An original 1924 Lake Wallenpaupack home… before there was even a Lake Wallenpaupack! The 1924 Bungalow is one of the original five homes built by the Gumble brothers, founders of Gumble Brothers Lumber and builders of many classic and sought after homes in the area.


This classic arts and crafts bungalow has been restored with historic accuracy throughout, while updated for modern living and comfort.


The house is all on one level with views of the yard and stream that run along the property. Wood floors with area rugs throughout, ceramic tile in the bathroom and kitchen, granite counter tops and oak cabinets in the kitchen, all original and restored woodwork, stone fireplace and wavy glass windows with new storm windows/screens to let in the clean mountain air.


Simply put… we are a fully appointed four season home you can enjoy year round, along with all the Delaware River Valley and Poconos have to offer!


We are literally *surrounded* by outdoor activities! You’re anywhere between walking distance and 30 minutes drive from swimming, hiking, mountain biking, waterfalls, golf, skiing, antiquing, hunting and more! Fishing is year round on Lake Wallenpaupack or numerous nearby lakes, rivers and streams including the Lackawaxen with its excellent fly fishing opportunities. There is great antiquing as well in and around Hawley, with directions to some of our favorites included in your Welcome Pack!


Guests have access to a shared dock on Lake Wallenpaupack in season. (A boat slip is not included, nor is the ability to tie-up to the shared dock during your stay.) Guests also have access to a canoe that is moored at beautiful Lower Lake in Promised Land State Park (about 15 minute drive away). Lower Lake is non-motorized and stocked with brook, brown and rainbow trout. A trout stamp is required to fish in these waters. We choose Lower Lake for the wildlife observation station located to the right of the boat launch. From this secluded area you can catch a glimpse of hawks, herons and even the resident pair of bald eagles! Key to the canoe, life vests and paddles are provided, as well as an assortment of fishing rods and simple tackle box, with signature of a release form at time of check in.


There's firewood for use of the fireplace, campfire in the yard and a gas grill to use for cooking. There's a hammock, porch swing and multiple seating and lounging opportunities throughout the yard and grounds. Multiple indoor and outdoor games and activities are also included.


Looking for a little R&R? You’ll have access to Wi-Fi, amble books and magazines, stereo with mini-jack hookup for your phone, tablet or laptop, record player with handpicked assortment of records, writing desks in each room and multiple cozy locations for sleeping the day away. A true getaway means we have no TV… so bring your laptop or iPad for internet access to Netflix, Amazon Prime or any service subscriptions you can access remotely. No traditional phone line is available so don’t forget your mobile!


The kitchen is *brand new* and fully outfitted with everything you need to cook, bake or simply have a coffee while sitting at the island looking out at the yard. Granite counter tops, (propane) gas stove, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator with several small appliances and a multitude of utensils, plates, glasses bowls, china and more. Not interested in cooking? No worries! There are numerous dining opportunities, from coffee shops to pizza takeout to five stars, all within a short drive. Directions for the local grocery store, markets and seasonal farmers market will be provided.


Each of the two bedrooms has a queen size bed with extra pillows and blankets. Ceiling fans will keep you cool most nights with window air conditioners included (only in the bedrooms) should the weather get unusually warm. The back bedroom has an ensuite powder room with the main bathroom in the hallway between both bedrooms. The main bathroom is also completely renovated with cast-iron tub/shower and dimming lights for a long, quiet and peaceful bath. The living room sofa pulls out into a full size bed as well, hence our listing as "sleeps 6".


On arrival you’ll receive your Welcome Pack listing our favorite restaurants, shops, hikes, waterfalls, coffee shops, shopping, activities and more throughout the area. We’ve also included directions to some of our favorite drives and destinations! You’ll feel like a local before you know it ; )


Please review the map included with our listing to note we are located on the North side of Route 507, facing Route 507. This means not having to cross the road to get to the lake but also means we are not lakefront.


A final note: we've been restoring the house for nearly four years. You may note some areas (trim, floors, columns, etc. ) that we're still repairing... opting to take our time and get it right. We're midway through re-storing the outside paint and porches, utilizing time between summer bookings so as not to bother any of our guests. That said, NONE of this will inhibit your stay... and we'd like your opinion on how we're doing, what's missing and what else we can do to make this house feel like *your* house!

The guest will have access to the house, the grounds and dock. There is parking for 3-4 cars.

Beyond the reservation process and check-in process, I’ll happily stay in touch should you have any questions before, during or after your visit. You can call, email or text me throughout your stay and I’ll do all I can to ensure your visit is a great one! I am often on location and occasionally greet guests as they arrive.

Lake Wallenpaupack the third largest freshwater lake in Pennsylvania measuring 52 miles of shoreline, 13 miles in length, 60 feet deep at points, with excess of 5,700 acres of surface water. It was created in 1926 by PPL, the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, for hydroelectric purposes as well as flood control. The Lenape Indians named the area "Wallenpaupack" which means "The Stream of Swift and Slow Water." William Penn later owned the land and then deeded it to his son, who then gave it to James Wilson one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Enjoy boating, swimming and fishing access in the summertime, as well as ice skating and ice fishing in the winter. Its wooded shoreline also provides opportunities for hiking and viewing wildlife. Lake fish include smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, bluegill, walleye, muskellunge, northern pike, pickerel, rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout, catfish and yellow perch. Striped bass and hybrid striped bass have been stocked in the lake.

Ample parking onsite. You will need a car to get around.

Interested in skiing, snowboarding or tubing? Montage Mountain in Scranton is about 45 minutes West, Big Bear about 40 minutes North East, Camelback about 50 minutes South and Jack Frost about an hour South West.

We have a $75 cleaning fee regardless of length of stay, as well as a $250 security deposit. We have a gas grill and fire pit for you to enjoy, both are ready for use with extra gas and wood. Located on the North side of Route 507 means not having to cross the road to get to the lake.


As stated above, we have three window air conditioner units (one in each bedroom, one in the living room) with ceiling fans in both bedrooms and the living room.


Apologies, but we no longer allow pets of any kind during your stay.

The 1924 Bungalow is the perfect destination for a couples retreat, small family or a few friends to get away, get outside, enjoy the mountain air and be away from it all! We welcome those of like minds to enjoy The 1924 Bungalow year-round.

Simply put, this is a home not a hotel. While we enjoy a good time as much as anyone, we do not allow “house parties” and/or more than those registered at the house throughout your stay. The little things really do matter... we ask you don't leave dirty dishes in the sink when there is a dishwasher, coffee in the coffee pot, trash all over the house, etc. AirBnB works as those that use it bring with them a mutual respect and understanding of the basic rules of being a good host and/or guest. All we ask is that you treat this home as if it were your own.
