Our private one bedroom suite connected to our main home is the perfect getaway spot to experience the real beauty of Oahu. Enjoy your own private outdoor bathroom and deck. Located on the North East Shore, escape the noise of Honolulu and enjoy the quiet, empty and serene beaches and hikes nearby, 45 min. from the airport. A great place to retreat into the countryside, relax and see "real" Hawaii. We like to grow our own food with our family of three and live as self sustainable as possible.
Our space is perfect for the adventurous one's who like to escape the crowds. We are located in the country side of the island, where the mountains are tall, powerful, and green, and the beaches are quiet and empty. Enjoy the freedom of walking only footsteps to a beautiful white sandy beach, where you will likely be the only ones there. Perfect for everyday swimming and snorkeling. For the surfers, there are outer reefs that can get very good with the right swell and conditions only walking distance away. Make sure to ask Ryan where the best surf is!
Enjoy resting on our brand new Sealy Posturepedic California King Bed. With comfy cotton sheets, you will rest easy and hard. With two ceiling fans, insulation, and an amazing trade wind cross breeze, you will stay cool and comfortable anytime of day. It can be hotter and humid during our tsunami season but there are beautiful beaches and streams to cool off in.
Step out the back door to your large deck, where you will find a breathtaking view of the riverfront property. Relax in a hammock, enjoy lunch, or BBQ dinner on the New Weber Gas Grill. We have a little outdoor kitchen nook, you will be easily able to prepare your own meals. We provide:
-Plates and utensils
-Mini fridge with freezer
-Pots, pans, kitchen utensils
-Brita water filter to help reduce use of plastic bottles. Drinking water on our island is actually pretty awesome and fluoride free.
-We provide extra blankets and under bed storage.
We do not provide extra amenities but there is a Longs Drug Store and Tamuras Market nearby.
Enjoy bathing in our outdoor bathroom, that has plenty of privacy and space. Outdoor bathroom includes:
-Wide shower head
-Sink and mirror
-Clean bath towels and wash cloths
Our home is on an estuary and originally used as a Hawaiian fishing pond. Being on the water is so peaceful, whether looking down at the fish or just watching the water from the deck or room. Its not a place for swimming but thats why we love having the ocean so close to our home for a quick dip or some fun beach time.
We have an edible landscape in the front and back of the house.
We do live in the country and in the country there are bugs. If you are faint to bugs or do not like bugs this is not the place for you. We like our guests to enjoy the space and want to make sure they love our space. Especially since the shower is outdoors. There are also chickens and animals nearby since we do live in the country. I am used to the chicken noise but some guests are also but some guests are not.

Since your suite is connected to our house you will have your own private entrance from the front of the house, you can come in and out freely without disturbing us at all. Enjoy your privacy of the deck and your private outdoor bathroom. Feel free to hang out in the front or back grassy areas. Our main house and large shed are off limits. We do not rent our equipment out as well. Please text or call first before knocking on the front door. We really enjoy our personal space when we are home. We love to talk to guests when we are outside or upon passing.
We will never come into your space without asking first.
Check in is self check in so please make sure to read your itinerary. It is important to read itinerary for directions to our home, and how to get into the room. We are rarely home since we both work full time jobs and have our daughters after school activities.
We do provide internet. Its fastest inside the room on the bed. The internet does not work well on the deck. If you are planning on working in the room on your computer it might be best to go to a coffee shop or somewhere with strong signal. We like our guests to be able to disconnect from all that stuff anyways. Phone signal is also spotty where we are located.
We love to work in the garden! We have a edible landscape we are slowly building. We love to try to be as sustainable as possible. We cook most of our meals from home and are try to only eat produce that is from our garden local or from the organic farms on the island. We like to water the garden early in the morning but I am usually very quiet and respectful about guests privacy and noise. Our house runs on solar but we still try to conserve energy as much as possible since we do pay by kilowattes. Along with water we try to conserve just to be courteous to the environment. Always shut off lights and outdoor light when not using them. The lights attract bugs anyways.
We also try to only use bio-degradable and environmentally safe cleaning products. I wash the linens with organic detergents and softeners. I even make some of the household cleaning products myself to avoid harsh chemicals that can be in cleaning products.
All the water we use eventually goes straight into the ocean so we try to be very careful about what we put down the drain.
We love having people with good positive energy. People with open minds who love to stay in places that are out of the ordinary like ours. One great bit of traveling advice is arrive to your destination with no expectations and just let things happen as they come.
Support our local businesses. We love our community and supporting one another.
There is no television in the room. We like our guests to be able to disconnect and enjoy the peace and quiet of the space. We have some playing cards and light reading in the room.
Hawaii in general has lots of chickens everywhere. Since our home is in the country you will hear the sound of chickens. I love the sound and I am used to it but if you are a light sleeper just a fair warning. It sure does beat the noisy ambulance sounds of Waikiki or a busy town. Even to say there are even chickens in Waikiki so there is no escaping them. Embrace the chicken.
Please remember this is a family home, not a hotel. Even though we live on the property we enjoy our personal space. It is always best to text or email first before knocking on our main door. Do not call or text between 8am-9pm unless its an emergency. Please take trash to trash cans out front to keep pests away. Please be mindful and have an open mind.
We don't mind BBQ's and small gatherings, but please no loud or late night partying. We enjoy and respect the peaceful and quiet neighborhood we live in.
Turn off air conditioner when not in the room or when not home. There is a cross breeze when its windy and air conditioner is not always needed.
We love the beach, but we like the sand to stay at the beach and not our home. There is a hose in the front of the house and the back of the house for your use. Make sure to wash all sand off before entering room and showering. We have a septic system and does not do well with sand inside.
Drive very slow (5MPH) when driving down our street to respect our neighbors and possible kids in the street.
Leave room as you found it, if you move the furniture around just make sure to put things back in place.
We have three cats who who are not allowed into the room. They are trained to never go in the Rental Suite, so please don't invite them in. Sometimes their muddy paws make a mess and future guests may have allergies. If they are bothering you, let us know or just spray them with water.
Must park inside gate driveway parking space and keep gate closed at all times.
Absolutely no smoking.
ALWAYS COMMUNICATE and concerns or needs with us.
Extra guests after 2 people (unless it is an infant, 1 year or less) will be charged $25 per guest
Neighborhood quiet hours are 9:00 pm.
All prices include local taxes, which provides a significant savings for guests. The owners will pay the following taxes on guests' behalf to the state: 9.25% Hawaii Transient Accommodations Tax, 4% Hawaii General Excise Tax, and a .5% Oahu surcharge. This totals 13.75%. Guests should take notice of this value savings and look out for these taxes being tacked on when comparing other Hawaii accommodations. These taxes are paid regularly on HAWAII TAX I. Additionally, on top of local taxes, the owners are subject to regular state and federal income taxes.
This is our home, so we will most likely be there during the resting hours. However, we are quiet and pretty unnoticeable when we are home. We like to give our guests privacy if they like it but also like to chat if the time arises. We also enjoy our personal space. We are busy teaching Stand Up Paddle, Surfing Lessons and health consultations during the day, or working in the office at home so you will mostly see us in the mornings or evenings. Our daughter is sometimes running around outside after she is off school unless we take her surfing, skate boarding or other extra curricular activities. She is very sweet and loves the guests. We are not always home to welcome guests upon arrival since we are always on the go and have a very out of the normal work schedule. We always leave a note, text or directions on access to room. I am always a text or phone call away. If we do not get back to you right away (we are probably in the water adventuring or out in the mountains hiking) please leave a text or voicemail so I can help you as soon as possible. Text and call hours are 8am-9pm unless its an emergency. Please ask us about taking a lesson or adventure tour with us!
My husband and I are both young, active, and healthy minded people. We own a customized Adventure, Health and Retreat company called Mahina Hawaii. So during the day we are usually taking people out on surf, hiking, stand up paddle adventures and also provide knowledge of plants animals and taking care of the 'Aina(land). We enjoy surfing when the waves are up, paddling when its flat, hiking in the mountains, and cooking healthy delicious foods. We are huge on supporting local, so we try to shop mostly at farms and farmers markets, fish for our own dinner, and keep our money here on this island.
I am a yoga teacher and personal trainer, and mostly teach private sessions, stand up paddle yoga or retreat groups. I love to spend as much time with my daughter when she is not in school. I love surfing, reading and learning new things. I work in the garden a lot growing food and medicinal herbs for our family. We love and appreciate each and everyday! Everyday is a beautiful day, rain or shine!
Ryan is a certified Nutritional Health Coach, and puts on food challenges for the community, educating people how to incorporate healthier foods and lifestyle habits into your daily life. He is a huge ocean lover, surfing, paddling, and fishing as much as he can. He gives Adventure Tours of all kinds, from surfing, paddle boarding, hiking, and outer island backpacking adventures.
We have a 6 year old daughter Hailee Mahina. When she is not at school she loves surfing, skating, soccer and gymnastics. You can even check out some of her surf and skate videos she has. She loves playing in the garden and playing with her friends outside.
We have hosted travelers on Airbnb for about four years, and have had the most amazing experiences. We met so many different people, and feel we have friends all around the world now.
