We spent 5 weeks at Francisco and Ivette’s beautiful beachhouse. It was absolutely magical. Each bedroom is large and very comfortable. There's AC, DISHTV, internet, and more closet space than you could ever imagine.
Incredibly, ALL bedrooms have views of the ocean. The house has sea lavender growing all around it and is 6 steps from the magnificent Gulf of Mexico.
Life is good in Francisco’s house! Every few days, the net fisherman would row up to the house. Our ritual was to wade out a few feet, buy fish, and watch the elder man fillet them right in front of us. The fish was so fresh and tasted incredible, it doesn’t get any more local!
Every day we went for sunrise/sunset beachwalks. We saw a 5ft turtle, starfish, sea urchins, blowfish, horseshoe-crabs, incredible intact seashells, hummingbirds, pelicans, sandpipers… just amazing.
The beach is very quiet and serene. No clubs or pounding music, mostly families enjoying quality-time together.
I felt very safe in the house. A lovely caretaker, Jose, lives next door with his wife and sweet kids. He is always available should you need anything: He gathered fresh coconuts for us, built a bonfire on the beach, and tied up a piñata for the kids to whack. He and his wife can also clean and do laundry.
The house is a 15-minute beachwalk (2-minute drive) to the Technotel Hotel with great food, pools, volleyball, massages etc. It’s a 15-minute drive to Chicxulub for seafood restaurants, bakeries, pharmacies, and small supermarkets. It’s 5 more minutes to Progreso: More hustle and bustle, more tourists, a great Italian restaurant with homemade pasta and bigger supermarkets. Merida is about 40-minutes away: an international city with a great art&music scene. The house is a 5-minute drive to see flamingos and alligators in the marsh, a 15-minute drive to see Mayan ruins and about 2 hours to Chichen Itza, one of the 7 wonders of the world.
Finally, and most importantly, Francisco and Ivette are incredible hosts. It was our first trip with our baby. We arrived to an immaculate, well-stocked house with a crib, high chair, fruit in the fridge, water bottles, and so much more to make us feel at home. Francisco went out of his way to add the amenities for the baby so we didn’t have to drag them with us.
When our baby caught a cold, Francisco's brother, an ENT doctor, was available. When we couldn’t purchase our bustickets online, Francisco went to the busstation and did it for us. When there was an issue with our rental car (make sure you book a car from a company who factors in all insurance/taxes up front – most don’t) Francisco rented us his own car. Francisco was always available, always patient and VERY solution oriented. He made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He and Ivette were so caring and hospitable. We absolutely loved our stay and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for paradise.
