Description

On a quaint tree-lined street in the heart of Cincinnati’s Over-The-Rhine historic neighborhood, this home offers modern, spacious, comfortable and well conceived rooms. The relaxed environment is suited for romantic city get-a-ways or smaller groups looking for a space for intimate gatherings. A full backyard, private rooftop deck, living room, large dining table, and attic lounge area make it seem like an oasis amidst being directly in the city.

Built in the 1860's, this house has since been transformed into a modern 3 story home with angled walls, a modern staircase, while maintaining remnants of the historic brick structure, including several discontinued fireplaces, which add a sense of history and transition.

The interior feels loft-like, with bright indirect light, big rooms and plenty of space to spread out. There is plenty of sunny outdoor space included in the backyard, the second story deck, and private rooftop space.

Guests have exclusive access from the 2nd story deck just outside the living room all the way up to the attic/rooftop.

You have shared access to the ground level backyard garden with more seating & a fire pit.

There is a completely separate apartment on the ground level of the building (which is also listed on Airbnb as Bohemian / Modern Apartment).

Although we do not live on the property, we live very close (5-min) and are available to offer assistance with anything you need during your stay. We can meet you at the house and assist you with your check in, but we offer full access information before your arrival, so that you may arrive and check-in at your leisure.

This house is on Orchard Street just off of Main Street, which hosts some of the best art galleries, record stores, bread/pastry's, neighborhood cafes, a slew of chef owned restaurants, independent retail shops, theaters and music clubs in the city.

Historically Over-the-Rhine is a working-class neighborhood. It is also believed to be the largest, most intact urban historic district in the United States. The neighborhood's distinctive name comes from its builders and early residents, German immigrants of the mid-19th century. Many walked to work across bridges over the Miami and Erie Canal, which separated the area from downtown Cincinnati. The canal was nicknamed "the Rhine" in reference to the Rhine River in Germany, and the newly settled area north of the canal as "Over the Rhine."In German, the district was called "über dem Rhein."

Over-the-Rhine has been praised for its collection of historic architecture. The New York Times described the neighborhood as having "a scale and grace reminiscent of Greenwich Village in New York." Its architectural significance has also been compared to the French Quarter in New Orleans and the historic districts of Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina. When Arthur Frommer, founder of the Frommer's travel guides, visited Over-the-Rhine he described it as the most promising urban area for revitalization in the United States, and claimed that its potential for tourism "literally could rival similar prosperous and heavily visited areas."

You can easily walk to most all areas of OTR. There's a Cincy Redbike (bike-share) station just across the street. Typically, there is parking within a block of the house, although we do not currently have a private parking spot. The bus stop is right around the corner & quickly takes you uphill to the University of Cincinnati, etc. Uber is also a simple option & a trip down to the stadium will cost around $5-$10.

The Cincinnati Bell "Connector" street car is available within a 2 block walk from the front door. The closest station is near the corner of Main Street & 12th Street. The streetcar will take you near Findlay Market and Rhinegeist Brewery or to the Banks and downtown towards the river. $1 a ride or $2 for a day pass.

STAIRS: This house is 4 stories tall and is accessible with stairs only. If you have a consideration for going up and down stairs, please be aware of it.

SECURITY: The house has a secure side gate entrance, a larger back alley gate, and a rear home entrance. Although it is secure, don't not leave any valuable belongings outside during your stay i.e bicycles unlocked, etc.
Also, don't leave personal belongings in full view in your parked car.
Keep in mind, this is an urban environment, along with all the considerations that come with that.

We are generally pretty relaxed in terms of how you choose to enjoy your stay... and thank you for keeping the following simple guidelines in mind during your experience. Have fun, enjoy, relax, chill, adventure, discover and do you:

-Our check-in time is very flexible after 3pm, but please just let us know your approximate arrival time and we will do our best to accommodate you. We often require time to reset the place for incoming guests after your stay, which makes it necessary for a 12pm check-out. Thank you for your understanding.

-Always keep the property safe by checking that the exterior doors are properly locked. The mechanism on the inside portion of the digital keypad on the front door should always be horizontal in the locked position. If your unsure, just try to open the door from the outside without using the code. If it opens it is not properly locked.

-QUIET HOURS 12am - 9am. Please be aware of your neighbors both indoor and outdoor. We cannot have late-night-loud-noise outside at all… as our neighbors bedroom is right beside our backyard. They are very cool with us hosting guests as long as it doesn’t inhibit their lives or sleep.

- Please do not smoke anything inside the house. There are plenty of outdoor spaces do do this. ALWAYS USE ASHTRAYS OR A CAN...

-If you are traveling with anyone under the age of 21 years old, we need to know before approving your reservation.

-We do allow “Day Guests” & "Evening Guests", but please keep it minimal and reasonable. Because of our homes proximity to it's neighbors and for safety, WE CANNOT ALLOW large uninhibited, "blow-out" Parties... but we do allow small events..... (SUCH AS: game night, family get-togethers, cocktail hour, small dinner parties, gatherette's, brunches, Bridal Party Preparation, ETC.) with a guest count and a note about it in your reservation inquiry.

-We must have an accurate guest count of everyone staying overnight. We charge $20 for every guest after 4. The house has a capacity for up to 8 overnight guests.

-It's slightly ridiculous to mention, but from our experience, we've instituted a rule of absolutely NO GLITTER… EVER. Yes it is fun and beautiful in the moment, but it is the absolute worst/impossible to completely clean up afterwards. We will charge $50 after your reservation, if it has been brought into the space.

Hello, my name is Mike and I am an accomplished architect specialized in renovating dilapidated buildings, revitalizing our urban core & making people's dreams a reality. I like: architecture & urban design, community engagement & environmental consciousness, art galleries, seeing bands & performances, hosting dinner parties, drinking beer around the bonfire, lots and lots of traveling & exploring, cycling all over, camping & other outdoor pursuits especially swimmin' holes. If you're here on a Tuesday, grab a RedBike on the end our the block and join the Urban Basin Bicycle Club (which I co-lead), for an easy ride around the city, with locals and people interested in this wonderful historic city!

My Airbnb co-host Cade, moved here in 2014 and has helped breath new life in to the house in every respect. Aside from being interested in interior design and architecture, he enjoys gardening and collecting textiles and crafting around the house. He is an accomplished performer and singer/songwriter with voice, acoustic guitar and piano being his main instruments. He love's driving on the open road and visiting warm exotic places.

We both really enjoy being hosts and hope to create ideal spaces and experiences for each of our guests visiting Over-The-Rhine, Cincinnati!
