This location could not have been more perfect for what I needed in Chicago. I had two jobs that were both 10-20 minutes walking distance, and it was very close to the brown line and two bus stops, which allowed to get me to just about anywhere in the city I needed. I never had any problems at any time of day/night with the neighborhood and never felt unsafe. There were plenty of great places to go out to eat, as well as a grocery store and several convenience stores only a 5 minute walk away. The living space was minimal but definitely livable. There were occasional home improvement projects, but I was always given plenty of notice and they didn't interfere with my daily life. I definitely over packed for my stay; the place is fully furnished and you can certainly live here for an extended amount of time with just a suitcase or two. (Bonus: the yard/garden is beautiful.) Angela was one of the most pleasant hosts I've ever stayed with. I had all the privacy I wanted, but she was always willing to come quickly if I needed her. She answered any question/email/call I had very promptly and was always helpful. She's also just a great person to sit down for a cup of coffee with and have a conversation. If I hadn't moved away from Chicago for school, I definitely would have stayed here longer.

I've spent 4 months in Angela's basement, and I really felt at home! Everything was furnished: microwave, cooktop, toaster oven, coffee machine, kettle, free washer and dryer, ... I didn't need to buy anything. The thing that I prefered is that you have your privacy, with your own entrance, your private bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. The wifi worked well, I never had any problem with it and I've been able to work on my classes easily, with plenty of space. You really feel at home. Don't be scared by the word "basement": it's really luminous and you feel like in your own studio apartment. Sincerely, the place was better than I expected. Moreover, the house is very close to grocery stores and public transportation: the Brown line is less than 10min walk, and the Montrose bus less than 1min walk. As regards Angela, she's probably the best host ever! She is really a kind person, attentive and present. She will help you if you need it, giving you advice about the area, grocery stores etc. If you can, go see her playing Cajun music with her band, it's awesome! I highly recommend staying with Angela, and I would stay here again ! Thank you Angela!

I have spent two awesome months in Chicago, and it was in part thanks to this place. Location: The house is in a calm area, close to multiple grocery stores and minutes away (8-10 of mins. of walking) from the Brown Line that will take you to the Loop. Taking the #78 bus to the Montrose station is another way you can get to the Brown Line. The area is kind of diverse, hosting people of different ethnicities, and giving you options for food and dining. I had no problems with the neighbors; late night noises were practically absent. Finally, I haven't had any problems in the area and I don't remember witnessing anything alerting. Amenities: Everything was as described. If you are looking for an accommodation with plenty of privacy yet cannot afford an own place, this will probably work. Besides the suite and a private bathroom, there is also a kitchenette that will meet the cooking needs of most people, a mini-fridge that surprisingly stores more than you could imagine at first (yet making you shop frequently enough to always have fresh groceries), washer and dryer available for use, and a separate entrance. The host: Angela was quite responsive and friendly. She knows the area and can provide with helpful tips. Her availability for questions and potential issue discussion is great, and from time to time she checks the area to make sure things are all right. In sum, I can say I felt quite comfortable at this place, and if at some point I had an option to stay there again, I would probably do so.

My stay with Angela was honestly fantastic. I couldn't have found a better situation for my needs: public transportation was readily accessible, the neighborhood was lovely and full of dogs and families, and Angela was an angel. She was always attentive and present, considerate, and just a really fabulous person all around. She is so fun to be around and you'd better go see her Cajun band, Hey Chere, play sometime! I spent many great evenings with Angela and her lovely band members who introduced me to such a cool and unique music scene in Chicago. The apartment was exactly as described in the posting, and really perfect for one person. It is in a sunny garden level, has a basic kitchen, private bathroom, and is on the same level as the washer and dryer (super convenient!) The other women who live/stayed in the house were all incredibly nice and considerate people. As far as transportation, I was at Angela's for about 9 months (even through the winter) and never had/needed a car. There is a bus stop at the end of the block on a major bus line that runs down Montrose and connects with brown, blue, and red train lines that go downtown and/or to O'hare. Additionally, there are two brown line stops within walking distance from the house (about a ten minute walk.) And, as always, Uber and Lyft were always reliable in this area. I highly recommend staying with Angela in this quiet, safe neighborhood, and I would easily stay again!

I lived in Angela's home for a month a half, and even though her home was undergoing renovations for a majority of my stay, her accommodation is perfect for a long term stay. Living in her home's basement provides the right amount of privacy and convenience since you will have your own entrance; kitchen with dishes, mini fridge/freezer,small stove, toaster oven, and microwave; bedroom with bed and couch; bathroom; and the easiest access to her FREE washer and dryer. I felt safer and more comfortable walking home late at night in this neighborhood than neighborhoods near the lake since Albany Park is family friendly and diverse. Grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and public transit are all within walking distance. And Angela is a sweetheart who was always available regarding any questions or concerns. Whenever I received mail, she would let me know or even leave it near my room. I would definitely stay here again for the great price, privacy, convenience and safety.

The place was perfect. I couldn't have felt more at home. The basement is so spacious and cool and you have everything you need. The kitchen Is great, I had everything I needed to cool 3 meals a day in. The bedroom is so comfy and the temperature was always great. There is a lovely garden with chickens in that I was able to relax in as well. The house is also in an extremely handy location. Just 7 minute walk from the brown line which takes you straight into the loop and plenty of food stored and great restaurants around. Angie was a great host, very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Highly recommended

This is a great choice for a stay. The privacy is high but when you do meet someone else from the house they're low-key and courteous. The walk to the train is pleasant, the neighborhood friendly, and there's a lot of character around Angela's house in particular, with a great garden and resident chickens and interesting old photos. Don't let 'basement' put you off: there's tons of light coming into the two private rooms (so much so that I recommend bringing an eye shade so you can sleep in if you want). Angela has set up a very functional kitchen, stocked it well with dishes and even coffee/tea-wise, and greets you with a cup of tea and a sit down chat. Also the water pressure in the shower is great: always a selling point for me. My only caution and it's a tiny one is that it's not always quiet: the next-door neighbors are of the play your radio loud enough to reach the street where you're working on your car variety, and the first floor tenants don't seem to have carpeting. This was an issue for me sometimes because I was working from 'home' trying to meet some writing deadlines and (mainly) because I have a sound sensitivity: for the mass of humanity, and for anyone who won't be around during the day, it's not an issue. Super price for the value, generous and warm host.
