Decided to stop here as an alternative to the Red Roof in on my drive up to NY. Wow, does it beat the Red Roof in. Beautiful wooded paths, horses to love on, a wonderful bed and a great breakfast. It will be my new go to place when I need to stop. Looking forward to the pool in the summer.

Very quaint and lovely farm with absolutely breathtaking scenery all around. Easy to get to from I-81 for any passerbys who need a nice respite from traveling. The place had a real wonderful sense of community, with the horses, the pool, and a delicious home cooked breakfast drawing people together.

This is a lovely location for a Bed & Breakfast. It is out in the middle of nowhere (some of us like that!), among the rolling hills of the Virginia countryside. There are TONS of amenities, including a pool, hot tub, billiards/TV room, fire pit, tennis court, hiking trails, and access to a small lake. If you want to get away, this is the place to do it. The host was super accommodating--letting us check in early to enjoy the space longer (since we were only there for one night) and allowing us to pay for our children (who had not stayed the night with us) to join us for breakfast. And, as everyone else has said, the breakfast is really amazing. One source of frustration/disappointment is that there was no one to check us in, and we were kind of left to ourselves. We had no idea where anything was or where we were allowed to be and not be. We only found the breakfast room because someone left the door open and I curiously poked my head in. Also, the hot tub was closed for renovation. It would have been nice to know this ahead of time. Still, it was a lovely place, and I could easily be persuaded to visit again.

Our stay at the Bed Breakfast at Penmerryl Farm was very relaxing. We stayed in the lodge but there are cabins. It has the old country feel. Very cute and simple. There is a pool , fire ring, hot tub , tennis courts , lake and trails to walk on. The breakfast was very delicious and everyone was very friendly. There is so much to see around the area we will definitely be back. We are excited to spend a little more time on the next trip. Thank you for your hospitality !

First I want to say that we had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at the farm. We really enjoyed the beautiful location, canoes, and excellent breakfast. A couple things to note though... The listing shows 2 lakes but really the property only has 1 (the same one). But we didn't know this until after putting our kayak on the larger one and being kicked off. Also, the grill did not work properly. Either it was almost out of propane or just not working well. It took everyone a very long time to cook our dinner and so there was a wait and we didn't eat until very late. Lastly, we were hoping to ride the horses like the listing mentions. I contacted the host weeks in advance, twice, and never got a response. Finally I asked again a couple days before and got a response that the horses were privately owned and we couldn't ride. So I wouldn't plan on visiting the farm and planning on riding horses. Still a lovely place and the smaller lake was well stocked for fishing. Just wanted to mention the inaccuracies in the listing.

We were there for our nephew's VMI graduation. The area is beautiful, and Penmerryl is a wonderful slice of heaven. Located far from any hustle and bustle, we enjoyed the peace and quiet it provided.

My husband, Ken, and I have raised our children here at Penmerryl and really enjoy sharing this wonderful place with others. We love to meet and host new people from all walks of life and all parts of the globe. I cook for and take care of my guests just like my family. I am originally from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and Ken is from London, England. We spent 7 years living on a boat and sailing before coming ashore to raise our family.

And now that time has come to step back a little from Penmerryl and go back to the sea for a while, and we are so happy to introduce to you our new Co-host here at Penmerryl, Gammon Castellvi. Gammon is originally from Venezuela and so is fluent in Spanish. She is also a fabulous cook and will take excellent care of guests at breakfast! Another huge plus in having Gammon on board is that she is an accomplished Equestrienne, with years of horse experience and the ability to share her knowledge with guests.

This is a working horse farm. Enjoy the barns and visiting the horses. Our horses are competition horses and are frequently at shows. See how a horse farm operates! Horseback riding lessons can be arranged if an instructor is on site and is available. Most weekends we are competing!
