À propos de ce logement

Picture yourselves at Happy Hound Cottage 20 feet from my vineyard, in perfect privacy with a stunning view of Sugarloaf Mountain. Clean, contemporary space with fireplace, sliding doors to patio & vineyard. Walk to 14 wineries, bike to State park. Relaxing, fun, beautiful, sweet, romantic and memorable.

Le logement

Happy Hound Cottage is named for my dog, Tahoe—who will happily greet you on arrival. (My big cat, Chortle will likely say good night and/or good morning). HHC is in the heart of Sonoma County wine country (Kenwood), midway between the town of Sonoma and the city of Santa Rosa. Our central location is convenient for local excursions as well as day trips inland and to the coast.

NOTE: Happy Hound Cottage is mostly closed until April for some remodeling (outdoor kitchen!)

Fun
I belong to several Sonoma Valley wine clubs and would be happy to extend guest passes to you. In addition to the many, many wineries and tasting rooms in Sonoma Valley, there are at least 12 within a short walking distance of HHC. Also, I can recommend many restaurants, markets, shopping opportunities and recreational activities.

Cottage
HHC is situated at the northeast portion of our two-acre property and is essentially surrounded by vineyards. It is a newly constructed, contemporary and quiet, detached studio cottage—completely out of sight from my house and all surrounding homes. It has a gas fireplace for warmth and ambiance and a ceiling fan for comfort during the hotter weather.

HHC has an under counter refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave. The HDTV and DVD are viewable from anywhere in the cottage, as well as upgraded Wi-Fi service. Both the sleeping and seating areas look through an expansive sliding glass door, onto a private patio, my Merlot vineyard (steps away) and Sugarloaf Mountain (prominently in view). There is a gas-to-charcoal Weber grill just off the patio.

Enjoy the complimentary “welcome" wine for your first night.

Property
The two-acre property includes a one acre (Merlot) vineyard, my house, a detached garage and HHC. A gazebo is nestled in the front garden with views to Hood Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain (please enjoy!). There is a “you cannot miss it" heritage Valley Oak in our front yard and a majestic Walnut tree at the back edge of the vineyard.

Raised-beds, organic vegetable and flower gardens are within limited eye shot of the cottage patio (please feel free to wander over and look). Enjoy a stroll through the vineyard, especially fun during bud break in spring, and color change (veraison) and ripening in summer and harvest in fall. Your stroll can continue through surrounding vineyards and through one of the largest Lavender farms in the county.

Sorry, but absolutely no smoking on the property. Thank you in advance for understanding.

My Special Sommelier
Do you want a Sommelier and Certified Wine Specialist to take you to boutique wineries, typically “off the beaten track?" My friend is available for a private tour of up to four wineries. The tour will be individualized to meet your taste and preferences and sense of adventure. (Fee negotiable but around $75/hour plus gas reimbursement).

Ready to Go
HHC was completed in July 2012 and is busy hosting guests! As your host, I'll be sure to help you feel comfortable during your visit and to free refreshed and re-energized when it's time to return home.

See You Soon!

Note: Happy Hound Vineyard Cottage is fully compliant with all laws and regulations and I am current with all required reports and payments. The TOT certificate number is: 1054N

This was our third visit to Happy Hound and it did not disappoint. Carolyn is a fabulous host and we were fortunate to meet her. Her cottage is five star in a picturesque setting amidst vineyards with Sugarloaf Mountain in the background. It is the perfect wine country vacation. Looking forward to our return trip!

HHC is a wonderful idyll! A lovely 20 minute drive from Sonoma, which has lots of small, independent shops, cafes and restaurants, plus a wonderful Whole Foods store, HHC is right opposite Landmark winery (great pinot and chardonnay) and has lots of other excellent wineries within walking/short driving distance. We spent four comfortable nights at HHC, and were able to cook in without difficulty (HHC has a five ring range). The bed, the sofa and chair are all very comfortable, so we slept and sat well. Fortune also favoured us and we enjoyed four days of warm/hot sunshine, which we thoroughly enjoyed while sitting on the private patio with a glass of wine. Carolyn was also a great host, who responded quickly to our queries and offered helpful suggestions when asked. Would we go back - anytime!!

Loved the view of the vines in the morning! Comfortable and plenty of room for two in the home with gas logs to keep you warm. The location was ideal for exploring Kenwood, Sonoma (15 min away), Yountville (25 min away), and Napa (30 min away). Definitely stop at Cafe Citti, just half a mile away, during your stay. Excellent Italian food at a great price. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Happy Hound Cottage!!

This is a terrific location. Quiet, scenic, and you don't have to go more than a few miles for good restaurants and so many choices for wine tasting. We hope to return.

Carolyn was great and her cottage, vineyard, and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to meet Carolyn but she went out of her way to make our stay a special and memorable one. My fiance and I got engaged on this trip and Carolyn was so kind to leave us a bottle of champagne knowing that I was proposing earlier that day! Again, this property was absolutely amazing and we had an incredible time staying here. We will definitely return again and hopefully soon!

I love the beauty, scale and easy pace of Sonoma Valley and the lovely small town feel and sophisticated amenities of Kenwood.

Happy Hound Cottage is named for my sweet lab/terrier mix, Tahoe, who passed away this year.

I was born and raised in Southern California near Pasadena. I have degrees in Theology and Environmental Psychology and work at MIG, Inc. (planning, design and communications) as a Principal and Chief Operating Officer. While I commute from Berkeley on a near regular basis, I find it well worth the trip, enjoying the beauty of the valley and views of horses, cows, sheep, chickens, oak groves and vineyards. I love each season: winter with its striking dark barks and green hills; spring as the grape buds break; summer when the vines are so vital; and fall as the landscape turns so colorful and—of course—harvest!

I enjoy fresh, local food and sharing good wine. I love visiting with my warm and kind friends, walking the vineyard and tending to the gardens (vegetables and flowers). I also enjoy sharing our love of Sonoma Valley with others.

I belong to several wine clubs and would be happy to extend guest passes to you, as well as provide suggestions to the many other Valley wineries, tasting rooms, restaurants, markets, shopping opportunities and recreational activities.

I'll be sure to help make your stay at HHC one you'll want to experience over and over. Cheers!
