We have worked hard to update our downstairs apt. The bathroom & kitchen are completely new. The kitchen is fully furnished with all you need to cook a meal. The neighborhood is very family friendly. We can also provide kids dishes, table/chairs,crib,stroller for your use.
When you arrive, you will find a welcome basket of coffee, tea, fruit and bread.
Also provided: salt & pepper, oil/vinegar, a few spices and a few other amenities for the kitchen.
If needed, there is one parking available off street parking place.

You will have access to a shared (with us) garden and utility room.

Chris and I live upstairs. We are a "young" older retired couple, well traveled. And while we enjoy meeting people from all parts of the world,we also respect your privacy. We are available for any assistance or info you might need because we live upstairs.

Our place is just a short walk to both the Temescal & Rockridge areas. Both neighborhoods are great places to visit, eat, drink, shop, or just walk. The main streets of these 2 areas (Telegraph Ave in Temescal and College Ave in Rockridge) are located in residential areas with architecturally interesting homes that range from small craftsman houses to larger homes, most built between 1906 and 1920ties, and a few from the 1880ties. Walk thru the tree lined streets and enjoy the many little gardens. Rockridge commercial area is a bit more upscale than the more hipster Temescal area, but both equally enjoyable.

Rockridge: From many vintage and collectible shops to comic books and motorcycles... it is all in the Rockridge, a wonderful shopping district stretching along almost 14 blocks of College Avenue. You will find 5 great bakeries, gourmet food shops, 5 art and photo galleries, a number of shops catering to children and one for just sleepwear. Along with so many unique shops and services, Rockridge can boast of 40+ eateries and a number of great coffee places. Some of my favorites are Rockridge Diner, Market Hall, The Noodle Theory, Bittersweet - A Chocolate Cafe, Cole Coffee (great sidewalk cafe), La Farine (One of the few French-inspired bakeries that actually looks & tastes like a real French boulangerie), Pegasus Books (new and used), Barclay's Pub (food, darts, beer, sports, what more could you want!)

Temescal: Temescal is experiencing a revival of fortune. The main business corridor of Telegraph Avenue is bustling with shops and restaurants whose owners found an affordable neighborhood in which to hang their shingles.
From the south, Oakland's Koreatown spills into this neighborhood, while the northern edge has several restaurants catering to the Eritrean diaspora that has rooted itself in the East Bay. Many ethnic groups are represented here in food and shopping. Long-time residents mix it up with first-time home buyers and the overflow of employees from the nearby Children's Hospital. All of these communities come together to foment the activity the Temescal has today. Some of my favorite places are the Tara's organic Ice Cream (exotic flavors), Doughnut Dolly's (best light doughnut ever! Filled with the cream of your choice), Bakesale Betty's (fried chicken with slaw sandwich, yikes!), Burma Super Star, Pizzaiola, The Avenue (local bar with friendly patrons), and our all time favorite place for a drink & to watch sports is the Kingfish which was recently moved 1 block (the whole building!) to its new location on Telegraph due to reopen soon.

Telegraph Ave: From our house it is a straight shot north (1.8mi) up Telegraph to University of Calif. Berkeley (nice walk thru tree filled campus, great entertainment at Zellerbach hall). The colorful blocks just before you get to the University are filled with eclectic shops and street vendors (and street people).

In addition to easy walking to the above areas, we are 1/2 block from major bus lines on Telegraph Ave, 10 min walk from BART (our above and below ground "subway" accessing many parts of the bay including San Francisco (20 min ride), and we are 2 minutes via car to the freeway.

We also have a a Portuguese water dog, very friendly, hypo-allergenic, who you will see in the back yard sometimes.

I am a retired nurse (30 years in public health), and my husband, Chris, is retired from the restaurant business. We are an "older" couple with young hearts. We have a Portuguese Water Dog (as of 10/28/16) who is hypo allergenic, friendly and will sometimes be in the back yard. We are both very active, and have kept ourselves fit. I paddle on a competitive Dragonboat team (want to come paddle?), and my husband is a big tennis player (up for a game?). We spend a lot of time with our grandchildren, lots of soccer, baseball and softball games! We enjoy dancing, and entertaining our friends, cooking cuisines from the countries we have visited . We love to travel; Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, Mexico , Canada, US. I have also been to Vietnam, Turkey, Bhutan, Bankok, parts of Africa,Central and South America . In Europe we have enjoyed staying in Airbnb places as well as pension type of lodgings. We love walking around and getting to know the areas we visit. Life is what you make of it every moment, and it really IS about the journey.

I speak some Spanish, though am certainly not fluent. Pero, si habla despacio, puedo entender algos.
