This former Bed and Breakfast, a historic mansion built in 1790, is now a private residence with bedrooms available for occasional visitors like you! You will sleep in period splendor in this well-appointed period home.

Le logement

This house was formerly the Glasgow Inn Bed and Breakfast, a tourist destination until the early 2000's. It is now a private home decorated in period style, with lots of extra bedrooms. The house was built around 1790 and has original moldings and woodwork, If you enjoy fine antiques and colonial charm, this is the place for you. And it is 2 blocks from the start of the triathlon.

Glasgow is a historic home located at Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. It is a Federal style, gable-front, 2 1⁄2-story brick house built about 1792. Attached is a 1 1⁄2-story frame wing dating from the early 20th century. Local history holds that the home was the birthplace of William Vans Murray, a diplomat appointed by Thomas Jefferson to be Minister Plenipotentiary, but land records and Murray's biographical data both indicate that it is unlikely that it was ever his home. It is possible, however, that Murray stayed there for some time after his return from his service as foreign minister in the Netherlands, with his first cousin William Murray Robertson, the owner at the time. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We are just outside the city limits of Cambridge, two blocks from Great Marsh park, where the triathlon begins. We are within walking distance to downtown and the marina, Long Wharf and Sailwinds park. We are next to Pink's Pond and across the street from the Choptank River. There is a nice sandy beach where we swim and kayak.

Dorchester County, known as the heart of the Chesapeake, is known for the Blackwater wildlife refuge, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad, and Horn Point Lab environmental center. You'll probably see bald eagles or osprey, as well as migrating geese and ducks, depending on the time of year.

Accès des voyageurs

We have 4 guest rooms that we are listing, and there are 4 shared bathrooms. You will have access to the entire first floor of the house- a TV room and formal living room and dining room, the kitchen, and patio with rocking chairs and tables. There is a gas grill outside.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We'll greet you and get you oriented when you arrive, but then it's up to you if you want to interact or have some privacy. Your hosts are me, a home based editor, and my partner Dave, who is retired. We will be around during your stay. We don't serve you meals but you can you can use the kitchen to store and fix your own meals if you like. The dogs will probably want to be your friends.

Autres remarques

We have two dogs (A Golden Retriever and a rescue mix) who are very people and kid friendly. We have an Invisible Fence, and they have free roam of the property to keep it safe from evil squirrels.

All your linens and towels are provided, and any toiletries you need are available. We have a w/d you can use, and an outdoor hose. If you still have energy, ask me about borrowing my SUP, kayak, or sailboat. There is bocce ball on the lawn, and volleyball, corn hole, and we can even have bonfires on this property.

Daryl and Dave were very accommodating and kind. I came in for Ironman Maryland and they opened her full home up to us to include caring for our bikes and utilizing their kitchen for cooking/nutritional needs (took the stress off of eating out night before race). The home was in a very quiet cul-de-sac off of the main road and was perfect to get to/from transition (2-3 blocks distance). This was key especially after the race when you are entirely exhausted and need to bring your bike/bags home. They even had a hose in the back that we used to wash the mud off our bikes, shoes, legs, etc. Their two dogs are very mellow and sweet. I believe the home looks even nicer in person (than pics). Daryl, who also volunteered for the race, was very helpful with race information, weather reports, water temperatures, restaurants and maps. I would definitely stay there again.

So far beyond expectations it was off the chart. Daryl and Dave simply could not have been more helpful & accommodating, from the initial communication thru my departure. Sore feet from too much walking? Daryl found me Epsom salts & medicated blister band-aids . She offered to take me kayaking (I chickened out). The house has stunning furnishings and décor, D&D are discerning collectors and respectful of the house's fascinating history. It was a perfect location - in the most beautiful part of Cambridge along the river, yet near enuff to downtown that you could easily bike there. Easy drive into St. Michael's, Easton, and not at all far from Blackwater Natl Wildlife Refuge. My 4-poster bed bedroom had its own bathroom 'across the hall'. Everything was immaculate. I cannot imagine that a more delightful airbnb listing exists on the Eastern Shore. I have given this listing as high a rating as possible in every category, and I cannot wait to return. Added bonus: their two lovable, adorable dogs will steal your heart.

Enjoyed a wonderful visit to Cambridge, MD and the Glasgow Inn. Daryl and Dave were fantastic hosts and we felt completely welcome in their beautiful home. The location was super convenient for visiting downtown Cambridge and is right by the finish line for the annual Ironman 70.3 Eagleman and Ironman Maryland events. A perfect place to stay on the Eastern Shore!

I am a knitter, kayaker, and choral singer. I am a Maryland native, but I lived in San Diego for 5 years during and after law school. We bought this historic house in July 2014.
