Seynabou Mandisa's narrative painting style features passionate images of the human journey and is rooted in the exploration of cultural folklore and reweaving a new origin story. Mandisa has been mentored in the creative arts and visionary business by the legendary and visionary painter Shiloh McCloud. She is a member of Shiloh McCloud's Cosmic Cowgirls and is certified in the Color of Woman Painting Method.
Mandisa is adjunct faculty in a Women's Spirituality MA Program and also adjunct faculty at a local community college in the Humanities/Ethnic Studies Department.
Seynabou is a multi-disciplined performer, choreographer and teacher of sacred movement with over 15 years of experience studying the dances of the African Diaspora. She is the founder of TranscenDance, a women's Sacred Performance Circle. Trained locally and internationally, she danced with the Brasilian troupe Fogo Na Roupa for 10 years and has been a freestyle soloist with the dynamic Batucada do Leste for the past 5 years. She is a former dancer for the amazing SpiritDrumz, created by Afia Walkingtree, and has a certificate in Rumba and Folklore from the University of Matanzas in Cuba where she studied dance, drum and folklore with Las Muñicitos de Matanzas and Afro Cuba.
Food Justice Activist
In addition to her artistic and educational endeavors, Mandisa is an urban farmer with a passion for gardening and reconnecting women to the land. She manages an Oakland Fresh organic Farmer's Market in West Oakland, which she has done weekly for the past four years. She partners with Alameda County Nutrition Services to have monthly cooking demonstrations and community outreach to bring healthy organic recipes and fresh produce to the neighborhood and elementary school students. She has been a volunteer teaching elementary school students cooking, art, gardening and dance.
