What a lovely stay at Nick's cabin! The home is beautifully decorated- fabulous taste- the best deign we have found yet. Tasteful, stylish and stunning- totally comfortable and a gorgeous view from the terrace! There was an excellent selection of books to peruse while relaxing on the comfy chairs overlooking the spectacular vista. There was some loud road noise during the day, but being from Brooklyn, my husband and I found it rather comforting, and it was quite at night. Nick was a great host- check in was very easy. We had a wonderful stay, and were so happy to be at this beautiful cabin. The location was perfect, just a 10 minute drive into Catskill's Main Street, where there are some great restaurants, the perfect Catskill Country Store( with the best homemade bagels we've ever had) for groceries...and cafe Hi LO with a fabulous breakfast and killer coffee. Also, we adored the handful of new shops on Maine street, like marvelously hip Village Common, where you can get hand created candles and scents, and beautifully restored and reupholstered vintage furniture at Corduroy.
This cabin is either fantastic...or not...depending on how you plan on using it. If you intend on using it as a central base and only plan on eating and sleeping there, it's fantastic. The cabin is well stocked, very comfortable, has an excellent shower, and is well located to hiking and nearby exploration. And as others have said, I found Nick to be an excellent host. However...if you plan on spending much time in the cabin itself and just relaxing and enjoying nature, I suggest you think again. The major Achilles Heel of this cabin is the road noise...and I'm from Brooklyn. The road noise is not at all a problem for sleeping -- it is not that bad. But you will never forget if you're just lounging around that there is a road nearby with a constant buzzing of vehicles. In other words, you'll have a hard time convincing yourself that you're communing with nature. So, think about how you plan on using the cabin and judge it accordingly.
This is a great place to stay - especially for the value! Nick was a wonderful host and responded to all questions within minutes. He was easy to communicate with and had all the information we needed. As other reviewers have said, the house is an easy 20 minute drive from Hudson and great hikes like Kaaterskill Falls (which we recommend!). Overall, super cute in a great location with beautiful canopy views. One note - We stayed in the summer - it was hot while we were there- and the house was a bit uncomfortable at night.
The cabin is adorable with lots of beautiful natural light. The fully stocked kitchen is great for making a couple meals. Unfortunately, the noise from the road below is far too loud to really enjoy sitting out on the wrap-around deck. Hearing trucks and buses took away the serene feel I was hoping for with this trip.
I'm an art director and I live in New York most of the year, and the Catskill house is my getaway, perched up in the trees, where I find rest and relaxation.
