I am happy to interact with guests as much or as little as you wish. Your privacy will be respected. I will often join you for coffee over breakfast and am happy to help you with any travel or activity plans while you are here. I may join you in the lounge or outside in the evenings. I'm always up for a chat if you would like. One of the great things about B&B accommodation is that it gives you a chance to get to know both your host and other guests if you want--or you can have your own space if you prefer.
Accommodation prices listed are for one person. An additional tariff of $35 per person (adult or child) is charged per night where the room is shared (to a maximum of 3 people). If you are travelling with a baby or small child under two years of age you are welcome to contact me regarding charges. Meals will generally be shared with other guests. Breakfast is included in the daily tariff. Guests have the option of a continental style breakfast and/or a cooked breakfast. Muesli or other cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast or home made bread with a selection of jams and preserves, fruit juice, tea and coffee form the basis of breakfast. If you need to leave early in the morning, a packed breakfast option may be available (muffins, fruit, juice). I'm happy to talk with you about your particular needs, including any special dietary requirements (will accommodate these where possible; notice may be required). Other meals can be provided by arrangement, at an extra cost. You might like a picnic lunch to take away with you for the day; have some soup and home made bread; a special afternoon tea; a platter or nibbles for early evening; or perhaps dinner. I love to cook and will happily work with you around this.
I do have a cat that you might occasionally see around the property. He's not very sociable and doesn't go near the guest rooms--he does like the sun and the fire though, so you might find him lounging around.
--No smoking in any of the rooms in the house or shared outdoor space. You may smoke in other parts of the garden and ashtrays are available.
--Please be respectful of your fellow guests and hosts. Please be mindful of noise levels particularly early in the morning or if you are coming in later at night.
--Sorry no pets

I was born in the Orkney Islands off the north of Scotland and chose the name Taigh Na Mara for the Bed and Breakfast in acknowledgement of my Scottish heritage (it means "House by the Sea"). I have lived most of my life (when not travelling or living overseas) in Auckland and moved to live in the Coromandel in February 2015. Kuaotunu is an area I am very familiar with, my parents having lived here for nearly 30 years. My great passions in life are travel and cooking. I have travelled extensively, taking in cooking courses whenever the opportunity presented itself and I am really excited to now be able to share this with others, in a corner of the world that I feel is hard to beat. Gardening and kayaking are other keen interests and Taigh Na Mara also allows me to indulge in these activities. I'm a social worker by profession and have worked particularly in the fields of health, and loss and grief. I am also a trained massage therapist, and celebrant and am happy to provide massage therapy for guests if relaxation is what you are after. I would love to welcome you to Taigh Na Mara and share what this very special part of the world has to offer.
