Description

Hi! I'd like to welcome you to my cozy and comfortable private bedroom in a shared apartment. I am located in Washington Heights and an 8-minute walk away from the A, C, & 1 trains, and blocks from the Columbia University Medical Center.

The space is a perfect size for a solo traveller or a couple that want to get away from the prices and noise of downtown Manhattan. It is tucked away near Highbridge park and the Harlem river.
The space has a full bed, shared bathroom, closet space available, a desk and chairs, and shelf space. We've provided throw pillows and blankets for extra comfort on those cold nights. White Christmas lights are strung along the wall for added ambiance. Wick-less scented candles are provided to enhance your visit. The room has a radiator, fan, and hanging space. It is used as a sewing studio when not being occupied by a guest. You're welcome to use the desk space as you please.

Guests can use the kitchen/eating area and it's amenities.

We are in and out of the apartment throughout the day and use the space to relax and unwind. We do our best to keep a warm, quiet, and relaxing environment for ourselves and our guests. We are friendly people and are available for any questions or concerns about your stay.

IMPORTANT: We are not located in downtown NYC, you will have to take a subway to get downtown. If you are going to book our space it is important that you are aware of this so you don't expect that you will be in the middle of it all the moment you step out of our apartment. That being said, Washington Heights is quieter than other Manhattan neighborhoods. It's a convenient location in that it's away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Manhattan. It's only a 20-30 minute subway ride away from Midtown Manhattan and our neighborhood is accessible by three major subway lines (A, C, 1) and public bus service. We recommend that you take the express A train downtown, as it's most often the fastest route. We are right across the street from High Bridge Park (named after the High Bridge, the city's oldest standing bridge), located on the banks of the Harlem River where there are footpaths, basketball courts, and a public pool that is open in the summer. Manhattan's oldest house and George Washington's headquarters during the civil war, Morris-Jumel Mansion, is located at 162nd street, two blocks away. The Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Museum is a 5-minute train ride away, and is not to be missed. The area around 181 and Broadway is a hub for restaurants, shopping, entertainment. And there are local farmer's markets every week when in season. There are plenty of local restaurants and bodegas that serve Latin American cuisine because of the large population of Latin Americans that live in the Heights.

We are conveniently located 7-minutes walking distance from the A, C, and 1 trains. A city bus that will take you downtown is located a block away. From the Laguardia airport our apartment can be reached by taking the M60 bus and transferring to the 1 train at 116th, or the C at 125th, then a few more stops to 168th st. From JFK airport our apartment can be reached by simply: 1. taking the airport's convenient AirTrain service to Federal Circle and then on to Jamaica Station to catch the E train to 42nd st./Port Authority and transfer there to an uptown A train to 168th st., or 2. you can take the Airtrain to Howard Beach Station and take the A train all the way to 168th st., this option takes longer. (If you aren't sure, We recommend asking airport staff about exactly where to catch the A or E train, they are often very helpful). For those entering the city by car, taking the George Washington bridge from New Jersey is a quicker and easier route into the city and to our apartment. If money is not an issue then you can of course take an NYC taxi. They run 24/7 and can be found nearly everywhere. Please note, taxis can be in high demand around busy places like airports.

We are located in a safe neighborhood right next to a daycare on one side and a school on the other.

I stayed with Nile for 14 days and enjoyed my stay. Nile is very nice, made himself available for all my questions and handled inquiries with a sense of urgency. The photos of the room are accurate and Nile made me feel at home. I would recommend his place to anyone traveling to the area. Thanks Nile for being such a nice host :)

The perfect Airbnb experience! Nile gave me a great welcome and loads of useful details on how to get around etc and even facilitated a very last minute extension of my stay. Lovely, clean room, comfortable bed, great location for getting downtown, and great value for money. Only met Nick once but he made the effort to knock on my door and say hello before he went off on a trip. Wish you guys the very best :)

Nile is a professional dancer who has been living in New York City for a little over 7 years. I've seen and done a lot in this city and would love to help recommend things to see and do to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Nile shares the apartment with Nik who is a fellow dancer. They met while at a dance festival many summers ago. Nile enjoys a comfy place to curl up in and call home, food (particularly Chinese and Thai), and dancing like a maniac when not doing it professionally. Nile is learning French and is also learning how to make his own clothing from scratch. Our apartment is also gay friendly.
