This charming and quietly independent house is surrounded by an enchanting 800- square- meter fruit and flower garden. Though the beach is only 3 km away, the house is an ideal getaway retreat because it nestles in a silent and private farming community.
It is comprised of a large living room area containing a fireplace as well as an open-plan kitchen, three bedrooms, including a master suite and two smaller rooms for 140cm-sized beds, and two bathrooms with showers. In all, it comfortably houses six adults and affords smaller sleeping place for two children. All the windows come with mosquito mesh frames . Each room is painted in different and exquisite colours: baby blue, yellow, orange, wisteria. The tasteful and comfortable décor has been selected by its owners, who use the house as a weekend retreat in winter. A covered veranda has a table for lazy outdoor lunches and dinners, and settees for relaxation while a portable barbecue allows outdoor grilling. Ample parking space is available.
The colorful and lush garden is shrouded by fig, apricot and cherry trees and a large herb and vegetable garden is carefully tended by its owner according to organically-minded criteria to fit in with the harmonious surroundings of sweetly perfumed Mediterranean shrubs and herbs.
Three villages (Capalbio Scalo, Borgo Carige, Pescia Romana, renowned for its flower market ) just a few km away from the house allow for easy shopping trips to supermarkets and other supply shops and services. A car is needed to reach these locations.
Just a few more km away is Lake Burano, located within a WWF shelter for fauna and flora. Visitors have access to an uncontaminated beach area which has service centers for lunches and snacks. Capalbio beach is protected by sand dunes covered by colorful and perfumed Mediterranean shrubs. The beach and surrounding sea water are singled out yearly as one of the cleanest in Italy by environmentalist organizations.
A 10 km drive takes you to the medieval village of Capalbio, renowned for its architectural beauty as well as for its cultural events and gastronomical delights. The park of Tarocchi, created by the inventive French –American sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle is nearby and well worth a sight-seeing trip.
The house is strategically located to allow visitors to fully explore the Maremma area, one of the most fascinating in Tuscany. The lagoon of Orbetello, some 20 km away, is famous as a shelter for migrating birds, and is not to be missed during a stay here. Orbetello has several well-known restaurants and cinemas.
Mount Argentario distances some 30 km and exploring its picturesque coves and inlets is indeed worthwhile a trip. From the Argentario you can take ferry boats to the splendid islands of Giglio and Giannutri, famous for their crystal-clear waters and spectacular for those interested in snorkeling and scuba diving relaxation. The islands are a paradise for myriad bird species .
For art and archeology lovers, the legendary Etruscan sites of Tarquinia and Vulci are only a 30 km drive south as are the fable-like ancient villages carved in tufa stone of Sovana, Pitigliano and Sorano).
The huge park of Maremma , with the Mounts of Uccellina as a backdrop, are filled with remains of Etruscan, ancient Roman and Medieval buildings . Nature lovers will be delighted to ramble through foot paths while those looking for a relaxing day have a long and sandy beach available.
The glamorous spa area of Saturnia, open all year, is a 50-km drive from the house while Mount Amiata, which is only 40 km away, is a nature lovers’ delight.
For those who do not fancy driving to Rome for a day-long shopping or sight-seeing trip, it is possible to get there by train from Capalbio scalo. The ride takes you to the heart of Rome, in just an hour-and-a-half.
