A Romantic Retreat -Tastefully converted stone barn with views of 13th C. Abbey ruins & mature garden. Ideal location for touring east coast and Dublin (Airport 30min). Mezzanine bedroom overlooking the open plan living area & wood burning stove.

This barn was converted by the owner in 2008 into a comfortable and inviting open plan living area & kitchen with a mezzanine double bedroom. Exposed stone walls and oak beams are complemented by luxurious furnishings and a cosy wood burning stove.

The kitchen / dining area is fully equipped with gas hob, 3 in 1 Microwave / grill / convection oven, fridge with ice box and is sufficiently well-equipped to please any gourmet. There is a wet room-style shower room and wc. The living area is snug and cosy with a comfortable couch, wood burning stove and an array of interesting and unusual books on the history, flora and fauna of Ireland. A small stair case leads up to the mezzanine bedroom with comfy double bed, clothes storage and excellent views across the garden and countryside beyond.

This is a really romantic location - so much so that we have had more than ten honeymooning couples stay here and even two proposals (successful ones!)

The accommodation is suitable for up to two adults. Babies are welcome but please note that the barn is not suitable for toddlers or small children due to the steep staircase and wood burning stove.

We have just joined Airbnb but have been welcoming guests since 2008.

The barn is a detatched stone building located in the grounds of the owner's country house. It has it's own parking space and outdoor seating area. The huge oak framed window and double french doors open out to them 9gravelled seating area and gardens, which guests are welcome to enjoy.

Colm makes every effort to welcome his guests in person and can provide information on the local amenities, restaurals, tourist attractions etc. Guests enjoy privacy throughout their stay but are welcome to their host should they require any furtherlimmmmml

Ardcath is a tiny, quiet village in County Meath, near the border to County Dublin. The village pub is a three minute walk away and is full of character. Convenience stores are a 10 minute drive.

This is an excellent location for touring both Dublin city (50mins drive) and the east coast. The Boyne Valley, Newgrange heritage site and the Hill of Tara are within 20mins drive, as are the beaches of Bettystown and Gormanston. Enjoy any one of a dozen excellent golf courses within 20 miles, as well as horse racing at nearby Bellewstown, Fairyhouse or on the strand at Laytown.

Our guests have enjoyed day trips to Wicklow (the Garden of Ireland), the Giants Causeway in Co. Antrim, Carlingford & hill walking in the Cooley Mountains and exploring the castle ruins in the heritage town of Trim, among many others.

Excellent restaurants, cafes and shopping are available in medieval Drogheda, modern Ashbourne, Skerries and Bettystown which are all a 20 min car journey. let

As this property is located in a quiet, rural area, a car is a must for getting around. Bikes can be arranged by the host for use during your stay. Catch the train from nearby Balbriggan to take you along the coast into the heart of Dublin city if you prefer to avoid traffic and parking charges!

A large basket of los is provided for the stove. Further logs are available from the host for a small fee or from nearby sl

The location of the cottage is great for touring the Irish countryside. Colm was an excellent host, he explained everything in detail and gave us very good recommendations. Thank you very much! We loved Bennet's, the pub across the street, great atmosphere and super friendly with foreigners.

Colm's cottage is as beautiful as the pictures suggest and more so. With ample space & utilities, it really is a home from home. Ardcath is a historical village and you will require a car if you stay here as it is rural. Colm is a wonderful host who is so knowledgeable, kind & helpful and really made our stay fantastic. I couldn't recommend highly enough

The hermitage was a unique and great start to our trip to Ireland. The house itself was as expected from the reviews, photos and description. Bennets Pub across the street is a highlight, and was some of the best Guinness and conversations we had on our trip. Located close to Dublin and Newgrange Tombs, this was a great location to be secluded away from the busyness, but yet still close enough to everything. Colm prepared the place ahead of time with a fire, music and even fresh bread and milk. We had a wonderful time and recommend it to anyone looking for a unique experience!

Colms hospitality was amazing! A fire was lit when we arrived and everything we needed was in the cottage. The locals were so welcoming as well!

Hi, my name is Colm. I am originally from nearby Drogheda but have been living in Ardcath for more than thirty years. I converted the barn in 2008 and I enjoy welcoming guests from all over the world to stay here. I hope to make you feel welcome and give any advice and information I can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
