My son and his new bride stayed at the Mayhurst for their wedding night. They absolute LOVED it! They arrived to champagne and strawberries that night and they said the breakfast was out of this world!! Thanks Jack and Pat for treating my kids so well!!!❤️

The history of the house, hospitality, and just the feeling of being welcome. This was the first B&B I have ever stayed at, and the history of the house is amazing and truly educational. Jack and Pat were extremely polite and helpful and ensured that if there was anything they could do to assist us, that it was done. Upon arriving Jack told us about the local area, gave us a map of the, pointed out highlights and local wineries. Then he gave us vouchers for free tasting at a few of the wineries. This was great as that alone saved up probably 40 dollars. While we were out for the day he arranged dinner reservations for us also. We enjoyed the wine and cheese social in the library that evening prior to going to dinner. My wife enjoyed the little dished of chocolates that were placed around the house too. The next morning we had an amazing breakfast with great attention to detail that was truly delicious and more than I expected or could have asked for. I have recommended to my friends that they stay here also. The bed was extremely comfortable also! THANK YOU for enabling my wife and I to have a great weekend and for upgrading us due to it was her B-day and our anniversary.

From the moment we walked in the door Jack and Pat were extremely welcoming and hospitable. We were offered a glass of wine, chatted with other guests, and watched the Preakness in the sitting room. From the first moment until our last, the entire staff was always very accommodating and pleasant to be around. The house and grounds are extremely breathtaking and unique. I will definitely stay again when we make it back up to Virginia wine country, and highly recommend this location to anyone looking a relaxing home away from home with the best hospitality and fantastic breakfasts!

Jack and Pat purchased Mayhurst Inn in April 2004 and continue the tradition of fine Southern Hospitality that is a signature of Mayhurst since 1859.

In some of his "previous lives" Jack received a BA (Political Science) and MA (Business Administration), served as an officer in the US Army (Infantry) for 20 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel and married the girl of his dreams. Following his retirement he was the Director of Federal Programs for a major Healthcare Corporation and oversaw the installation and implementation of Electronic Medical Record Systems. Virtually none of his experiences prepared him for innkeeping. Now Jack is a happy innkeeper, an avid gardener, amateur cook, experienced parachutist and scuba diver, former baseball coach and umpire, and an enthusiastic historian who loves living in the history of Mayhurst and meeting new people.

Pat's experiences include attending collage and receiving a BA (Social Work), finding and marrying the incredibly lucky Jack, rearing three children and moving 15 times in 30 years. Simultaneously she worked as both a social worker and Alzheimer/Dementia specialist who ran Alzheimer care facilities and provided Alzheimer training and counseling for the staff in over 50 homes. Her lifetime experiences have served her well in dealing with a huge variety of guests and with her often clumsy and inept husband. She is a fantastic cook, an experienced homemaker and decorator who loves meeting, talking with guests and taking care of their needs. She's the boss but isn't allowed to touch plants due to her black thumb.

If you have questions about the area, things to do, places to eat - after 12 years of Innkeeping we are your best source of information.
