Où se situe le logement

Juzet-de-Luchon, Midi-Pyrénées, France

Juzet de Luchon is a traditional Pyreneen milling community founded on the 30 metre waterfall that sits at the head of the village. While flour is no longer milled at the waterfall and the remains of the original 18th-century mills and waterwheel are now ruins, the waterfall remains a draw for people hungry to see the sheer force of the water falling from 30 metres above and its stunning setting. The village is nestled into the mountainside and is the start of some challenging walking and biking terrain - road cycling and mountain biking. It's a great base for exploring all the mountain sports and activities on offer in neighbouring Bagneres de Luchon - winter, spring, summer and autumn. While spring has a lot of rainfall, the summer and autumn months offer continuous weeks of blistering hot days and brilliant sunshine. With the winter snap comes 12 weeks of snow fun up at Superbagneres Ski Resort - with the added benefit of sun-kissed days. Bagneres de Luchon is just 2 miles away and has a wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets as well as Europe's only natural underground hammam. The Spa is nationally renowned for its healing properties and as a centre for excellence. People have been coming to Luchon for nearly 300 years from all over France and beyond for the therapeutic powers of its spa water and the talented health practitioners and doctors who have set up around them.

Hi. I'm mother-of-two girls, a skier, a runner and a yogi. Professionally, I am a public affairs specialist: which means that I help organisations to achieve their goals by getting to the bottom of other people want to achieve and working out where the mutual interests lie. I am constantly intrigued by people, the worlds we create around us and how we make sense of it all. I live for the hilarity irony and slapstick bring to my to life. Laughter is the most important of all emotions: It heals us. My husband and I bought our mountain retreat in 2006 on a romantic whim. We stumbled across Luchon during our honeymoon road trip the previous year, returned and bought a small spot in the valley. Formerly an 18th century thatch and stone house, during the 1930s the house was transformed into a spacious, three-storey home by a resistance fighter who helped Jews and servicemen escape to Spain via the high mountain passes. Louisou didn't escape capture but he did survive the war. He never spoke of his wartime experience. He worked as a plasterer and lived a simple and modest mountain life surrounded by family and friends. By all accounts, he and his wife, Madeleine, were two of the kindest people you could wish to meet. By 2006, the entire house needed a top-to-bottom renovation. We spent the next 8 years camping out in the house in its rudimentary condition during our family holidays. Then, in 2014 James and I took our two girls off on the gap year we never had and embarked on the year-long renovation project turning the house into what you see today. James transformed the house, while I worked remotely. The girls were thrown head-first into a tiny French school. This house has a good vibe. It's a place for friendships to flourish and for memories to be created. A lot of love has gone into making the house comfortable and welcoming. We hope you enjoy the house, the village and the location as much as we do. And as much as Louisou and Madeleine did before us.
