Autres remarques

The landscaping and lawns around the house are extensive. The back yard is private and beautiful -- a wonderful place to relax with family and friends.

Stonington, located about 20 minutes away, is a working fishing village with its galleries, restaurants, the Opera House and mailboat to Isle au Haut is 20 minutes travel. Pick up fresh caught lobsters for dinner at the Stonington Coop. In the summer customers enjoy coming to the Coop dock to watch the boats unload and to enjoy the spectacular view of Stonington harbor and the surrounding islands. The adventurous ones may go down onto the float to personally pick out their lobsters for dinner. Somehow a vacation in Maine isn’t complete for most people unless they’ve had a fresh caught lobster, and more than one person has commented that they’ve never had better than one from Stonington. Blue Hill with shops, galleries, restaurants and banking facilities is 12 miles by car. The Blue Hill Wineshop has a terrific selection of wines, coffees, teas, cigars, and plenty of advice and good cheer. Mt. Desert Island including Arcadia National Park and Bar Harbor and is 1 hour travel distance.

My daughter celebrated her wedding next door to Joe's and Paula's place. My family and I stayed at farmhouse next door but our family guests from Germany stayed at Joe's. Paula and Joe's house is most beautiful renovated and has antic furniture as was pointed out. The lawn and the surrounding of the house is immaculate. The furniture is comfortable. The kitchen is beautifully renovated and furnished. The location is great. From the bedroom windows you look out on the ocean. The reason for my average rating is that the house is not vacation and family friendly. Children are allowed but not welcome. The house had no highchair for the 2 year old or a crib for the baby. Paula has extreme high expectation concerning gentle use of their place.

Sorry Sieglinde but we never supplied high chair or crib as previous guests either brought their own or they rented children equipment. Glad you enjoyed your visit

For starters, the description listed is a bait and switch. There is no view of the water. There is no water access. The beautiful pictures of the water they include in this ad are from somewhere else. Very misleading. Second, the owner of the home was unprepared for our visit and her personality was borderline rude. Not Joseph - seen in the ad here; he was friendly and very pleasant - his mother, Paula. She was the one we actually dealt with. Let me give an example. My fiance and I were paying for the house for my parents and family the weekend I got married. We were hosting them. We paid almost $1700 for their stay at this house. As I walked through to settle them in, Paula told my parents that she wanted them to collect all their trash at the end of the wedding weekend and drive it 30 miles to a dump in Ellsworth -- even though included in my payment was a $150 cleaning fee! When I told her that I didn't want my parents driving to a dump the day after my wedding, she said my parents could write a personal check to her cleaning lady for the "extra" effort. This was OUTRAGEOUS to me and I called her back and told her as much. After ten minutes of haggling back and forth, she waved the $20 dump fee. Hours later her son texted me that he was sorry about the confusion. There was no confusion. I'll let the reader draw his own conclusions! Third, there was no hot water the first day. It was only after two people had taken cold showers that my mother called to alert her of the problem and Paula then instructed my mom how to turn on the hot water. Small oversight, but shows a lack of readiness. Finally, a bigger problem was the window screens. I would assume by late summer the house would be ready for summer weather. Nope. The bug screens to the windows were not only not on, they were stored in closets. So, my sister had to find and install screens just to open the windows in a house that had no air conditioning. That should have been done before they arrived. In fact, when Paula was telling my mother about the screens needing to be installed, my mother asked what she meant, because where we come from, screens stay on the windows. To which Paula challenged my 68 year-old mother as if she were a child, "Well now, you tell me, what do YOU think I mean?" Rude. Not helpful. Certainly not gracious. On the plus side, the wedding weekend was lovely. No one thought too much about the house. It's just disappointing to me, as a bride and daughter, that I couldn't provide for and take care of my parents in the way that I wanted.

I’m sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We’ve had many guests/renters over the years and we strive to create the best possible experience for them. We realize there are little idiosyncrasies in dealing with old New England farmhouse and we'll work to better explain those. While putting the water heater on is a flip of the light switch, it should have been left on for you. As the Maine weather is often undecided, sometimes formidable, having the windows closed is important when not in residence. Historically, renters/guests have installed the horizontal sliding window screens as needed, as the nights are often too cold so they decide which window screens they'd prefer to have in. Regarding the pictures, we've included captions on all of them, to include one of the house showing the water in the distance, no where do we state the house is on the water. Again, we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay as we enjoy sharing our home with others. All the best.

This is a really, really special house in a beautiful, quiet part of Maine. So much love (and talent!) clearly went into the design and decoration and it was so much fun to explore all of the different rooms upon arrival. The area was stunning and great for long walks and runs and exploring nature. Everyone we met in the town was nice and helpful. Our hosts wisely pointed us towards the lobster rolls at Fish Net in nearby Blue Hill, which turned out to be the best we'd ever had—we went back three times! Worth noting that two of the upstairs bedrooms are connected to one another so there's limited privacy for people staying in those rooms, but it was not a problem for us. Would be a great spot for a family. We would love to return some time.

We spent a very pleasant three weeks in Sedgwick. The house is spacious and welcoming and well-equipped. Ideal for a lazy summer escape, and a great location for exploring the Blue Hill peninsula and Deer Isle. Joe was a communicative and helpful host. A great experience.

We have restored many beautiful houses over the years; which is indeed a 'labor of love'. We live and work in the Boston area and travel between Boston and Maine as much as possible. We fell in love with this home and this area years ago and hope you will too. Our goal is to make your stay enjoyable, relaxing, and memorable. You are welcome to enjoy it when we are not in residence!
