Nawraj Gurung (55 yrs old) is the father of the home. One of his retirement goals was to set up a local bar cum hut next to his home-stay and serve really strong tongba (millet-alcohol) to his guests and talk about his passion - local culture. Mrs. Prateema Gurung (the mother of the house) loves her flowers. A bundle of creativity, she leaves no stone un-turned to get the best look and feel for a place. This is the front view of the lower deck rooms which faces the green lawn in-front.

The place is right opposite sakya monastery and is very pretty. Prateema has taken great efforts to make it colorful and beautiful. There are so many flowers around your room that you wont feel like leaving! Its not exactly home stay. There are 6 rooms in all of which the one room on top has a good view. The hosts were kind enough to move us to the upper room once it was available. The rooms don't have a tv but it is there in the dining room. So its a perfect place to just sit back and relax. Their care taker uttam is very kind and helpful. The only thing that wasnt perfect was their food bill. We had dinner there since there is no other option around and market closes before 7. They charge 200 for veg thali and 300 for non veg. The food was freshly cooked and tasty so no regrets. Overall a nice relaxing pretty place.

We really enjoyed our stay and Prateema, her family and staff made us feel welcome from the start. The upstairs room was large and clean, overlooking a beautiful garden. Although it's about a kilometre from Kalimpong, l recommend staying here if you're looking for somewhere peaceful as Kalimpong is noisy. The breakfasts were delicious, every day we tasted new dishes. The only reason l didn't give a five-star rating was the extremely intermittent wifi.

Prateema is an excellent host always make sure that the guest feel like staying in their own home. The host family is educated, warm and helpful. The location is not in the hustle bustle of kalimpong main market but still near to it. Just 2 minutes walk from the 11th Mile main road you will hit Roots, Shoots & Beds the home of Prateema. The property is quite modern and very well maintained. Even the hut they have designed to give us a feel of village home. The bath rooms of the new property is modern and equipped with geysers a boon in cold climate of Kalimpong. From her home it takes only INR 10 to reach the main market of Kalimpong similarly Delo another nice place near kalimpong is very near to her house. she has planted lots of trees in her property and hanging strawberry plants are a visual delight. She has two lovely dogs. My daughter enjoyed the stay and the company of the dogs. The food is home cooked and excellent. Though she is having two helping hands but always personally look into guests food and liking. we loved whatever they have provided us for breakfast to lunch to dinner. It was really delicious. The stay was quite enjoyable and food and comfort and Pratima along with Roots, shoots and Beds (R,S,B) family made it more memorable. Really a very nice place to stay.

The guest house is conveniently located for Dr Graham's Homes, where I was visiting. It is 30 minutes walk from Kalimpong centre, although there is plenty of transport available if you'd rather not walk. I was made to feel very welcome, the breakfast could be taken in the attractive garden and the room was comfortable with hot water in abundance. I could sit outside the room on the balcony, which looks out on the garden with its many plants and shrubs. Prateema and daughter-in-law Benita were friendly and helpful and good to chat to. There is a pool table and a selection of books you can borrow. I had my dinners at Roots, Shoots and Beds too and the food was excellent! I enjoyed my stay a lot!

Very hospitable and kind people. The room was very clean and the sheets were good. The room was well made too. Just as we checked-in, they provided us with some tea and snacks, and later that day, helped give us some guidance on the local tourism. The dinner was chargeable, but not very expensive. They served us good food. Breakfast was included and that was good. They have a pool table which we had some fun playing. Summarizing, this place was comfortable and cozy. There was a little trouble in locating this place, the sign board is extremely small and it is very easily missed. The easiest way would be reach "Shakya Monastery" at Kalimpong. 2 parts of the room that I did not like so much. Albeit, Kalimpong is not a cold place as Sikkim, some better quality blowing heaters would make the stay much more comfortable than the "lamp" heaters - these are just helplessly futile in heating even the surrounding areas of the room, let alone the entire room. Health faucets in the toilet would be a needed addition in my opinion. I realize these are very minor issues, and I am just cribbing, but this is so. One last thing -> we had some really bad neighbors, and although the host tried pacifying them, it was of no good. Would really appreciate if the host was more strict, rather than being helpless to a certain extent, and prompt in handling the situation, rather than us, having to go and inform the host that the neighbors are creating a ruckus.

We arrived on the main day of Diwali, and were invited by this lovely family into their home that evening, to share the special foods they had prepared for the festival. All around us were the sounds of firecrackers and rockets being set off in the valley. It is situated high up from the valley and was a great place from which to see the fireworks, but not the mountains. Their home is situated right at the base of Deolo Hill which is a steep long walk but worth it for the view of the Himalayas from there. They were very kind to us. The omelettes for breakfast were really yummy!!
