Description

Spacious and quaint ground floor 1 BR with exposed brick in the heart of East Village. Big windows and quiet street. The sofa bed acts as an extra full-sized bed. Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen, terrace, and proximity to the park.

Our ground floor apartment, which you will have all to yourself, includes a separate living room and bedroom (not a studio!). Our pull-out full-size sofa bed is very comfortable and will not break your back. We also have a queen-sized bed in the bedroom so we can comfortably accommodate four people, if willing to share beds. We will clear out some closet space for you and we have a small, but fully stocked kitchen. You are welcome to any of our books or games. We do not have cable, but we do have Apple TV if you want to watch Netflix or plug in your computer. You can also use our espresso machine or French press for your morning coffee.

Note: We only have air conditioning in the bedroom, not the living room, which only has a fan. In the summer months, we recommend parties of 2, unless you are heat resistant :)

We will be available by email and phone if you need help finding anything in the apartment or if you're having any trouble. Please reach out to us before contacting the super. We're also happy to give restaurant/other recommendations in the neighborhood!

The East Village is by far the most vibrant neighborhood of New York City. Jam-packed with unique bars, restaurants, and shops for all budgets, you won't run out of things to do even if you never venture beyond walking distance. Our street itself is pretty quiet and residential though. We live kitty-corner to Tompkins Square Park if you need your fix of greenery.

We are about ten minutes walk from the nearest subways - the L train to the north at 14th Street and 1st Avenue and the F train to the south at Houston and 2nd Avenue.

We have a small non-shedding dog named Joey (who will not be present for the duration of your stay). For weekend stays, if you arrive early on Friday, my boyfriend and Joey will likely be present to let you in and welcome you to the apartment before leaving in the afternoon.
We have a window a/c in the bedroom and a fan in the living room but the bedroom a/c is generally enough to cool the entire apartment if the door is open.
Our toilet flush makes a weird sound which can startle new users :)
The water temperature can fluctuate rapidly so please be careful.
Do not touch the pipes or radiator because they are hot.
There is no elevator in the building, but our place is on the ground level so that shouldn't be an issue.

Feel free to use any kitchen supplies - dishes, toaster, pots, etc - but please don't use metal on non-stick cookware.
The trash chute is in the hallway and the recycling is in the backyard area.
No need to put your sheets away, the cleaning service will take care of it.
Most importantly, please put your keys back in the lockbox when you leave.

We loved the East Village apartment! My girlfriend and I stayed two nights in July and although temperatures were high, we managed to stay cool when necessary. The bedroom has a window unit that keeps that room at a perfect temp for sleeping. The living area got a little stuffy, but we're Floridians so no biggie. The apartment is a decent walk to a metro station so be prepared to do some walking if you plan to use public transit. Overall, loved the place and location. Away from the densely populated touristy areas, but only a few subway stops gets you Uptown or Downtown. The hosts were also very attentive! Easy to speak with and timely. I recommend the place!

Ashika is such a wonderful host. She provided us with great suggestions for the neighborhood and great tips on getting around the city. The East Village is such a fun place with tons of great restaurants, there is something for everyone here. The apartment was exactly as described and very comfortable for our 6 day stay. Ashika even checked in with us a couple of times to make sure we were comfortable and that everything was going alright. We would definitely try to stay at their place again for our next East Village visit. Thanks Ashika!

We enjoyed our stay at Ashika's place. Ashika's boy-friend Ewout was very helpful and gave us a lot of useful information on places to go, things to do etc. The apartment is nice and clean and is very well located in the heart of East village, with easy access to all parts of the city. The only small issue is that the place is a bit cramped especially if you have a lot of luggage like we had.

Ashika's place was perfect! The location is great, 1 minute walk to lots of great restaurants and bars! They were so welcoming and completely accommodating to our needs, I would definately recommend Ashika's place for anyone's New York getaway.

Ashika was very responsive and helpful before we arrived, during our stay, and afterwards. She provided excellent parking, restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. The neighborhood is absolutely lovely. It was quiet, safe, and close to delicious food and attractions. The walk to the subway was reasonable. The apartment itself is clean and exactly as described in her post. We only needed it as a space to sleep, and it comfortably fit 4 adults. I would definitely recommend this apartment to others!

The space is great. Small, as is to be expected in the East Village, but comfortable, and as pictured. It is a bit of a walk to the nearest subway stop (especially with suitcases), but there are a ton of restaurants within a block of the unit, so you shouldn't have to travel far. The only downside to staying here was the pipe in the bedroom that made a lot of noise during the night. It actually woke me up, twice, and I'm typically a heavy sleeper. When I tried to investigate the noise, I actually burned my hand on the scalding pipe - so be careful! All in all, a good stay.

Thanks so much for your review. We will take your feedback into consideration for the future. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the pipe. We live in an old pre-war building where the hot water occasionally results in a pipe noise. This only happens on a few winter nights, depending on weather conditions. We do leave instructions telling guests not to touch the radiator or the hot water pipes (they are all out of the way so accidental contact is unlikely). Almost all old NYC buildings, including restaurants, rely on a similar heating system so do be careful when you visit the city.

My boyfriend and I like to travel and we'd love to have you stay in our homey one bedroom apartment while we're gone. We like to go out for cheap eats and good beer.
