We are an historic, beautiful, rustic, mountain cabin rental located in the remote Medicine Bow Mountains on the Colorado/Wyoming border. Three separate cabins available. Check out all three! Perfect for couples, groups or artist retreat.
If this cabin is not available for your trip, please check our profile for our other cabin rentals! The Forge, The Galaxy and the Trapper Cabin.
If you are looking to relax and escape hectic life, you have found the perfect spot. We are not in the back yard of Boulder, we are not 15 minutes from Denver. We are out (URL HIDDEN) the wilderness, in a very remote, sparsely populated area on the Colorado/Wyoming border. The wildlife is plenty and the locals are loggers, ranchers and other tough folks who have what it takes to make a living in a rugged mountain county.
Situated on a forested mountainside and built in the 1800's, this one room, historical, authentic trapper's cabin still stands. Be prepared to rough it, although in rugged luxury.
It is approximately 200 square feet studio with a king-size bed, a small sitting area, and a primitive kitchen area. The cabin is constructed of hand chinked, log, antique railroad ties, with a simple pine floor, and exposed beam vaulted ceilings. The rugged décor is locally collected or found, and authentically western. There are incredible views of mountain landscapes out every window.
It is a rustic cabin-which means there is no indoor plumbing. This requires making trips to the nearby new, hand built, clean outhouse when needed. The outhouse is located 60 feet from cabin, and shared with the other guests.
Potable and drinking water are provided inside the room.
There is a small microwave, drinkable water dispenser (hot and cold), coffee maker (and coffee), and a small cuisine-art hot plate electric burner inside the cabin. Prepare for a visit to The Trapper Cabin like you would a camping trip, with these amenities provided
The bed is a luxurious, clean king size pillow-top bed, topped with a down comforter.
The Trapper Cabin has limited access to electricity. The cabin is heated by wood stove/electric space heater.
During the months October thru May, wood stove heat is essential. We will make sure you are comfortable operating the stove (quite easy). Depending on the weather, a few stokes during the night might be necessary.
The front porch is where you spend most of your time taking in the wild surroundings, or at the nearby communal campfire ring, breathing the crisp mountain air.
The entire 80-acre property consists of three rental cabins, our home and a communal teepee. The cabins, including ours, are located on approximately 10 acres and although private, they are in close proximity of each other. (see photo)

Our property is an historic base camp with hundreds of acres of BLM and National Forest behind us, although we are very easy to reach! You can see the cabins when approaching from the highway, with only an additional 200 yards of dirt road from there.
Situated in the Medicine Bow Mountain Range, at 8700ft elevation, our property overlooks the dramatic, breathtaking view through Kings Canyon with the Zirkel Wilderness in the backdrop. The majestic high elevation peaks are usually snowcapped all year long. Walk, ski, snowmachine, or four wheel drive up endless winding logging roads and discover an untouched, rugged wilderness leading into Wyoming, full of remnants of pioneer cabins, 19th century logging and mining camps, and wildlife.
Guests are welcome to roam our 80 acre property and hang out in our teepee on the mountain top, with a breathtaking view.
We have snowshoes available to rent.
We offer a menu of ATV trips starting at $30 for a (hour) trip for two up to an old copper mine on the mountain. The ATV fits our driver and two guests. Signing the waiver is required. We do not have ATV rentals for guests to head out on their own yet, but are planning to add this adventure soon.
We are located close to Natural Hot Springs (Saratoga, Wyoming 60 miles and Steamboat Springs, Colorado 80 miles), for a fun day’s adventure.
There is a public natural sand dunes area 5 miles from our property.
We have lots of space and are open to renting RV spaces with electricity available

We are around to answer questions or help with anything you might need. We also realize what a perfect spot you will be in to decompress and un-stress from a busy life and respect your privacy during your stay. We do have a nice dog that roams freely on our property, and occasionally visiting fox, elk, moose and deer.
We are more than happy to refer you to local fishing guides, hiking trails, local hunting outfitters etc.
OUTHOUSE. Make sure you realize and can cope with the bathroom being new, clean, well-kept outhouse about 50 yards from the cabin.
Cell and wifi service is very spotty. We can provide emergency phone and internet from our home connections. We hope our guests find this a romantic opportunity to be still, unplugged, and connect with themselves to nature.
Be sure you hand enter our address 103 County Road 46 Walden Colorado into your GPS map for directions. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps and other services will try to change it into a recognizable address as we are so remote it doesn't always find us. Print the directions before you depart as you will be traveling in and out of serviceable areas.
We do not book back-to-back reservations. This means you will get a full two days visit with only a one night stay, which we think is necessary for experiencing all we have to offer.
Bring a coat. Even in the summer.
Showers are available for purchase 7 miles down the road at WyColo Lodge.
Walden Colorado is the nearest town with restaurants, gas and services. Showers are available at the pool.
There is a rugged, in a good way, western mountain bar that serves drinks and food 7 miles from the cabin. (WyColo Lodge). It is our favorite hang out with great owners, strong drinks, extra nice service and sometimes a stomp-down-live-music-get-it-on-mountainfolk-good time on Friday nights.
We do accommodate all legal smoking laws in Colorado, however we ask they are practiced outside and that all flames are safely extinguished. Please respect there is an extreme fire danger in this area.
We do not allow pets on the beds. (please!) We have invested in top of the line beds and the best of bedding. This is expensive to replace.
We have a waiver in your cabin that must be signed to cover extra curriculum activities that we offer, like ATV rides, snowshoeing, sledding, hiking, camping and exploring. We ask that each guest signs the waiver upon arrival and is then ready to have some fun!!
Any photoshoots or commercial photography must be pre approved and discussed. We appreciate and share professional and casual social media tagging.
Common sense courtesy is expected and returned.
Campfires must be approved by host and only in designated areas. There are often county fire bans and wind conditions that often restrict this activity. We provide firewood for heating the cabin and also enough for a few hours at the communal campfire. If you think your needs will exceed this, bring your own, or buy from host at $5 bundle. We ask that campfires are extinguished by 12 am.
Any items missing from cabins after check out will be billed to credit card. We try hard to make them special, authentic places for everyone to enjoy.
We ask that you respect our property and leave it in its place upon your departure.
Food in coolers must be kept inside vehicle or cabin.
Si vous annulez jusqu'à 24 heures avant le voyage, vous recevez un remboursement intégral. En cas d'annulation au cours des 24 heures précédant le voyage, la première nuit n'est pas remboursable.
