À propos de ce logement

Double room with canal views in beautiful period home yet only ten minutes walk from the historic city centre of Lancaster. Convenient location for the hospital and universities as well as touring the North of England, Lake District and Scotland.

Le logement

Three private rooms in a beautiful period home with canal views yet only ten minutes walk from the historic city centre of Lancaster. This ia a private home and not a hotel or guest house. We are a little more than ten minutes walk to the train station where you can take direct trains to London in 2 1/2 hours or Edinburgh. We are a short drive from the sea at Morecambe. 45 minutes to the English Lake district or East to the Yorkshire Dales and moors. The location of our house allows easy access to a range of historic towns and cities such as York, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester and also areas of natural beauty by car or train. The University of Cumbria is a short drive or 20 minutes walk away, while buses to Lancaster University run every 10 minutes from the bus stop at the end of the road. Alternatively you could drive to Lancaster University in ten minutes or cycle along the cycle route. Lancaster Royal Infirmary is just across the canal. The railway runs next to the house and during the summer months a steam train passes by on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
The house is laid out over four floors. It is large and are two double bedrooms on the first floor, one with canal views. Each has a double or king size bed and ample wardrobe/drawer space. There is a shared bathroom for guests with a 3 piece suite and an electric shower over the bath. A further attic bedroom has a small double bed. This room has canal views, ample shelves and drawers but no wardrobe.
There is a large kitchen diner, utility, storage for bikes and two large reception rooms.
In the basement the large kitchen diner where guests are welcome to prepare meals, is well equipped with a range cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher. There is a table and chairs with comfortable seating for six. The kitchen has patio doors out to the paved courtyard with large pond. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, a small cloakroom and cobbled shed.
On the ground floor, guests are welcome to join us in our cosy living room with open fire and chesterfield sofas. There is a flat screen television with free view digital channels and a DVD player. Across the entrance hall is a larger more formal lounge with a music system. There is a fast broadband BT infinity wifi connection. The front garden is lawned and privacy is afforded by a trellis fence supporting mature honeysuckle and wisteria. Canal boats often drift by in the summer.
Just 5 minutes walk away across the canal is arguably one of the best pubs in Lancaster serving a range of cask ales and good food at reasonable prices on a canal side terrace. On street parking is available with a permit payable locally. Or there is free parking 200 metres down the road. (It may be possible to park a small car next to the house) A walk into Lancaster will take you to two theatres, a multi screen cinema and several historic buildings including Lancaster castle which until recently housed a prison. Lancaster has a quayside with bars and restaurants and its pedestrianised centre is home to many independent clothes and jewellery shops. There is the Storey arts complex and a number of small galleries. On Saturdays and Wednesdays there is a market selling local produce. Lancaster has a large park with a butterfly house and monumental folly which a climb to the top gives the most magnificent views of Morecambe bay and the lakeland hills beyond. Lancaster is a fantastic central base from which to tour some of the best of England Scotland and even North Wales. Closer to home there is plenty to do. The university has a state of the art sports complex that is open to the public. The museums run family events through the summer and Morecambe hosts a festival on every weekend of the summer months.
We may be flexible about dates and price. Contact us if you have a suggestion and please be aware that this is our home and not a hotel. (Please note prices given are per room based on single occupancy)

We generally leave our guests to their own devices as we are often quite busy ourselves.
We have occasionally cooked with longer term guests or gone for a drink together. We are sociable and friendly and are happy to give advice regarding the local area or just to chat in the kitchen etc. The house is quite big so it is easy to keep yourself to yourself if that's what you want.

I stayed in Lancaster for three months. Audrey picked me up and also got me to the station on my last day. Both Audrey and Eugene were always ready to answer any questions I had and made sure I was okay but otherwise left me alone so I could work. They always told me when someone else was staying in the house and also welcomed some of my friends while I was there.

Lovely stay with Audrey and Eugene, who couldn't have been more welcoming. Fab room, lovely home, and a lift up to the castle for our wedding - couldn't have asked for more. Thanks!

We felt very welcome - Audrey and Eugene always made an effort to help us park the car nearby as the closest parking on the street was a wee walk away. The proximity to the township was just a meander away, and the fish and chip shop around the corner was fabulous. Definitely recommend this property.

Audrey and Eugene did everything to make us feel at home. They recommended things to do and places to eat which we followed up. We found them friendly, generous and considerate.

Audrey and Eugine were fantastic hosts; incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about the area, and were even kind enough to invite us out for a drink with them. We would stay again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Audrey and Eugine were friendly and very helpful during our stay. There suggestions and comments regarding local eateries were spot on and really useful. Our room, which faced the canal, received the early morning sunshine, bird and duck song, and even sheep baa-ing. Lovely! The stretch of canal is particularly lovely - a great location yet an easy walk into the town centre.
