À propos de ce logement
Sow's Ear is a superb place to unwind. 1 minute walk to the Trinity River, end of the road serenity, full use of our river frontage and hot tub. 3 BR, 2 BA, full laundry, wood stove & other heat methods + A/C. Great covered front porch is popular year-round; it affords a bit of a river view and has lovely river sounds. Lodging tax is 5% of the lodging portion and is paid when here. Dogs welcome (extra fee per dog). Cancellation policy is 30 days.
Sow's Ear is priced for 6 guests. We will consider 2 more guests, but there is an extra fee for them. Lodging tax and pet fees (if you bring dogs) aren't accommodated in AIR's set-up, so you can pay those fees when you're here. Rates are subject to change for holidays and weekly discounts do not apply July through August 15th.
Sow's Ear is a wonderful, pet-friendly, easy-access cabin at the end of the road, less than a minute's walk to the Trinity, with full use of the 600+ feet of shady shoreline, the hot tub overlooking the river and the hammered copper fire pit overlooking the river. It is easy access (just 3 miles from 299) and incredibly quiet. All you hear is the river, along with crickets, frogs and birds. There is great hiking right outside your door.
This cabin has 3 full bedrooms and two baths. The master bedroom has a handcrafted queen log bed, private bath with shower and sliders out to the honeysuckle-draped porch. The second bedroom has a handmade double log bed. The third bedroom is completely paneled in soft, tongue and groove cedar; it has a queen mahogany sleigh bed, plus substantial, stacked bunk beds strong enough for adults. The second bath has a tub with shower.
There is a very pretty oak dining table with 1 leaf to accommodate 6-8 guests; a really good wood stove (wood provided); a Monitor heater; central A\C and heat, too.
It has a delightful, covered front porch with wicker furniture and plants. Year-round, guests sit out there enjoying themselves. There is a bit of a river view, plus you hear it in the two front bedrooms, living room and porch. Lots of room for fishing gear, including boats and trailers.
Large gas BBQ and a Weber BBQ. Small outdoor dining set. Plus, just down the drive a short distance, full use of our patio over the river with dining set and fire pit.
A hammock next to the river and comfy chairs and benches are sprinkled around on the river patio, which we encourage guests to treat as theirs. Fish, swim and play with your dogs.
Deer wander throughout Bucktail, our little community. It's not unusual to look out and see them grazing in the yard.
Superb hiking on trails as well as a hard dirt road with almost zero traffic. We do welcome well-behaved dogs and have a pet fee of $15 per dog, per stay. The pet fee can be paid when you're here along with lodging tax. Let your dogs roam free. Bring your mountain bikes so you can keep up.
All bedding, linens, towels, soaps, laundry needs included. 1 roll of paper towels is provided so if you use a lot, bring a lot. There is a washer and dryer in Sow's Ear, full kitchen with everything you could need. If not, we will loan it to you!
The Smart TV has Netflix and Amazon Prime. Both offer an astounding array of movies and TV shows and make binge-watching a series very easy. There is an ipod/MP3 docking station. The master bedroom also has a Bose CD radio, so bring your music!
We offer kayak, raft, cataraft and stand up paddleboard (SUP) rentals, lessons and guided trips. Our guided kayak trips include a thorough lesson before departure. We are very good at teaching and supply everything you need. The river has gentle meanders with some mild but still fun rapids; or you can paddle on Lewiston Lake, which is also stunning (wonderful birding: great blue herons, bald eagles, golden eagles, osprey & more; we often see great blue herons, osprey, night herons and occasionally, bald eagles on our river trips).
We prefer Lewiston Lake to Trinity Lake because it has a 10 MPH speed limit, resulting in a peaceful place to SUP, kayak with kids and dogs, and fish. All raft trips on the river are guided by us, but you can rent a raft for lake use, too.
We rent wonderful inflatable SUPs that you can carry in their backpack in a very small vehicle, then pump up at the lake. Our hard boards offer even more options for you! Pristine, stream-fed ponds just a few miles away provide warmer water than the river for swimming, and are a nice option for families with small kids.
All of our lessons are tailored to the individual and we are very good at this, never pushing you beyond your comfort zone, yet showing you how to expand it with our help.
Michael Caranci of The Fly Shop in Redding says of our cabins:
'For sheer seclusion, access, and cozy, comfortable accommodations, the cabins at the Trinity River Adventure Inn are certainly among the best.'

Easy access to the river and just across the river from Bucktail put-in. Plenty of room for boats and trailers. Weaverville is about 20 minutes away and Lewiston is just a few miles from the cabin.

Guests see us if they need us. Some join us for a sit by the river and the fire pit, but they have as much privacy as they like. It's just two of us here, so if guests would like to be left alone on the patio, that's just fine with us.
On the flip side, many have become friends and some have become dear friends, while others kept to themselves so much, it was as though they weren't even here. However guests want to play this, we are good with it.
Weaverville has interesting galleries, museums and shops, as well as an excellent supermarket. There is a CVS pharmacy and many restaurants. Much more on all of this in our welcome book, which we send to you after booking.
Pretty Simple: Leave the cabin looking close to how you found it: Swept or vacuumed, clean dishes, fairly tidy. We'll take it from there.
We recycle and compost as much material as possible and ask you to help by separating items into specific containers. No smoking inside cabin.
Pick up after dogs and put poop bags in garbage.
Enjoy this incredibly quiet and peaceful place!

My husband, Steph Dutton, and I own and run Dunsmuir's Alpine Ski & Fish Haus and Trinity River Adventure Inn river cabins.
Steph is the only person to paddle a kayak from Victoria, B.C. Canada to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. I worked on tug boats before heading to Alaska to start the Sitka Sea Kayak Adventure, and that's where we met. We are both Coast Guard licensed sea captains who created and ran Sanctuary Cruises, a great whale watching company on the Monterey Bay.
We have 5 river cabins in Lewiston and Douglas City in Trinity County, as well as the Alpine Haus in Dunsmuir (Siskiyou County). We love skiing Shasta and established Dunsmuir as our own ski retreat, but find it immensely fun to visit year-round. We live right on the Trinity River and we love it, but we enjoy Dunsmuir's wonderful restaurants within walking distance (several are pet-friendly in summer on their patios!).
