We are extremely proud of the beautiful surroundings and grounds we have created at Wairepo House. No matter when you visit us, you will find our grounds compliment the season perfectly and are a natural spectacle all year round.

Feel free to wander around in our tranquil two acre woodland and native gardens. Meander through two acres of stunning 'export' peonies or join Richard on a tour around our 5th generation apple and pear orchard.

Hide away and relax beside the pond and spoil yourself with a platter of local delicacies in our restored summerhouse. Or discover your own magical 'hide-away' spot on the grounds and relax with a picnic on the grass and a glass of superb Nelson Chardonnay.

With splendid views of the incredible estuary and the magnificent Mount Arthur Mountain range our grounds are set in the most beautiful landscape and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do

We recommend arriving by hired vehicle.
Wairepo House is in Mariri, right at the heart of the Nelson region's rural hinterland at the top of the South Island in New Zealand. We are close to the Moutere Inlet and command sweeping views of Tasman Bay and the magnificent Mount Arthur mountain range.

Wairepo is the Maori name for the valley in which the homestead and orchard are situated.

Wairepo means "water running through a swamp". 'Wai' is the Maori word for water and 'repo' means swamp.

In pre-European times, Maori used parts of the Wairepo valley to grow kumara (sweet potato). Early European settlers have also uncovered some evidence of Maori cooking sites (earth ovens) in this area.
