I had a family emergency and was trying to book a room near the American hospital. I made several inquiries. Selevekos apartment got back to me relatively quickly offering a room. I then discovered that my existing room was able to extend. I accidentally confirmed Selevekos and then, having realised my mistake, contacted him within less than two minutes to ask to cancel and ask for a refund. Selevekos refused. I then rung him to reason with him and he said he would ring back in 15 minutes. He then refused to take my calls and my messages. I was considering staying in the apartment after all, given I had paid for it. However, he refused to take any of my messages.
I understand that, technically speaking, Selevekos was within his rights to keep the money and not refund. However, it seemed pretty mean and did not fit with the spirit of Airbnb that I am used to. For the last two years I have stayed in many locations in Istanbul, with wonderful hosts, who have been supremely flexible and generous. Clearly Selevekos is not one of them. I am sure that in a routine stay he would be an adequate host, judging by the other comments. But if anything goes wrong, as it did in my case, then you can expect Selevekos to be rude, uncommunicative, inflexible and unreasonable.
Also, frankly speaking, after two years of using Airbnb in Istanbul, I think you can find much better places than this, for a much better price. All in all, I recommend not staying here.
