Gracious host, quiet beach, simple house.

Great.(URL HIDDEN)Our group of three friends stayed at the cottage for two weeks in October. Prior to our arrival, caretaker Bredda coordinated an airport pick-up in Montego Bay and provided real-time updates on the status of Hurricane Matthew. We were to arrive hours after mainstream US news predicted Matthew would hit Jamaica...but it never did. Bredda kept us in the loop via text, and was at the airport to meet us. The property is just as the listing describes. A simple kitchen with all the implements, AC in the bedroom, toilet and indoor/outdoor showers. Bedroom includes a king bed, and a twin bed. In the living area, there are two day beds and a two-seat bar area for breakfast. The porch was a perfect spot with a picnic table and adirondack chair. Sunsets were best viewed from hammocks in either of two tikis. The beach is dark sand, lots of big rocks, and plenty of easy paths into the sea. We spent a lot of time snorkling up and down the coast - lots of small fish, a few schools of bait, and lots of other creatures. Our host, Bredda, was a perfect part of the experience. We did not rent a car, so relied on hired cars or walking to keep supplied. Over the course of two weeks, we ventured out on a couple of boats, and checked out YS Falls. Bredda had our best interests in mind, and connected us with warm and real tour guides. He was graciously available to hook us up with last-minute things, as well. We enjoyed a few meals together. In summary, Avita Villa is ideal for a simple retreat with loved ones or friends to take in the amazing landscape of Jamaica's southern coast and connect with a few good local folks. Stock up on your way from Montego bay, find the women selling fish in Black River, and hit up the market for produce. Couple of recommendations: - Boat from Billy's Bay, up the Black River crabs at the bridge, and to the Pelican Bar is worth the money on a sunny day. Do it. - Islands off of Alligator Pond. Took a boat out to snorkel for a few hours, and then went to Little Ochie's for a great meal. Expect to pay 25 US for a big meal and a few beers. Great day! Do it. -YS Falls. We set out for YS in search of another waterfall that we found out had been closed for a year or so. YS was a last-minute decision. This is a huge destination for bigger hotels and tourists...The falls are beautiful, but it's an attraction that has been built up with stairs and decks, rope swings, restaurants. A solid plan B.

Car, Scooter* or Bicycle* rental is RECOMMENDED- we are 1.2M` / 2Km miles from Treasure Beach’s Village of Billy's Bay - 1 general store & 3 restaurants. **For airport & local taxi service we will assist you. As well as *Rentals car scooter or bicycles by local vendors. ** For car rentals the best deals are at the airport. If don’t lease a car then either you can hire a taxi at the airport to Treasure Beach, or we will arrange for a local driver to pick you at the airport. Local taxi service is available for short and day trips. And you can rent a car, scooter or bicycle locally. An map app is recommended.

Should you stay here? Yes, yes, yes! It is a simple but extravagantly beautiful place. The air conditioner works very well, so you have a comfortable place to retreat to for an afternoon nap. The beach is so wonderful, we took three days just to enjoy the beauty of the different vantage points. Things to make sure you pick up in the city: Dish soap, grocery bags for disposal of garbage, ground coffee, lots of water, snacks and drinks, I bought bread, butter, and cheese so I could make a late night grilled cheese if needed. Bredda helped us with everything we needed. He arranged scooter rentals and boat trips and made sure we didn't miss the favorite coffee place down the road. We ate out or ate leftovers every day. It wasn't too expensive. Every meal we ate was delicious. Try everything, its all wonderful! The people in town are very friendly. We decided to go to church on Sunday, but weren't sure which one to go to. We drove around giving people rides to church until we landed at one that seemed right. This was a great blessing, it gave us a peak into a distinctly different part of Jamaican life and it was beautiful. I recommend it to all. We had an amazing time in our 7 days at Treasure Beach. It's difficult to put our delight into words. There are some adjustments that must be made, as this is not a resort, but once you are used to how they do things, you will fall in love, as we did.

This was one of the best getaways I've had in 10 years. Fred's home is wonderful and secluded but still close enough to town shops and restaurants. This is a mystical place. If you wish to unplug I highly suggest staying here. I have traveled to many many islands and this is by far in the top five experiences I have had. Thank you once again Fred. I look forward to coming back this year. Your new friend, Rudy

You should probably stay here !! I cannot say enough good about Fred's place - the cottage, the beach, the views. I am in love and cannot wait to return. Fred's place was the last stay of my trip and it was exactly what I was looking for in Jamaica - a lovely place with ocean views, ocean access, the sea breeze, walking on the beach any time, sitting on the veranda watching birds. Aaaaaah ! The cottage has a nice kitchen with basics, including some food, there is a nice living space to chill out and the bedroom is spacious with a huge, comfy bed. The veranda is lovely, where you can sit back in the shade, eat breakfast or lunch or dinner :) and watch hummingbirds snack on the flowers nearby. We used the 'Directions' link on the e-mail using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps to find the place and were greeted by Bruddah, the caretaker here. He is pleasant and helpful. He showed us the cottage and chatted a bit. During our stay, he did some laundry for us upon request. Any time that Fred or his guests saw us, they would say hello and ask how we were, but respected our privacy and space also. The Treasure Beach area, to me, is wonderful. It seems like a unique spot on the island. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and a good deal of tourists, but it is quiet and more serene than the more 'popular, touristy' areas in Jamaica. Personally, I love and appreciate this quality. In a fairly short drive, you can find food, including restaurants and markets, but if you want to cook for yourself and want more quality food, I would recommend stopping about an hour out on either side. I say this, because we were shopping for butter and coconut oil and had to drive to Junction to find anything other than margarine or vegetable oil. There are a fair amount of fruit and vegetable vendors though. They had an abundance of watermelons and scallions at this time. Beautiful and for little money. The people here seem pleasant and generous. We happened to stop by Calabash Bay one evening just as the fishermen were coming in, so my partner was able to purchase fresh fish, which he loves and I was able to snap some great pictures of the sun setting and the fishing boats and pots. While we stayed at Fred's place, we also drove out to YS Falls - another aspect of this stay that I love. I highly recommend a visit here. If I were to return, (when I return !) I would pack a picnic and plan to spend a good portion of the day at YS Falls. It is a wonderful spot, rainforest, the falls are gorgeous and there re several areas to relax, swim, and you can swing into the water or ride a zip line (for an extra fee). Oh, the beach at Fred's is amazing - it...
