Cedar House is located in a quiet country setting, truly perfect for feeling like you "got away" and yet a short drive to all the great sights and experiences of Glen Arbor, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leelanau and Mission Peninsulas, and more. Our stay could not have been lovelier and Mark and Patti could not have been better hosts. The house is immaculate, super comfortable and inviting, the kitchen well appointed, and the deck is a wonderful spot for relaxing. The house easily accommodates six, and with bedrooms with queen beds both up and down, was perfect for my husband, myself, our daughter and son-in-law. A very private space, and yet Mark seemed to magically appear whenever we had a question or were looking for input on local attractions. A perfect visit!

This was our second stay with Patti and Mark in Cedar, and once again we felt we'd found our home-away-from-home in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. The roomy gourmet kitchen makes cooking such a pleasure that we didn't eat at a restaurant once (and I love to eat out). The two-story apartment is immaculately clean and charmingly decorated, with big windows overlooking a wooded lot. It's like staying in a tree house! We ate almost every meal on the the large deck. Mark and Patti thoughtfully provide everything you need, including plenty of towels, a fully stocked kitchen and a gas grill on the deck. Just bring your clothes and a hair dryer and you're good to go. The property is centrally located between Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park so it's easy to get to all the local attractions. We love to hike, but we also enjoyed the little resort towns of Leland and Glen Arbor for shopping, morning coffee and enormous post-sunset ice cream cones. Patti and Mark were the perfect hosts: always available and friendly, but never intrusive. When the screen door to the deck developed a squeak, Mark was up there with a can of WD40 before we even had a chance to ask. Their well-behaved cairn terrier Pippi greets you by asking you to throw her ragged pink tennis ball. We hope to be back again next year! Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Mark and Patti were outstanding hosts. It is obvious that they take great care of the property. Everything was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well stocked. They even had a baby gate and a high chair that attached to the table, as well as crayons and games for the children. They were so welcoming to us, and the kids really enjoyed throwing the ball for their very friendly dog. The location is quiet and has easy access to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Suttons Bay, Traverse City, etc. Overall we had a wonderful stay here and we would look forward to staying here again with them on our next "up north" trip.

I grew up in northern lower Michigan. I lived in Colorado in my younger adult life. There I taught skiing and learned to become a woodworker. I return to Michigan settling in Traverse City area where I resided for 35 years raising two boys and having a woodworking business. Having bought the Cedar house in 2006 my wife and I plan on this being our home. With the down turn in the economy hitting Michigan especially hard in 2008 my wife and I look for employment elsewhere. We ended up in Salt Lake City.
The economic downturn plummeted real estate values. We had already done some major remodeling of the house and would had to taken a lose to sell. We enjoyed the local of the property and wanted to keep the home. We did feel we could rent it as a yearly rental and keep the property from getting to used. So to help offset the cost we joined the Airbnb Community.
Patti had been a school teacher but due to some health issue retired. Patti and I partner with a friend/business associate doing camper van rentals out of Salt Lake City. Southern Utah is an amazing place to explore.
I enjoy the outdoors and camping. I especially enjoy desert camping in southern Utah and Sea Kayak camping around Lake Superior in Canada.
Skiing is my true passion. When I can I am out in the mountains skiing the backcountry or ski areas.
I do a lot of cooking although I wouldn't consider myself a great cook. I had even thought about offering a cooking service/bed and breakfast at the Cedar House.
I am a believer in the idea that what you think about is what you get.
Life is about having fun which isn't necessarily about vacations, partying or doing only what you want, even though I wouldn't mind skiing a 100 days a year and paddling the Great Lakes much of the summer. For me, it's about living each day with appreciation and joy.
When I can I have a yoga type routine I do along with some quite time to get my day going.
