely, well kept garden. We're glad we stayed in Sembuwuk village as opposed to Ubud centre, as it's much more peaceful and authentic (although you will hear roosters and dogs all day!) We couldn't ride motorcycles so we needed a lift to Ubud centre (10mins) and back, which Gusti was always happy to provide. I'd recommend anyone wanting to see Ubud but not wanting to stay in a tourist zone to stay here :)

Dear Ubud visitors,

I am happy to offer you several rental properties, which I manage.

Here is my story. Born in 1974, I was one of the first employees of Roda Internet Cafe, the first of its kind in Bali. From that experience, and daily contact with tourists from all over the world I learned my English and a bit of other languages as well. I also became proficient at computers.

Eight years ago I began my present career as tour guide and driver and really enjoy getting to know guests from many countries and showing them my beautiful island.

Last year, I built a beautiful villa, from an old Javanese house, on my family land, where I live next door with my parents, sister, wife and 4 children.

Now we are managing two more villas on Jl. Sri Wedari in Tegal Lantang, Ubud. Please check all our listings to see which fits your needs best.

We can recommendations restaurants, massage and other health options, yoga, cooking classes, and whatever else you are interested in.

My friend Sue and I will do our best to make your stay unforgettable.

Gusti
