Thank you for your stay with us, we really enjoyed you as guests. In a response to the island being expensive, we do suggest people bring bottled water because it is expensive on the island. We did boil filtered water for you as requested. To explain the cost of things further: We, or other restaurants or shops on Taboga, cannot provide a cheaper source of water and food because everything is imported to the island. We all have to pay shipping and cargo costs to bring to the island. The business owners, even the smallest ones on the beach, have to spend up to $40 for their return ferry day trip to the city, so that gets reflected in the cost of food and drink from the shops and small restaurants. When providers send over cargo in bulk they pay $100 for a small boat to take it to the island.
At our own restaurant we do our best for our customers, we have specials from $8 a plate, and we offer our Cerrito room guests a discount on meals.
So all of these costs add up to 15% to 25% difference in prices between Panama and Taboga Island.
Hope this explanation helped and we do appreciate your comments. Thank you again so much.
