2nd floor guest room & private bath, plus first floor parlor (living room), in an historical home in the quaint, picturesque lakeside town of Eagle River. Just out the door is Lake Superior, a sandy beach, river gorge, waterfall, sunsets & stargazing

This spacious and pleasant room sleeps 1-3 people. It is in an historic home that was built in the 1860's. In the past, the home was a boarding house, "Grandview." The guest room has three large windows that face the lake, with enjoyable lake breezes during the summer months. A private bath is across the hall, just off the bedroom. The bedroom is set up with both a double and single bed (to sleep up to three, or for extra sleeping space for restless sleepers.) We are confident that our guests will find this a comfortable and enjoyable space to call their temporary home. We have accomplished much in the nearly 20 years that we've owned the home, and the restoration goes on....and on. A variety of recreational activities are available for all ages and skill levels. Explore the history of the area, or experience biking on beginner to world-class mountain bike trails. Hike, kayak, stroll the beaches, agate pick, or simply relax in the natural beauty of the area. We are an easy drive to the dock for the "Isle Royale Queen" in Copper Harbor, which transports visitors to and from the Isle Royale National Park. Winter provides abundant snow for downhill and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. We are ideally located just 16 miles from Mt. Bohemia and 30 miles north of Mt. Ripley/Michigan Tech. You will find "Grandview" a welcoming place to return to after a day of adventuring or an hour or so of relaxing on the beach.

The spacious guest room is on the second floor, with a private bath. There is a parlor on the first floor for your use as well. During the fall and winter months, we are happy to build a fire in the parlor woodstove for your warmth and enjoyment. During the summer and early Fall, feel free to kick back and relax on the front porch. It is a pleasant place to enjoy your morning coffee or just take a break during the day.

Our living quarters are separated from the guest areas. We enjoy hearing about the travels and adventures of our guests, but if it is a quiet get-away you are looking for, we are respectful of your privacy. We are happy to do what we can to assist you in making the most of your time in this beautiful area. Don't hesitate to let us know if you have questions.

Eagle River is a small lakeside town. Taking a walk to the beach with your morning coffee is a beautiful start to the day. Eagles can oftentimes be seen scouting for their next meal near the mouth of the river. The town has three bridges, the historic Pratt Pony Bridge, over 100 years old, is just out your front door, and provides a spectacular view up the river gorge and down to the mouth at Lake Superior. The Eagle River Falls is just a very short walk up the street, across from the Township Hall (which houses the Eagle River Museum on the 2nd Floor.) Lake Superior is magnificent, and forever changing--offering up everything from soft and serene sunsets, to wildly crashing waves. There is more than enough to see and do here in Keweenaw County to pack an itinerary full of adventure and sight-seeing. But, if you'd prefer, you can just kick back, relax...and simply enjoy being here.

There is no public transportation. Parking is available without charge. The nearest airport is the Houghton County Airport (CMX), located between Hancock and Calumet. Eagle River is located in the heart of Keweenaw County, approximately 30 miles north of Houghton (Michigan Tech and Mt. Ripley), and 20 miles south of Copper Harbor (the northernmost end of US 41.)

Owners will be available for check-in and check-out. Lake Superior brings a wide range of temperatures to the peninsula, even in the summer. You will want to bring a variety of clothing. Summer temperatures can range from the 50's to the 90's. Checking the weather in advance will provide some guidance. Depending on your cellphone provider, when traveling north of Eagle River in the peninsula you may find that service near Copper Harbor is limited. We have wi fi at the house that you will be able to access.

Parking is available in front of the house. Only registered guests are permitted access to the property. Non-smoking. No pets. During the summer months, the fresh lake air provides an ideal situation for sleeping with windows open, so please be considerate with noise in the early morning and late evening hours. When you are in for the night, please lock the front door. During the summer months, please latch the screen door as well. (Latching the screen door will keep it from slamming if it gets windy during the night.) Oh.....and have fun. : )

My husband and I have lived in our 1860's home for 20 years. We had considered operating a guest house for years, but thought that we would wait until we were: retired, petless, emptynesters, and had completed the restoration of our 1860's home. We are one of those---emptynesters. We have a St. Bernard, Leo....a "non-drooler," as they say, and his 18 year-old cat friend---Hazel. We were initially concerned that it might be a challenge to do this (while having Leo.) Not for us so much, but possibly for our guests. But then, something happened. We hosted a couple of mushers for a local sled dog race, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We made a few modifications to "Grandview" to provide more privacy for guests, and now here we are, inspired to begin this new adventure. We like the philosophy of Airbnb and look forward to participating as both hosts and guests. We look forward to sharing our knowledge and love of the area, and welcome any questions you may have.
